Dont suggest things that stink or that star Whoopi Goldberg
the classic Humphrey Bogart Casablanca is on TCM @ 9:00 pm tonight (tuesday 8-23) and Paul Newman's The Verdict is on Fox Movires @ 9:15. there two I can watch over and over.
and speaking of Paul Newman, Cool Hand Luke is on HD Net Movies @ 8:30 tonight followed by Full Metal Jacket @ 10:45. also the Silence of the Lambs "prequel" Red Dragon is on Encore @ 9:30 pm. Hopkins as Lechter is almost as good as in the original.
and the Rod Steiger classic (the movie he SHOULD have won the Oscar for instead of "In The Heat Of The Night") The Pawwnbroker is on FLIX @ 8:45 pm. IF you haven't seem it or are just a Steiger or 60's "film noir" fan, it's a MUST SEE. IF I was going to pick one tonight, that would be IT. I would record it because you will want to see it again.

The Pawnbroker repeats on FLIX again Friday the 26th @ 5:00 pm incase you missed it.
Jakob the Liar is on the new Sony Movie Channel @ 5;10 am Wednesday the 24th. saw it awhile back and it's VERY well acted by Robin Williams
I'm set to record Death and Cremation on Chiller TV Wednesday the 24th @ 9:00 pm. saw snips the other night and looked interesting. Brad Dourif is usually VERY spooky in ANYTHING.
Bruce Willis Last Man Standing on Encore again Thursday the 25th @ 9:15 pm. the remake the Yojimbo-A Fist Full of Dollars plot in a Prohibition era South Texas small town has OODLES of Ordnance and pretty much non-stop action.

here's a few more....
two great Burt Lancaster classics in a TCM Lancaster marathon Thursday August 25th.
Sweet Smell of Success (1957) @ 9:00 am. Lanchaster plays J.J. Hunsecker, a powerful and vindictive newspaper and radio columnist, and Tony Curtis as his toady Sidney Falco. classic "film noir" that is a thinly veiled commentary on the power wielded by gossip columnist Walter Winchell back in the 1950's. like The Pawnbroker, it's "must see" just for the acting.
Seven Days in May (1964) @ 10:30 pm. a classic cold war political thriller with Lancaster as General James Mattoon Scott, Kirk Douglas as his aide Colonel Jiggs Casey and Fredric March as President Jordan Lyman. it's supposedly loosely based on the 'head butting" interaction between military leader like Generals Edwin A. Walker and Curtis LeMay with civilian leaders President Kennedy and Sec-Def Robert McNamara during the Cuban Missile Crisis taken to the extreme.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005) on IFC thursday august 25th @ 5:05 pm & 7;20 pm and saturday august 27th @ 5:00 pm & 7:15 pm.
VERY funny "SciFi Comedy" based in the British radio, TV and books series of the same name. Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent, Zooey Deschanel as Tricia McMillan ("Trillian"), Mos Def as Ford Prefect and Sam Rockwell as Zaphod Beeblebrox are all hilarious BUT Alan Rickman as Voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android, along with the bureaucratic Vogons, steal the show.
it's worth watching just for Marvin's snarky oneliners and THIS great line from the Vogon Leader https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0WcgZI_JDQ&feature=like-suggest&list=UL @ the 6:20 mark after being shot with the "point of view" gun. "Oh, I Feel SO Depressed"

IF there are two "for sure" records on my list, I would say they are Sweet Smell of Success (1957) on TCM Thursday the 25th @ 9:00 am and The Pawnbroker on FLIX Friday the 26th @ 5:00 pm (IF you missed it yesterday). they are to of my all time favorite "film noir".
THE scene, among many in The Pawnbroker, that SHOULD have won Rod Steiger the 1965 Best Actor Oscar over "Lee Marvin and a Horse" in Cat Ballou "You People?" >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qWqizV_puk

add Edge of Darkness (2010) on Cinemax (Max) Friday August 26th @ 5:00 pm with repeats on Monday the 29th and Tuesday the 30th.
VERY good mystery-action thriller with Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone based on the 1985 BBC television series of the same name. IF you don't like Gibson, "hold your nose". the plot is worth it. lot of "twists" and excellent action.

I'm set to record Death and Cremation on Chiller TV Wednesday the 24th @ 9:00 pm. saw snips the other night and looked interesting. Brad Dourif is usually VERY spooky in ANYTHING.
Brad Dourif was at his usual spooky best and the "revenge of the nerds meets silence of the lambs" premise was interesting BUT the plot was kinda lame and I think Chiller over edited to fit the time slot because they run commercials AND probably took out some of the more gory scenes. the ending looked like it was a "oops!!! time for an ending!!!" after thought.
pretty much a disappointment.
watched The Pianist (2002) on Starz the other night. good acting and interesting story BUT overly LONG. it's on Starz Edge HD again Sept 1st @ 9:45 am pacific IF you want to fool with it. Adrien Brody won the 2002 Best Actor Oscar for playing Polish person piano virtuoso Wladyslaw Szpilman who survived being in Warsaw during WWII.
