Rat,  There was also a book called "The 10,000 Day War" that played out in 10 or so parts on PBS about 25 years ago. I read the book and watched the series because I needed to. The book was unbiased (I think) and told a history of Vietnam from a 1,000 years ago to the 1970's. Lots of the video was shot by the N. Viets and many interviews with them. The show was from BBC so not very one sided. 

LOL,   I guess I did well.  I got the censors attention only twice and did it in one sentence.  It bothers me not that "shat" becomes "garbage" but it is strange sounding to say and mean crap "behind" and have the censors call it "crap behind".  I didn't want to say "crap behind",  I wanted to use the perfectly correct word "behind". As in "crap behind country in So. East Asia".

Ya, he was really ripping on Johnson, Nixon and Kissinger about Vietnam in the last episode. I remember when I was a kid in the 1950's-60's the whole country was paranoid about a ANYTHING "Communist" and everyone and their dog thought IF Vietnam fell to the North that ALL of Southeast Asia would "fall like dominos"

NOW Communist China is our biggest trading partner and Communist Vietnam is a close 2nd in that part of the world because of their potential offshore oil reserves .

Everyone can jump me on this if they want but in the eighties I pissed people off by saying the president had no clothes and was sick with dementia. I thought it was obvious.  He seemed like a sick man. He kept talking like old movies were his policy and couldn't get the reality right! 

I think the late Andy Rooney had the best description of Ronald Reagan's Presidency when after he left office he stated on his 60 Minutes segment that "Ronald Reagan did a wonderful job of portraying the roll of President of the United States"

to me, the man was a fraud. he came in as a "fiscal conservative" and tripled the countries debt. he pissed away billions (when billions really ment something) on weapons we didn't need like his 400 ship navy and others that never worked like "Star Wars" SDI. I think the alzheimer's was really starting to kick in in his 2nd term and that Nancy Reagan was really running the country

In the role of conservative, RR or Nancy cut the income rates across the board and ushered in the economic boom of the Clinton years and our last surplus. Just what was it that Clinton did economically that produced that surplus??? He sat in the oval office and enjoyed it like he enjoyed his Lewenskys. RR defense build-up was the price of toppling the SovietUnion and winning the ColdWar.

I'd be little inclined to accept the final word on RR from progressive Stone or Rooney, leftist mediaistas both.

RR could be an anarchist in his heart and everyone could label him fiscal conservative but what he DID was drastically reduce the income tax rates across the board which predictably increased activity in markets and business and created surpluses. The increased debt arising from mostly defense spending CAUSED the downfall of USSR and was the price of victory in ColdWar and the 3x of the debt was wiped out eventually by forementioned economic activity which increased revenue. His deeds were great what ever you want to label him and he was the last decisive president economically in the modern era. This subject turns this into PoliticalForum. No Bush should ever be mentioned with RR.

AND we are headed in the same direction IF we continue to be "the world police" and spend more on our military than all the other countries of the world COMBINED including the Chinese Communists

The final episode was the best of them all in my opinion, I'll even call it outstanding...a devastating critique of the failure Bush, the reality of Obama and how scarily similar he is to his predecessor, and a great conclusion on the fate of Empire...And the perfect ending with words of a JFK "in the final analysis"

Stone said in about a half hour what the 2005 documentary "Why We Fight" about the "Military-Industrial Complex" said about the Bush Administration in their 2nd hour.

I think the best overall description of the series is "everyone in government is/was an A**HOLE ex for Henry Wallace"

I've watched all but the last one and he has obvious biases towards certain people and against others.

He does have a fondness for Roosevelt, Wallace, the USSR and makes many good points.

What stuck with me more than anything is how the media shaped our perception of WWII and pre-WWII..making the USA and Israel the focus when really it was the USSR who were responsible for winning the war. That and how business was more entrenched in the government way long before I had expected..

in Europe, yes and they paid a horrible price for the victory. the Soviets had more people DIE in the Siege of Leningrad that ALL the British and Americans lost in the war

BUT the Soviets had NOTHING to do with the Pacific war against Japan until the very end when they made a "land grab" in Manchuria and Korea.

I watched up until Reagan for now. Really interesting and also a bit shameful and disturbing what CIA did throughout the world in those 4 decades after the 2 WW.
