Saw an interview with him and the historian (there is a book too) that he coorporated with. He said it was very much factbased, and it has been factchecked by Cbs and Showtime i believe.

I am watching it, first episode was pretty good, Oli is one of my favs no question there. Didn&#x27;t learn anything new though.And as expected he does blend the use of fascist and conservative a bit. Next week he will be throwing Truman under the bus I&#x27;m guessing.

Come on Tilt, It seemed pretty even. I admit to being a little more left than you seem to be and was looking for his bias so I could bitch about him. Sounds like you and I and others who like history won't be to surprised by supposed things we don't know.

I liked it though. I wasn't tempted to turn it off. Kept me awake and curious.

He better not throw Henry under the bus. Trumans my man. Pisses me off when my fellow liberals don't get what a good President he was under the circumstances. It's all about where you are in a certain place in time for those President guys. Gl, Doc

I believe Stone goes after Truman because I got the feeling through the first hour of the series he was/is a big fan of Henry Wallace, he almost gushes over him. And if you didn&#x27;t already know this, Wallace was maybe Truman&#x27;s biggest critic, especially his Foreign Policy. It was pretty even, but then again it was just the first hour and built to the set up the rest of the series. We will see, he didn&#x27;t hesitate to point out figures who were conservative and with the exception of Oppenheimer, leftists were not mentioned.  I know Stone, he will jab anyone right of center with any chance he will get.with all that being said, I will be watching

Tilt, If they play it smart and want people in chairs in homes watching then they do a presentation that everyone will watch. Some of the stuff is designed for that. Easy listening. Some was like Mozart . Elevator music.

watched episode 1 and thought it was a good "Cliffs Notes" overview of WWII esp the war between Germany and the Soviet Union which really isn't covered that much in American history classes. too bad the late 70's "The Unknown War" series about "The Great Patriotic War", as the Russians call WWII, which was narrated by Burt Lancaster, has been lost to history. remember seeing it on PBS back then and it was excellent.

only compaint I have is the Mrs and I though Stone's narration was kind of weak BUT speaking has never really been his strong suit

Episode 2 about Henry Wallace, who was FDR's VP his first three terms, was interesting political history that I didn't know before. also all the "back door deals" the US and Britain did with Stalin which doomed the Eastern European countries to half a century of Soviet style dictatorship.

looking forward to Episode 3 "The Bomb" next week. I will bet you that Stone will argue that using the two atomic bombs on Japan was unnecessary to end the war

Seems like somebody predicted this earlier in this thread

oh and the sketchy comparison of the relationship between Poland/USSR and Canada/Mexico with the US...

The argument being that the previous 2 invasions of Russia came through Poland. Thus Stalin needed a communist government in control there.

Sure nobody wants a security threat on their front step, the difference is that we have never installed a friendly government by force in Canada and Mexico...never mentioned by Stone of course...

Next week should be even more fantastical...Hey they got me hooked anyway&#xD;&#xA;have heard a lot of arguments that the real "straw that broke the Japs back" was the Soviet Union entering the war and NOT the two atomic bombs. &#xD;&#xA;I personally don&#x27;t give a DAMN what ended WWII without an invasion of Japan because it saved hundreds of thousands of American lives and probably a million or more Japanese. my father was a Naval Aviator back then and I had two uncles in the Army that probably would have been in the invasion force. no matter what "history re-writers" want to say, Truman using the bomb just maybe saved their lives

Rat, The deal about the Democratic convention was interesting and history making. Still not finding much I didn't know. He makes a good point that Truman might have worked with the Russians and not tried to be a tough guy. The stuff about Truman's mother and father sounds like bullshit pyscho-history. Come on? Unfair attack, and questionable.

No problem bombing any one and everyone for me. Not buying Stones "could have been" history. I haven't heard anything that say's it was wrong. Lots of could be, might be, sorta, kinda, what if, crap.

I thought the first show was quite interesting and probably quite true.

It is true that had Germany not split their forces and focused on Europe the outcome would have been different. It is also true that Germany lost because they fought into the winter which was a mistake.

It is also true that there were MANY more Russians killed than person and Americans..but the media focuses on certain groups for obvious reasons.

I thought the insight to our approach about the war prior to entering was quite interesting..and it ringed very true.

I learned a few things that I didnt know before and outside Stones obvious biases spending tons of time on a few areas I liked what was in the first show quite a bit.

Rat, wallst., Tilt,   It&#x27;s a good doc because we are talking about it. I wish that Truman had worked with the Russians. That might be the core thing I got out of this. Diplomacy would have been better. I think that at that critical time we could have worked with the Russians. They seemed to be compliant. At least listening.I didn&#x27;t like the way he mentioned Trumans racial bias. He put it in just to demonize the guy by our current standards. Foul play! Yeah I think what was said regarding Truman's racist views is accurate..the source for the comments wasnt subjective, it came from stuff the guy said.

I do think Truman listened to the wrong people and we didnt need to use the A-bomb as we did, it was unnecessary and caused the death of how many innocent people?

It is interesting the perspective about GB and their imperialist objectives and how the abused many countries in slave like fashion.

Hmmm? &#xD;&#xA;I am pretty sure that IF Henry Wallace had been president and gotten his policies thru, the United States would probably be more like a European "Socialist" country with universal healthcare and other govenment social programs. also think ANY American President would have been "forced" to use the A-Bomb to end the war in the Pacific without an invasion of Japan.&#xD;&#xA;and as for Truman&#x27;s "racism", you have to remember the time he lived in.
