Could not agree more. Saw Pete many times in 3 Rivers against the Pirates when he played for Cincy & Philly. When the Pirates were a honest MLB team. Pete was the guy you did not like but wish he played for your team. Was a awesome gritty tough hard as nails ballplayer. 90% of the players in the last 30 years couldn't hold his jock strap.

I watched a video Pete posted on YouTube from just last month speaking about addiction to gambling and how he regretted it so much. He spoke about players now committing all sorts of crimes and they come back in the league in a year or two. This man paid his punishment for decades, he deserved to be in the HOF before his death. If the MLB lets the juicers in, it will be a damn shame. I will never look at the MLB the same.

Over 20 years here on Covers the subject of Pete Rose has been debated many times. My take on this has not changed.
Even if Rose always bet on his team and never against them there still remains a huge problem. What if he decides to bring his closer into the game early, say the 7th or 8th inning, to pitch three innings and win a game he wagered on? The closer is burnt for the next two games. That doesn’t hurt his team? That doesn’t hurt the game of baseball?
As mentioned earlier there are signs in every clubhouse warning players not to bet on baseball. Sorry Pete but you blatantly violated the rules. Nobody is above the rules. Nobody. Even if the rules are hypocritical and a joke to the game.
RIP Pete Rose.

How is it hypocrisy? Players still can't bet ?? NFL suspending players every year for gambling. He should have beat his wife instead. He would have gotten in. But can't gamble.

Has nothing to do with Pete Rose gambling on baseball.
Or him lying and trolling the game for basically the rest of his life.

Steroid era 1987-2002 or so. 15 years. Everyone was on them. How many juicers are in the hall? 25? 50? Alot more than most think.
1960,s almost all players on methamphetamines. Bowls of pills for all to take 3 hours before game time. How many in the hall?
Pete was made an example of. Should he be in I do not know.

It was well known Pete Rose was making bets with the bullpen phone! Pete Rose was a POS, had he not lied forever about it and been a man and owned up to his mistakes, things would have been different. He was one of the best players no matter what anyone says, but he deserves everything he has gotten.

If the FBI said he had no involvement, I am going to believe them. The translator is going to prison. He is not going to prison for Ohtani. If it was all true, kick him out of the game.

Everyone was juicing back then, even my JUCO college teammates. The long ball is what baseball back from the Strike. Brandy Anderson hit 50 HR’s for Christ sake. They never even tested MLB players for juice. Once they passed a test in the minors; they could never be tested again. Whose fault is that?
Bonds was the best hitter I have ever seen with my own two eyes.

The truth is Rose was a massive POS im sorry to say. He absolutely disgraced the integrity of the game on a truly unprecedented level.
I had no problem with them refusing him entry to the HOF. Barry Bonds, on the other hand, that is a travesty.

Yeah but it's okay for politicians to create legislation that impacts the value of stock they own.
“Recent investigations have found that 1 in 7 members violated the STOCK Act in the 117th Congress, 97 members traded stocks in companies impacted by their committee assignments from 2019 to 2021, and members outperformed the S&P 500 by 17.5% in 2022.Jul 10, 2024

I think the No Gambling in sports (by players/participants) has a deep rooted history, which I believe ultimately led to Pete Rose not being part of the Hall. A great book to read to understand this history is the Jack Molinas story - A book titled The Wizard of Odds by Charley Rosen . This is about college basketball and fixing games back in the 40's/50's. I beleive this story set the stage for Senator Bill Bradley to get the bill PASPA passed and barred sports betting until several years ago. A great read and gives the understanding of why gambling is the big taboo when it comes to sports and betting.

Never forgot the game where he managed his bullpen in a midseason game as if it was game 7 of the World Series . He won that one burnt out his pen and cashed his bet most likely. They went on to lose the next day due to no arms available in the pen. He compromised his team and the integrity of the game . As great as he was on the field unfortunately his gambling addiction got the best of him. He paid the ultimate price. May he now rest in peace .
