easy under yesterday afternoon, kazmir made us sweat a bit in the first, then the mariners offense quickly returned to form.
last week, i liked seattle in all 3 games vs the a's at near pick'em prices, we figure to get them cheaper in this series.
at first glance, one might think oakland would be a tough matchup for snell . . . head case pitcher, loses command on a dime, facing the ultra patient billy beane disciples . . . not so fast, oakland lines up quite nciely with the mariners when it comes to metrics for measuring plate pateince, usually in the bottom 3rd among all MLB teams.
the mariners pen is somewhat rested, the good part of the pen has only thrown 59 pitches in the last 5 games . . . so one should feel good if snell can get a lead into the 6th inning. snell, of course, is a tough proposition to back, unless you are getting rewarded with a cheap price, and i do believe that is the case today. wak and adair have been given credit for the success of the mariners pitching staff this season, so it's not a horrible stretch to think they've had a positive influence on snell. and they still bring good defense to the field every night.
tomko has been effective as a starter in his 3 starts for oakland, and he was stretched out to 100 pitches in his last outing.
this series smells like a push . . . even bad teams win games, and good teams never play to a winning level every day. i can easily see the mariners winning 2 games in this series, and i'd expect the mariners to be under dogs in all four games.
the final two games of the angels series provided more evidence that wak will keep this group focused, they will lose, and they will be over matched and lose, but they will also win games at a comparable rate to what they've done all season long.

i will play this series progressively as well and w/king felix i agree i can expect to not get too leveraged.
