Manny is the one that deserves it. Yeah, he's only been in the NL since August but so what. Aren't these the games that matter most. The games from April to July may technically count the same as the
games down the stretch but you know the ones down the stretch carry more weight. Is a home run in the first inning to make the score 1-0 as important as a home run in the 8th inning to make it 1-0? Absolutely not! What the heck did Howard do in April to July that was so great anyways? Bat .220 and strand a bunch of runners? I'm sure Manny could have done that. Put Manny in the Philly lineup and he'd probably have 70 RBI's since August with the way he's hit. He has carried that LA offense. Even when LA was in a huge losing streak Manny was doing his part. I don't care how poorly Arizona has played because without Manny the Dodgers would not be in the playoffs.
MANNY FOR NL MVP!!!

I will take anyone's action who thinks Manny will take the MVP.
Of course he will not win it because nobody will get off the he didn't play the whole season in the NL thing. He should win it because he clearly is the most valuable player to his team. We all know he would have easily destroyed Howard and Delgado's numbers from April to July. The guy is batting over .400 in the NL while Howard and Delgado aren't even close to .300!!! Can Philly win without Howard? YES, their lineup is insanely good. If anything Howard held them back early in the year but I guess he's rewarded for that since he was in the league. Chase Utley was the player most responsible for their early success if youa sk me. Can the Mets win without Delgado? Do you even have to think about that? Obviously yes. I wouldn't even vote him MVP of the Mets. Who would you rather have at the plate with the bases loaded, two outs, and down one run in the bottom of the 9th? You all know you'd want Manny out of those three. The other two would strike out half the time. Manny should win the award but Howard probably will just because he was in the league from April to July and played like crap.

I am a die hard Phillies fan, and even though Ryan Howard is going on his annual September tear, I really think the award has to go to Pujols, no one is even close to as valuable to there team as Pujols has been and they were in the discussion for the playoffs till about a week and a half ago...the numbers dont lie, IMO it has to be Pujols.... u guys are also forgetting that Howard won MVP 2 years ago, while the Phills were watching the playoffs from home....

I dont think you get the point that MVP goes for the ENTIRE regular season, not the last 2 months... and as for what Howard did from April to July, he just led the majors in RBIS and HRS, from a week before the all star break on, so I guess that has to count for something! Also, what did Manny do from April to July than try to platoon the season for the Red Sox and not give 100% for the time being there, so he wasnt striking out but he was detriminating a team ... and if Manny was in the Phillies lineup, Howard would probably be putting up better numbers because he would no longer have Pat Burrell batting behind him and he would see better pitches...

What happens in the second half of the season outweighs what happened in the first half of the year.....But even if you go for the whole season Howards numbers are better than the others....If Howard keeps hitting the ball like he is and the Phills make the playoffs the MVP is in the bag...

Couldn't agree more with everything you said. Seems like you and me are the only ones on Pujols . I bet pujols at 3-1 to win and howard at 6-1. Don't see how it doesnt go to one of them.

Howard only led in RBI because of who he plays for. He has MVP type players batting right in front of him with Rollins and Utley. He may have slumping Burrell behind him but with Rollins and Utley always getting on base pitchers still have to pitch to him. He only batted .234 at the break. Stick him on any other team and he wouldn't be in the top 10 for RBI. He even leads MLB in strike outs. How many rallies has he clogged up with those strike outs? You put Howard on LA and he'd never get anything to hit and when he did he'd probably strike out! You put Manny on Philly and who knows how many RBI he'd get. It would be pretty scary considering Howard is batting .249 and leads while Manny has hit over .400 with LA.
Your guy will win the MVP just because he played the whole season in the NL but Manny is the most valuable player to his team and league from what I've seen. Even if you combine Manny's Boston numbers with LA numbers he's batting .330, which would lead the AL and be 3rd in the NL, and slugging .594 which would lead the AL and be 2nd in the NL. The hitting stats are so overwhelmingly in
favor of Manny that I just don't see how any argument for Howard can be
made but I know Howard will win the MVP simply because he had the opportunity to bat .239 through July. Way to go Howard. I'm guessing only about 75% or so of the entire league had a higher batting average than you at that point but you deserve MVP because of it. Howard winning MVP seems about as fair as Ohio State getting into a BCS Championship Game. You know the wrong selection is going to be made but what can you do? At least this doesn't matter nearly as much.

Mike you make some very valid points but the question is who WILL win the mvp. Not who we THINK should win. The question was posed for betting purposes on the award. It is true that if you stick Manny on the Phillies and Howard on the Dodgers it's clear that manny is a better player. Ultimately though we want to find out who WILL win, for wagering purposes of course.

For anyone who is still interested, sportsbook.com just put new odds up. They are Pujols +150 and Howard +150. I already bet it when howard was +600 and Pujols was +300, but I just added more to my Pujols bet. From what I hear on espn, it shouldn't be even close and Pujols should run away with the award. Just thought I'd share with you guys.

It's got to be Pujols or Howard........heard Gammons say on Espn last night that the vote is going to be pretty much unanimous for Pujols (I would assume he talks to enough voters to know)
