Thor (2011). usually NOT a big fan of "comic book hero" based movies BUT enjoyed this one because it was VERY "Wagnerian" in both characters and plot. definately had elements of the Great Richards "Ring Cycle" in the story. thought it had excellent special effects too.
watched two "English History" based movies Anonymous and To Kill a King last night. IF you like the series "The Tudors", I think you would like these. posted a basic plot summary thread on both >>> https://www.covers.com/postingforum/post01/showmessage.aspx?spt=84&sub=101378808

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011). watched last night and it was a completely convoluted mess with an actress that's a 12 on a the 1 to 10 "skank-o-meter" playing the title roll. a complete waste of 2 1/2 hours. I would say it's the mystery equivalent to the recent SciFi movie Prometheus. an over hyped, under performing piece of trash.
The Thing (2011). decent remake of the John Carpenter 1982 classic which itself was a remake of the 1951 The Thing from Another World. ending scenes in the spaceship had somewhat of an Alien element to it.

Yeah ad1260, it is the sequel but you don't need to watch the first to understand the second. I thought it was pretty good.

watched Fair Game on Showtime's "Showcase" channel about the "outing" of CIA operative Valerie Plame by the White House to try and discredit here husband Joe Wilson who blew the whistle on George Bush's phony "yellowcake uranium from Africa" speech.
very well acted by Naomi Watts as Valerie Plame and Sean Penn as he husband as Joe Wilson. first half of the movie has nothing to do with the "outing" controversy and is more a "cloak & dagger" spy story of Plame's various CIA operations esp her trying to get the Iraqi nuclear scientists out of Iraq. I was somewhat suprised waht a good pure "spy story" it was. I would say
it's on the Showtime "Showcase" channel again Tuesday July 17th @ 9 am pacific time IF you want to DVR it. runs just over 1 hour 40 minutes.

'Jeff, who lives at home'
If I had paid $30 bucks to take the ol lady to the theatre to see this I would have been all like "mehhh"
But I got it at the Redbox, so I'm all like "ehhhh"
