Wow, you just can't bite off a big enough chunk, can you? Careful puppy, you're going to choke. The opening line is not a figment of someone's imagination. It maybe starts somewhere near true probability, then is adjusted for probable public response. Penalties to the favorite usually include home field, public popularity, regional preference, trends (which the public loves), streaks and a few other factors. After that only ONE thing moves the line and that is MONEY. The books have respect for MONEY, not any of the generally accepted public myths or power rankings or any other such thing. If you think they throw a number out there to attract $10 bettors because they know the other side will win, then you have little experience, none of good, and choose to believe books want to gamble against you. Long story short; there are millions of very serious dollars lurking out there that can't wait to punch a bad number. It is a risk no businessman would take, and bookmaking is a business for them, not a part time recreational activity like it is for you.
absolutely wrong. the line is set by pinnacle alone. they do that by floating a line to the biggest gamblers in the world who help shape the initial line and have superior information and numerical techniques. Rational is that its ok to lose a million to them and win 10 million off the squares.
Pinnacle then anticipates the publics betting patterns by running algos on betting trends of the small betters (those $10 guys make up 90% of the take) then they float a line that optimizes the expected return based on taking a position assuming the public has no knowledge of the true probability. most don't.
all other bookies then just copy pinnacles opening line and aggressively profile members who are winners and minimize their ability to get liquidity down. There is no bookie that puts their line out before pinny because they would get slaughtered on middles.
THAT is how it really works and if you dont believe me go watch bob voulgaris say the same thing on youtube against the cantor fitz guy.
Bottom line. the book takes the position that maximizes their expected return, its truly no different then wall street now.

At the risk of repeating myself, Wow. Of course the line is floated and bet into by big bettors, but the number that is floated is NOT anyone's guesswork. It is carefully developed even before the heavy hitters see it. You claim yourself to have been a "Vegas Insider", some sort of sneaky thief designing programs to bilk the public. Are we now to believe Vegas operates on advice and lines from Pinnacle? You are rapidly exposing yourself.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

Its more of a society problem I think.....Somehow the smaller groups have louder mouths and spew more garbage than the majority. I would like to believe there are still more good people out there than the minority of the bad. They come in all sizes shapes genders races and denominations really. Your bettor (pun intended) than me haha. I am at point it sickens me...not only the forum but political parties ,government and you name it. Dont get me wrong a lot of good goes unnoticed . Sorry to say that the few are ruining the many. Which is the whole reason I felt compelled to say anything in the first place......People are real brave behind Usernames all over...I have had some battles on sports websites that I sought out and met and they were a lot nicer in person and nothing bad to say at all.... Being 6'7 and 285 wasnt as easy for them to throw sh.. at standing in front of them like they did on computer........Then for real mouthy ones who were following high school football that spewed sh.. I gave them a chance to backup their words with Benjamins.......For those that did I never failed to collect a bet....Easy money since my son played on Undefeated State Championship team and I stood at the gate to get in so they could find me.....Little too John Wayne style for society these days I know. I just hate seeing innocent people victimized, idiots vandalizing things, and idiots trash talking running mouths when they cannot back up words....Enough about my shortcomings man.....SFO it is for me tonight after I looked at the stats and your post. Makes good sense to me. I live the motto ...If you have no class...you need someone to kick your a..
Thanks raider, I have been through this so so so much working in the industry that I now have thicker skin then a rhino. I never knew bettors were so hostile and angry! I will continue to drop down great information and be a happy guy. feel free to connect!
