Strange but interesting stat and question...

Question

At .297/.841, Detroit has the highest BA/OPS in MLB for games played on Thursdays. What I'm wondering is, why would a broke-dikk team like the Tigers maintain such a high level offense on a certain day of the week?

How much would you give consideration to a 14 game trend like this when capping tonight's match up with KC? (I was thinking about betting KC until seeing this.) Surely it can't be totally coincidental this late in the season, right? Just wondering what other folks think about this.

This is indeed a strange trend, but a more in depth look is needed, to see if there really is a correlation or just a coincidence. Fe: how many of those games are series openers/last game of a series, day/nights games, home/away games. If the numbers, are about the same across all those splits, i guess you can say there is a strong correlation, between Tigers playing on Thursday and those numbers.

It could be that they&#x27;re facing a disproportionate number of 5th starters on those days.

16 games on thursday and 8 of them were series opener

the thing is that they don&#x27;t have a winning record on thursdays even if their BA is high, what you should be looking at is Royals who have the 3rd worst record on series opener at only 34%, which is auto fade Royals for me.
