John Grisham's The Rainmaker (1997) GREAT "courtroom drama". VERY well acted by with Matt Damon, Danny DeVito, Mickey Rourke, Danny Glover, and Jon Voight. want to know where the REAL "death panels" in American health care are? watch this movie.
Galaxy Quest (1999) pretty funny send up of Star Trek fans and conventions. the premise is that a race of aliens, The Thermians, come to earth hoping to find a strong leader for their war against the tyrant who has destroyed their planet AND thinking that the TV series Galaxy Quest is REAL earth history, enlist the help of the series actors played by Tim Allen (the "Captain Kirk" type leader), Alan Rickman (the "Mr Spock" type alien "science officer"), Sigourney Weaver (the "Lt Uhura" type "comm officer"), Tony Shalhoub (the "Scotty" type engineer) and Daryl Mitchell (the "Wesley Crusher" type kid ships steersman). kind of childish BUT fun movie

Hard Times: Lost on Long Island (2012) on HBO. documentary that takes a hard look at former upper middle class professionals that are now long term unemployed. I took it as a "it can happen to you" warning.

Von Richthofen and Brown (1971). just happened to watch last night and IF your into WWI aviation history it's worth watching. excellent aerial combat scenes filmed before the age of CGI. basically it's a "stylized" biography of Der Graf Manfred von Richthofen.

Green Lantern (2011). more DC Comics teenage fantasy tripe. pretty good CGI and the character of Hector Hammond played by Peter Sarsgaard was somewhat interesting. they probably could have cut 20 minutes of the "mush" between Hal Jordan (The Green Lantern) and his "love interest" Carol Ferris without damaging the "plot'. was also thinking after seeing the credits that "WOW!!! Angela Bassett has sure AGED!!!".
typical "comic book hero" flick. OK IF your into that genre. ending obviously means a sequel or series coming in the future

finally watched the 2010 re-make of the John Wayne classic True Grit last night. NOT a big westerns fan BUT thought it was well acted by all involved and thought Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross was much better than Kim Darby in the original.

watched Dude, Where's My Car? (2000) last night and was VERY suprised just how "stupid funny" it was. I laughed my ass off throughout the movie. somewhat similar "what the hell happened last night?" plot to the recent Hangover movies.

Horrible Bosses (2011). started out VERY fast and VERY funny but kind of lagged in the middle before picking up the pace at the end. the three "bosses", played by Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell and Kevin Spacey were the most interesting characters in the movie. good "cameos" by Donald Sutherland early on and Bob Newhart at the end.
it's on the MAX movie channels again starting Wednesday July 25th thru Saturday July 30th. I would give it a

This is a movie based off of the true story of Ude Usain's body double. It was pretty entertaining. It is worth a watch. The real life documentary story would probably be a little more interesting, but this was not too bad.
Insidious-
I'm a pretty tough critic when it comes to this genre, but this was actually a good movie. It was like the Poltergeist a bit. It was made my Paranormal Activity creators, but don't let this throw you off. It was interesting and a good thriller. It is extremely hard to find movies like this today that are worth watching so check this one out. Good ending too. A pleasant surprise.

Alien and Aliens. Was prepping for Promethus(heard it is a prequel of sorts), and I haven't watched the Alien movies since I was a kid. My memories were Alien was slow and boring with a couple cool scenes and Aliens was the movie I watched 1,000 times when I was 10. 20 something years later(imo), ALIEN was the true masterpiece. Creepy as fuck and I loved every second of it. ALIENS was awesome in it's own way, but more as an action movie. Both were great and ahead of their time, but I would say ALIEN is a 9.5 and ALIENS is an 8.5.
Avengers. BORRRRRRR-IIIIING. Literally fell asleep a couple different times. Movie was two long 45 minute action scenes with a loose plot to link them together to call it a movie.

The Descendants with George Clooney....very solid movie IMO but a little bit of a chick flick but nothing raging like the Notebook or anything. I recommend it

watched The Other Guys (2010) last night. stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as two usually bungling NYC "desk cops" who fall into a billion dollar fraud case. was VERY funny and had some VERY fast paced action. Eva Mendes is VERY tasty as Ferrell's super hot wife. GREAT sight gags and one liners like "we found your Prius. it was in line to vote for Ralph Nader". it's on both the STARZ and Encore movie channels thru next Saturday August 4th. I give it a on a 1 to 3 scale
right after The Other Guys, Encore Edge had on the Irish movie The Guard ("Garda" in Gaelic) (2011) staring Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. thought it was VERY well acted by all involved esp Gleeson who is also known for his rolls as the gangster Ken in In Bruges, Hogwarts professor Mad-Eye Moody in the fourth, fifth and seventh Harry Potter films and Winston Churchill in Into the Storm. it's on the STARZ movie channel again Tuesday July 31st @ 8:50 am and 6:35 pm pacific time. I give it a

True..nah... I thought it was based on a true story too. Then I read on up it and it turned out to be pure fiction.. No one can confirm Uday had a double and the guy who says he was is a fraud.
Other than that - I did laugh a lot - Uday is like a Cohen/Borat character :D
