Always enjoy your posts. Going for the throat meaning pitch your best pitchers and rest no one who doesn’t need it is what your saying right? Mental state of going for the throat is no different than mental state of must win. Meaningless outside of pregame talks the night before the game. good win last evening and I don’t post much but enjoy seeing you win
Going for the throat is much different. The must win situation is desperation play versus an opponent that has been dominating you. Going for the throat is kicking the guy in the gonads and slicing his throat while he is down. One is desperation, the other is killer instinct.
Now, if you attempt to save Cole for Sunday it has to be that you are back in that desperation "must win" situation. Is that where you want to be?
Saying you do that, where does Cole wind up in the World Series? If you give him his normal 4 days rest again, that puts him on Sunday, and you may get ONLY ONE WORLD SERIES START out of him.
Too much of the opinion on this is coming from people with no "elimination tournament" background r experience. I have a ton of it, in baseball by the way. No offense taken, and none intended.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

I think you're right in what you're saying but the Astros looked like they were in a much better mental state than the Yanks last night and that was basically a must win for NY at home. The Yankees don't look confident right now, they were having problems everywhere last night. Pitching wins in the post season and Verlander is one of the best. Hard to see the Astros lose tonight.

That's a good distinction between the two. Some players can and do turn that desperation into that killer instinct tho but that was nowhere to be found last night. Astros look like they're going to end it by multiple runs tonight.

I think they end it tonight but the line will probably remain too high to have real value. If they do, the Verlander-Cole setup could be reversed, Cole-Verlander, and give us Scherzer-Cole game one and Strasburg-Verlander game two. Wouldn't that be a kick? Then maybe Greinke- Sanchez first game in Washington. This could be a really great World Series.

Now there's an idea. Didn't I do tat about 10 years ago when the Royals were a bad team and a dog every time out? That was the year they couldn't lose to a lefty and went like 25-10 against lefty starters. We cashed a ton on that one little edge. They were beating Sabathia, Lee, Wells, all the top gun lefties and we cried every time they faced righties for more than three or four days.

Thanks key. I see what you mean. Very different than fball which is what I played at high level. Desperation is everything in that game especially in the week long prep which is where the focus is different anyway when desperate.
Good luck the rest of the way!

What kind of experience do you have? You been posting on these forums for over 10 years. When was the last season you posted a winning season? I been on this forum a long time even a bit longer than you. I remember everytime i saw that dollar sign avatar of yours i thought... you have got to be one of the most consistent losers on the forum. There is 1 poster long time here who is much worst than you. But at least he doesnt act arrogant like a know it all. His record is horrible every season.
Every season whether you post mlb or nfl, you have a losing record every single year. Does someone who has a clue lose almost every season when he post in mlb or nfl for over 10 seasons? I honestly don't remember you having one winning season in any sport since posting.
