Hysteria (2011) pretty funny comedy-drama set in Victorian era of Britain which shows how the medical "treatment" of the once-common medical diagnosis of "female hysteria" led to the invention of the vibrator. LOT of funny scenes and characters in the movie and some great "one liners". found both the epilogue and end credits pretty interesting as they show the development of the vibrator thru the years. weird that "female hysteria" was STILL considered a medical condition as late as 1952.
think it's worth a view IF you like light English comedy. plays again on Starz channels Thursday 9-17 @ 8:15 am & 11:15 am, Saturday 9-21 @ 12:10 am, Tuesday 9-24 @ 11:50 pm and Wednesday 9-25 @ 2:50 am pacific times

Saw both Now You See Me and Star Trek Into Darkness (2nd time)
Enjoyed Now You See Me because I really didn't know what to expect from it. It was refreshingly different.
As for Star Trek Into Darkness....I saw it in the theater, watched it at home, and I'm convinced now that it's one of my favorite movies. I can't remember another movie over 2 hours that flies by like this does. It is purchase worthy. I wanted to watch it again after seeing it on the previews for World War Z, which btw as I mentioned in another thread, is an average story hidden beneath a big name lead. If you like your zombies fast, try 28 Days Later or 28 Weeks Later.

Saw Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Slayer and was very impressed. I never thought of watching this because the title is in horrible taste and expected a cheesy B movie but was anything but. Strong everything kept me entertained for the entire movie.

Never saw The Untouchables until recently. I was floored at how bad the acting was from everyone. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. After Connery dies there is no reason to watch. I felt like I was mugged after watching that shiit.

I will agree 100%. went into watching it VERY skeptical and came out "WOW!!! that was GREAT". excellent pretty much non-stop action and Benjamin Walker as a young Abraham Lincoln was EXCELLENT. IF they ever re-make the 1940 Raymond Massey classic Abe Lincoln in Illinois ("Best Actor Oscar nomination for Massey) or any other serious Lincoln biography movie, they should consider Walker for the roll. I usually HATE zombie and vampire movies and find them just plain stupid BUT really enjoyed this one

This movie is right on par with the first installment and The Conjuring. The producer has good plots and sets an eerie mood. They took one character and showed her 30 years ago. It was the best make-up or CGI I've seen for something like that. They made the woman look exactly the same but thirty years younger. She was kinda hot too. Great flick.
We are the Millers-
This was real raunchy. It had some good laughs and some nice Jenn Aniston scenes. It drags a bit at the end, but that is the case with almost every comedy. I'd say worth a watch.

watched Terry Gilliam directed1985 futuristic fantasy film Brazil and had NO idea what to make of it. was kind of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four meets Monty Python's Flying Circus meets the bureaucratic Vogon's from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with a touch of Lohengrin rescues Elsa without the Wagnerian "cat's tail pulling" music. Gilliam HAS directed some fun fantasy films like Time Bandits (1981) and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988) BUT this one was a waste of almost 2 1/2 hours. left me feeling like >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH5iOnQ6jn4

seen it at least a dozen times as have probably most Covers members BUT the revenge-courtroom drama Sleepers (1996) is on the Encore movie channel again Monday September 23rd @ 12:35 am pacific IF by chance someone hasn't seen it OR you want to record.
All Star cast with Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Joe Perrino, Kevin Bacon and Minnie Driver. the four boys that play the young Lorenzo, Michael, Tommy and John are excellent. maybe the most interesting characters in the movie are Vittorio Gassman as mob boss King Benny and Frank Medrano as bodega owner "Fat" Mancho. both have some of the best lines in the movie. a movie I can watch over and over again

Saw Argo and was very disappointed. Sure it's a good picture but was expecting so much more from a Best Picture. I think of classic type movie but this was anything but. Sure it's good but in no way a great movie.

even though everyone knew the outcome of the plot, I think it was one of the MOST suspenseful movies I have seen in years. went into watching it saying" OK, HOW did this beat Lincoln for Best Picture?" and came out saying "Ya, that WAS the Best Picture and Ben Affleck got SCREWED for NOT being nominated for Best Director". outstanding movie that I can watch numerous times

Gotta go with 165 yds. on this "ARGO" thing. Not in the great movie class by a mile. Some years everyone sees something different. It's good we don't like the same things. I have Zero Dark Thirty ready to watch and Lincoln is coming up so maybe I'll find a "great" movie out of last years offerings but "Pi" was average way below my standards and that movie with the cute black girl in poverty with the dying father was close to "B" status. " Southern Beast whatever" Geez, that movie made me want to see some Shirley Temple for gods sake.
Still waiting on that movie about the nursing home couple. Foreign movie and no idea what the name was? Help me out.

