I always knew it, then I forget, and then I am reminded just how
many people break the Golden Rule of sports betting. I look at all these posts during, then after, games played and I am amazed at
how many comments I see like “____ is a gas can”, “I hate ______”, “_______ is a worthless piece of @#%#”, and
it becomes obvious that there is an awful lot of people playing with money they
can’t afford to part with. I learned the
lesson many years ago that doing that is
the only guarantee in this game… Guaranteed to lose it. Let me clarify the Golden Rule: If someone plays with money they cannot
afford to lose, they are guaranteed to lose it.
It doesn’t matter if they take part on next month’s rent,
bet it, and win the bet, they will still lose it. Doesn’t matter if they win a few bets with it
and rebuild their bankroll and retain the rent, disaster is lurking around the
corner, and disaster will hit, this time, next time, and every time.
The issue is that even if this degenerate goes on the win
streak of his life for a month, he is going to bet bigger and bigger until a
few losses gets him so tangled up emotionally that he lets it all ride simply
so he can get back to where he was.
You’ll know these types when you see them, they are the ones jumping for joy when they win a bet, they are screaming at the TV when they lose. On Covers they will follow someone winning them money and compliment them, and thank them non stop, but then instantly turn around and attack that person if they start to lose. It is a huge emotional roller coaster every day for these guys. They hate every player on a team that lost them money just like they are overwhelmingly complementary to the team that won them money. Another commonality of these types is that they are absolute geniuses at finding losing plays to the point that the world’s greatest handicapper could not win as much on his plays on own as he could if he simply faded this degenerate during his chase. This guy needs the loss as much as he needs the win becomes more exhilarating in contrast.
Personally, my average day puts about 3-6% of my bankroll at
risk, and I keep in reserve the ability to completely restock my bankroll 5
times, and I don’t stress for one moment about any game, day, week, or
month. I don’t like stress, and refuse
to infuse it into my life in any way, so I am in awe at the people I see on
here that are either elated, or infuriated every single day.
So, let me repeat the
Golden Rule of sports betting …
If someone plays with money they cannot afford to lose, they
are guaranteed to lose it.
