I'm not making friends with Philly fans for this one. After the series...fine...but during...HELL NO. Yankees will win this series easier than people think.
Bullpen is a big advantage for the Yankees. I know that was said for the Dodgers(by me included) but the Phillies bullpen wasn't great. They were just less bad than the Dodgers pen. I'm not buying into Lidge' resurgence. Why should I? No lineup he has faced is like the Yankees'. Park? Bastardo? Durbin? Eyre? They may have pitched well against NL lineups...but just like Lidge...come on now...Park? Seriously? If your relying on him in big spots...just bow out of the World Series and give the Yankees the Championship. Madson is good...but thats all I believe in. Happ as well I guess. The Yankees have Joba, Hughes and Mo. Thats basically all they need. But they also have Robertson who apparently is clutch now. Not sure what he can do against the Phillies but he looks clueless out there yet gets the job done. Gaudin won't be used. Aceves has been garbage, I see him pitching better though. I have faith in him bouncing back after that awful outing in Game 3. Coke sucks and Marte sucks...but coming in against a lefty in a late game situation...you never know. Pitchers are better against NL teams...it's a proven fact.
The 3 man rotation the Yankees have is better than the Phillies' bullpen. Sabathia v Lee is really close. Too close to pick to be honest. I won't choose CC just because I think the Yankees win because Lee is really that good. Burnett v Hamels? Funny one. Hamels has been a joke. He's the pitcher that should be in the bullpen right now...not Happ. Burnett would get the edge there simply because Hamels blows lately. Keyword...LATELY. Pettitte v Pedro. Oh wow...who couldn't wait for this matchup? Well...Pedro doesn't go so far into games anymore and the Yankees have been patient. Working pitchers in the postseason and if they do that...everything will be fine. And when was the last time he played an American League lineup? Sabathia v Blanton? Another laugher. Blanton is not meant for the American League. Plain and simple. Even though he'll be playing against the Yankees without a DH, it won't matter. He's been consistant but no chance.
Lineups are close. I'll give it to them. But the Yankees' are better. A-Rod is better than Howard. Whoever says different is really fooling themselves. Yes...Howard is on fucking fire...but A-Rod is fucking blazing right now. Jeter is better than J.Roll...another thing where your kidding yourself if you say differently. Playoff track record says it all. Victorino v Damon. I say Victorino by a bit. Damon edges him in power but Victorino just slaps Damon across the face in speed and defense. Utley beats out Tex for now...but when Tex is on, if he gets on, makes this race about even between the 2. But nobody on the field anywhere beats Tex in defense. Ibanez v Posada. Ibanez isn't hitting well at all right now. Posada's mind isn't in the game defensively but is the better player this postseason. Werth v Cano. Cano gets the edge in average but Werth gets the edge in power and probably clutch hitting because Cano can't hit in the clutch. Melky v Ruiz. Ruiz has been on fire but Melky has been doing great too. I say about even...lets keep it at that. Swisher v Feliz. Both are playing like shit. Swisher has a great eye though...not sure about Feliz. So I'll leave it as a tie.
The Bench advantage goes to the Yankees as well. Gardner, Guzman and Hairston are threats on the basepath late in the game. Who wouldn't want that speed? Cervelli can come in as a guy to bunt a runner over if needed in an NL park. The Phillies have Stairs and Dobbs. Both a good pinch hitters. They also have Francisco who comes in for defense late in the game. Bruntlett is there for late inning base running I guess. I don't even know why Cairo is there.
Oh...and don't worry about the Angels...the Yankees are not going to have a similar outcome as 2004. The Yankees will finish this one off soon enough and the Yanks will face the defending "Champs".

Stop looking at teams on paper alone. Of course the Yanks look better on paper than anyone, look at the other paper - their payroll.
The Phillies just flat out know how to win, and are clutch. There is no way the Yanks are winning this series in less than 6 games. The Yanks were a Brad Lidge blown save from being swept in the Bronx by the Phils this yr. Not that that matters now, just sayin...

The Phillies flat out know how to win? The Phillies are clutch? What about the Yankees? They have the most walkoff wins and come from behind wins in baseball.
The Phillies beat the Yanks this season when A-Rod was hitting .200 and Posada was not in the lineup. Brett Tomko, Jose Veras and Wang relieved 2 in those games. Everything about the Yankees are better now than in May. The Yankees picked up their game after the all-star break.

Who are the defending champs? Where's the respect!
Phillies are the best team in baseball and so far this postseason they have proved it. They will be ready for the Yanks and in face I see the Phillies winning in FIVE GAMES, YES FIVE GAMES! Yankees will be welcomed to a rude awakening..you heard it here first!@

How you go about comparing 2 teams line ups without going position by position is beyond me.... You cannot compare a RF and 2nd basemen.
Howard vs. Tex: push (Howard hs an offensive edge, Tex defensive) Utley vs. Canoe: advantage Phils Jeter vs. Rollins: advantage Yanks Feliz vs. Arod: big advantage Yanks Ruiz vs. Posada: advantage yanks Werth vs. Swisher: advantage Phils Victorino vs. Melky: advantage Phils Ibanez vs. Damon: advantage Phils
Overall the lineups are very similar and equal. Defensively the Phillies have an edge.
Bullpen: Yankees have and edge because of MO. Starters: Yankees have the edge but not as big an edge as many think.
The Phillies have been there before and are a team that knows how to play in these circumstances. They have shown the ability to win and won last year. The Yankees look unstoppable but they have not been put in a situation where they are finally playing for all the marbles while being the prohibitive favorite. Pressure and expectations coudl cause the Yankees to fold.

I went by lineup order. However...I left out Matsui because he'll only be in games at Yankee Stadium. So that kinda faulters it a bit. But I understand where you are coming from. And like you said...the Yankees look unstoppable. The Yankees want it more. Some may strong disagree with that but it's the truth. They want the monkey off their back. As said before...they can be compared to the Lakers. All the pieces were finally there and they finally got the job done.

Don't jinx your Yanks, even if you don't bet the games, Sparky. ALCS isn't over yet. You don't want to jinx your team.
Lesson should be learned from 2004 when your mighty Yanks took commanding lead 3-0 but subsequently LOSE the series to Red Sox.
All it takes is a $5 bet on the Angels tomorrow and the ALCS is over.
And the Yanks won't lose this series. Even if they somehow happen to get to a Game 7, I trust CC against Weaver with his near 5 road ERA. No chance they have a similar outcome as 2004. Jeter won't let that happen.
And the American League OWNS the National League. It's been proven this season. Padilla, Smoltz, Penny, Betancourt, Contreras, Richard etc. Who else am I missing? And Ohlendorf is another name I remember who pitches better in the NL. And then of course CC last season. The streak will continue with the World Series not going past 5 games since 2004. And a National League team hasn't won back to back World Series' since 79-82. That shall continue as well.
