i've liked them since i first heard hybrid theory over 5 years ago, great album if you're into that type of music... a buddy of mine just burnt me a copy of their new album, he gets basically any album he wants 2-3 weeks before its released to the public... it's pretty good, a few songs that are typical LP but a few that are a lot more calm and slower... i guess i will have to wait and see if it grows on me...

I have the feeling that the new album is going to suck. LP is one of those bands that really has some kick ass songs, and the songs that aren't good are terrible. Very few in between. Thay've said it themselves that they changed this album up a bit, which usually spells bad. I've heard two songs, and one I don't like, and one that was pretty kick ass in spots, so I think I'm going to let someone else take the plunge and I'll listen to it a few times before I decide.
Pretty good live though, I've seen them two or three times. Good energy

Saw them on SNL last night...liked the first song, hated their 2nd one. From what I've heard, this album is supposed to completely abandon their old rap/metal sound, which makes me think it's going to sound like any generic rock album from the past 5 years...I hope I'm wrong...

Their new shit is terrible. They really went box on this CD, they lost all their edge and most of their original fans with this garbage. When they first came out they were geared towards the rock/rap/metal scene. Now they are touring with My Chemical Romance, give me a fucking break. I want to punch Chester in his little whiney box face. They are not musically talented at all, they are just good songmakers/writers. I can teach a 7 year old retard any of their guitar licks.

Anyone putting down Linkin Park's CD oughta have their head checked. It's better than Hybrid Theory & has some tremondous potential
As for that second song they performed on SNL - although I wasnt too in to it when I heard it there - when I heard that song on the CD....I fell in love - love that tune

Well, I've listened to it a couple of times. I'd give it a C- at best, and it would have been a D until I heard the last song. Tracks 2 and 3 are good, so is 12, and the rest in between are nothing special, and repetitive. In fact, the best part of the whole album is the break at 2:00 in on track 2 that lasts about 30 seconds.
This record and the media image tells me they are trying way too hard to make everyone happy. They tried to make sure that they hit just about every genre, and have a song or two that appeals to every type of fan, rather than focusing on the back-and-forth vocals and mix of rap/rock that has made them popular.
Where is Mike Shinoda on this album? I have only listened to it twice, and I think I noticed he was maybe singing in three songs. They'll probably regret that when he's sitting on stage with his thumb in his ass.
I think they listened too much to the record labels on this one. It's a shame too, because I REALLY wanted this album to kick ass. Disappointing because Hybrid Theory was probably in the top 5 of albums in the last 10 years.

I agree with you on #2 because that sounds like the Linkin Park I want to hear and why I liked them originally(though it's just Chester singing), but #4 is just average. It's just disappointing to me when bands don't stick with what works. I agree with experimenting a bit with a couple tracks or something, but to change the sound totally over a whole album when no one was asking for them to change - I figured everyone would have learned from Metallica's mistake.
I thought hybrid theory put them above most any band out there because it was simply a sound you couldn't get anywhere else - not even close. . . Meteora had that quality too, even though you could tell it was a little over done. Sounds too watered down now, and Shinoda doesn't have NEAR the presence on this album as the last two.
But, like you said. . . different strokes. . . but I'd be willing to bet that after a few months, this will be an album that most people forget about.

lets get real here folks.. link park has good songs but its too "pop" for their genre. When LP first hit the scene, I thought they were the shit... but that's when I was younger. Now, I just realize that they're just great entertainers, I would hardly classified them as musicians. LIke someone said, they have a couple of great songs and the rest is garbage <--- this is the very definition of pop. Some people treat them like they're Radioheads.. ppleeeasssee...
Nevertheless, the few good songs that they do manufacture have very nice beat and melody ...but let's face it.. it just a bunch of guys doing pop masqueraded as rock/rap. When 12 years girls think this is "great" music... that's when you know its not great music.

i feel that everyone has such high expectations for LP because hybrid theory was such a huge success, and meteora was a good follow up album... to put out an album like hybrid theory that was completely different at its time and being so good puts them on a pedestal where everything they put out from now on is immediately critiqued as being "not as good as their old stuff" or "not sounding like their old stuff"... you gotta realize this guys, musically, musicians change... u can't just keep making the same old record over and over again because then people eventually get tired of that 1 sound that they have... the rock / metal / alternative scene has changed greatly over the last 7 years so bands that LP might get their influence from has led them to sounding a little bit different... they also have grown as individuals where certain songs might reflect their views on different things that they've been through since their last album... anyway, that's just my opinion on them as of now, i still like the new album, some of the songs that i mentioned above did hit me right away and i liked them instantly but i will let the other ones grow on me...

Talk about the worst band ever. I can't even waste any more time in this thread, Im feeling nauseous.

I've seen shades of red in a sunset, but Linkin Park is teenie bopping garabge these days. IMO they were better when they were first coming out, they had more of an edge.
