It must be the 3D, because I saw it and while it was nice to watch, it wasn't a "great" movie by any stretch. It is basically a rip-off of Dance with Wolves and a couple others.

And if you have advanced technology to do the Avatar thing, why do you still use machine guns, hand gernades and helicopter things with propellers? Gimme a break. With advanced technology like they would have, they could have just vaporized the Navi. The there was the skids full of explosives. Right, the only way to blow up that place was to drop skids full of boxes of explosives. So stupid.

And how many times have we seen the scene where a guy is trying to fend off a pack of dogs or wolves. Or run from some monster-chomper who keeps missing your feet by inches for the entire chase scene.

Then there is the GI Joe Jerk character in the Rock-em Sock-em Transformer robot get-up. Cheap, noisy action crap.

Empire Strikes Back with Yoda was much better. 2001 was a better movie and it was made decades ago.

Okay, let the flaming begin.

I know. I need to see it in 3D. I will, and I'm sure the visuals will be stunning but I'm not looking forward to sitting through all that other crap again.

If you liked the Matrix, you will love Avatar.

I used to be able to quote pretty much any part of the original Matrix film, I still remember a lot of the lines.

All I needed was 2-3 years break, a new improved viewing technology, a 3 week waiting list at the only true IMAX cinema in town to see Avatar *two months after its release*... and I was ready for another 'some time in the next 200 years' tale.

It's very possible I wouldn't be as impressed with the film had I been to 3D movies more frequently. But if you don't go more than once or twice a year... be prepared to be blown away. I literally gasped when the first panoramic view of Pandora - a sea of green - appeared on screen.

I can understand how this movie would seem subpar viewed in 2D. And I can only sympathize with anyone whose first impression of Avatar was that it's garbage. I loved it. Cameron is a genius, and so are the geeks who created CG.

Stop comparing today's movies to those from the past.

The Beatles are the Beatles and no other band will trump anything that precedes a certain era of history.

10 years from now, there will be no such thing as an original idea for a movie. 10 years from now, every movie made will be relegated as a copy-cat because its noticeably similar to a scene or plot or subplot from movies made decades ago.

Oasis might have been a Beatles knock-off. So what? Just enjoy what that band have to offer in their part of musical history.

I think Avatar is a classic in its own right, in its own time on the big-screen lineage.

Just got back from seeing this in 3D/IMAX.

I must say I was blown away. 2.5 hours went by exceptionally fast. The movie keeps you involved and the 3D with those graphics and sounds really made this movie.

Even I was touched by a 10 ft blue woman by the end.

I think I would of tagged her ass

 

5 stars from me ... but what the hell do I know.

....

 

PS .. I was not liking $29 for me and my girl to see this in 3D/IMAX add the $18 for popcorn pretzels and a drink. Ending total $50 .. wtf has this world come to.... geez.

 

Oh well at least I enjoyed the movie.

I was told by a lot of people to only see it in IMAX/3D.

I am glad I did. The movie was not that great but seeing it in IMAX/3D made it well worthwhile. It was incredible to see the graphics and technology used in the movie.

it was definitely something to experience. There really is no way to describe it without going to see it for yourself.

I heard Toy Story is going to be coming out in IMAX/3D... That should be cool.

Just finished watching this movie after burning a copy about 3 weeks ago. ....I was in no hurry to watch it figuring it might just be a lot of hype.

Even though it was not in 3D  I thought it was the most entertaining movie that I've seen in a long time. I have no idea why Hurt Locker beat this out.....Except for a couple of 5 min. scenes it sucked IMO.

I want to watch it again but I'll wait till it comes out on video to see it in 3D.

If you are afraid of spending almost 3 hours watching a great movie....watch a couple of crappy 90 min. ones like THE BOX or BOUNTY HUNTER......Or maybe Acadamy Award winner ......

  THE HURT LOCKER.

Definitely one of the worst things I've ever seen (although I've never liked anything "sci-fi")

what would another Avatar be about they already saved the rain forrest, it took 15 years to do this when the tech has only been out for the last 3 i still don't get what so great about it
