will agree. when I saw it was nominated for a best picture academy award, I was sceptical too BUT I thought the acting was excellent AND was a pretty fast paced story. excellent acting
those who liked this movie will probably also enjoy the 1999 made for TV movie Pirates of Silicon Valley >>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirates_of_Silicon_Valley

The Laughing Policeman (1973)
was one STARZ action late last night. because there had been some discussion of early Walter Matthau drama movies like Fail Safe, Charlie Varrick and The Taking of Pelham One Two Three a couple months ago in the Forum, and was recommended by a couple people, I decided to record it.
turned out to be a completely convoluted mess. story line was all over the place and they never really "put it together" at the end. definately NOT one of Matthau's better movies.

Crank: High Voltage (2009)
NOT the first time seeing it BUT Jason Statham as Chev Chelios is ALWAYS great fun.
only thing is, Bai Ling as the asian hooker Ria HAS to win the award as the SKANKIEST person EVER in a movie. (inset "barf" emoticon)

watched Ship of Fools (1965) last night on TCM. GREAT acting by everyone involved but esp by Heinz Ruhmann as the person Lowenthal, Michael Dunn as the dwarf Glocken, Jose Ferrer as the nazi Rieber and Lee Marvin as the boorish American Bill Tenny.
I would say it's one of the "must see" movies from the 1960's

side note to Social Network....
Summers was the actual President of Harvard that these two rich privileged yuppy-puppy WASP's went whining to as depicted in the movie.
Summers: "One of the things you learn as a college president is that if an undergraduate is wearing a tie and jacket on Thursday afternoon at three o'clock, there are two possibilities. One is that they're looking for a job and have an interview; the other is that they are an a**hole. This was the latter case."

Despicable Me (2010)
thought it was a fun movie with some pretty funny scenes like at the beginning where the villian Gru comes upon the crying kid who's ice cream has fallen off the cone. Gru acts like he's going to cheer him up by making him a balloon dog. the kid loves it BUT them Gru pops it with a pin.
also anyone who has ever been ripped off by a carnival game operator has to just love Gru disintegrating the clown (AND the game booth) after Agnes is cheated out of winning her stuffed unicorn.
and is it just me or does Gru's rival Vector remind one of Bill Gates? also the sign Bank of Evil (formerly Lehman Brothers) is a great sight gag.

Everything Is Illuminated (2005)
the premise of the story is pretty dark and depressing BUT the sight gags and one liners in the the movie, esp the first third, are LMAO funny. that interaction between Jonathan, the American person tourist, (Elijah Wood), Alex, his Ukranian tour guide (Eugene Hutz) and Alex's grandfather, the tour driver (Boris Leskin) makes the movie worth watching.

Boy OH!!! I have to AGREE!!! started out interesting enough BUT was SO convoluted it was impossable to follow. I think it will go down in film history as "George Clooney's Gigli"
DID have Violante Placido as Clooney's prostitute-girlfriend "au natural" though and she's HOT