Rat, I've been wracking my brain and not sure I've ever seen "Sleepers". Maybe if I watch 5 minutes of it will come back to me. Gotta write that down for future reference. Brazil was disappointing. Nothing in that movie was worthwhile. Not funny, interesting, or new. A waste of good actors.
I heard "Hysteria" was good when it came out. It goes on my to do list.

you know my opinion on Argo BUT IF you didn't think it should have won the Best Picture Oscar, then you will probably think Lincoln should have when you see it. I am STILL pizzed that CGI tripe Life of Pi (or Cow Pie or Lemon Meringue Pie or what EVER the HELL it was) director Ang Lee won the Best Director Oscar over Ben Affleck for Argo (not even nominated) or Steven Spielberg for Lincoln. even Kathryn Bigelow (Best Director Oscar for The Hurt Locker in 2008) for Zero Dark Thirty or Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained (won forBest Original Screenplay) would have been MUCH better Best Director selections

I think you would remember Sleepers IF you had seen it in the past, Doc. VERY well acted "revenge" / courtroom drama. definite
let me know what you think of Hysteria. I thought it was a pretty funny movie overall and absolutely hilarious in spots. also shows what it was like for women living in the "class" society of Victorian England.

"Bitter Feast" (2011) ........not sure what to make of this movie. It's a bad movie with some decent acting mixed in. It's cheesy yet fascinating at the same.
Been on Showtime for a while & I finally watched it all the way through.

Around the World in 80 Days (2004) really FUN Jackie Chan remake of the 1956 classic with Chan as Passepartout / Lau Xing, Steve Coogan as Phileas Fogg and Cecile de France as Fogg's love interest Monique. as you would expect, there is oodles of Jackie doing outrageous stunts and "kung fu" fighting and the movie is pretty much non-stop action
numerous celebrities in cameo rolls including Arnold Schwarzenegger as Turkish Prince Hapi (his last roll before becoming Governor of California), Sir Richard Branson as Balloon Man, Owen and Luke Wilson as the Wright Brothers, Star Trek's Patrick Stewart as Pope Leo XIII, John Cleese as a London police sergeant and Kathy Bates as Queen Victoria. Scottish actor Ewen Bremner is hilarious as Inspector Fix (and NO it is NOT Tom Green from the 2001 "cult classic" Freddy Got Fingered)
I was surprised how FAST this 2 hour movie moved. Jackie Chan can STILL "bring it" with the action stunts at age 59 and I think it would be a good "family" action-comedy for the kids. plays again on Encore Sunday Sept 29th and on Straz-Edge Tuesday Oct 1st and Wed Oct 2nd

Rat, You know how sports teams get caught in a bad 'Spot"? Hey, I've got this "Breaking Bad" marathon going. It's the weekend and I play college football seriously and trying to learn Futbol betting ( 17- 4 ) by poaching off guys on the forum. I don't have time for $heet.

One dimensional characters, you can see the ending coming from a mile away and the ending isn't exactly the best part of the movie..but I liked it. It grabbed my attention from the jump.

The Devil's Own (1997) just happened to watch last night on Sony Movie channel. was a decent crime-action drama with Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt, the late Ruben Blades and Treat Williams. was better than I expected with Pitt as an IRA "Provo" in the US seeking to buy stinger missiles from William's character. while in New York he ends up boarding in police sergeant Ford's basement and gets involved in his family life. pretty good action in spots and I thought well acted by Ford and Pitt

watched the mob "history" movie Mobsters (1991) on Encore. have seen it numerous times BUT it is a VERY well acted history of the rise of gangsters "Lucky" Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Frank Costello, and Benjamin (DON'T call him "Bugsy" in Las Vegas) Siegel played by Christian Slater, Patrick Dempsey, Costas Mandylor and Richard Grieco.
LOT of top actors from back then in the movie with Michael Gambon as Salvatore Maranzano (known as Faranzano in the movie), Anthony Quinn as Joe "The Boss" Masseria, F. Murray Abraham as Arnold Rothstein, the late Chris Penn as Faranzano lieutenant "Tommy" Reina and Nicholas Sadler as a VERY psycho Vincent "Mad Dog" Coll.
a lot of the story is "stylized" BUT the basic history in the movie IS correct. about the only big falsehood was the scene of Coll being killed in Faranzano's office by Luciano. Coll was actually killed in a gang feud with Dutch Schultz although he DID take a contract from the real Maranzano to kill Luciano after those two had had a falling out.
overall excellent, well acted movie by all involved and IF you like 1920's/1930's "gangster" flicks it's worth watching

Zodiac (2007) decent BUT overlong @ 2 hours 40 minutes. story of the hunt for the California late 1960s / early 1970s serial killer known as "Zodiac". the investigation by the San Francisco police and newspaper reports is somewhat interesting BUT there is also a LOT of "filler". it's on Sundance channel Thursday Oct 10th @ 1:00 pm pacific BUT you need to record otherwise the commercials will drive you NUTS. OK police crime drama and decent cast with Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Edwards, and Robert Downey, Jr but only
