I generally don’t like cop shows simply because of how ridiculously unrealistic they usually are. However, The Shield is a completely different story. It is definitely one of my top 5 favorite tv shows of all time. It also had one of, if not THE, best series premiere I have ever seen.
My only real gripe was the wife. She couldn’t act worth a damn and she was ugly as sin. During so many of the scenes between her and Vic I couldn’t even concentrate on what they were saying because I kept thinking “why the hell would Vic ever marry someone that looked like that.” There should be some rule against series creators being allowed to cast family members for their shows.

Yeah it pi$$ed me off too because everyone knew that Lem was no rat but I guess if you eliminate the witness then there is never an issue. I always questioned why these guys included Lem in the money train to begin with knowing his personality.
I love Walter Grogens new character on Justified. Unreal acting this guy. Really enjoyable character.

That might be true for Lem and Ronnie, but Shane was just as bad as Vic.
SPOILERS:
I thought the way the show ended was very fitting. All of the followers end up getting fucked and the ring leader gets off scot free.

scot free?....idk about that he will never see his family again. He lost his job that he loved and is no slave to a desk writing long reports for 3 years. Seemed like he said fuck it and just took his gun to go do something crazy that will end up with him dead or in jail with the rest.
I meant scot free as in free from prosecution from all the horrible shit he had done.
And I have no idea how anyone could watch that last scene and think “he said fuck it and just took his gun to go do something crazy that will end up with him dead or in jail with the rest.”

Agree completely about the show......best cop series ever.
Your comment about the actress who played his wife though is ridiculous. She was a fine actress and played the part perfectly. She was average looking. "Ugly as sin" is a bit of a stretch. Have you seen what Michael Chiklis looks like? He ain't no George Clooney himself. They were a realistic match.
One of my pet peeves is when they cast these super hot women with these "ugly as sin" guys. No realism whatsoever. If I'm only interested in watching hot women I'll watch porn.

Oh yeah, the creator’s wife is a “fine actress” indeed. Kind of strange considering she hadn’t done anything before The Shield and hasn’t done anything after it.
IIRC, Mackey had no trouble getting quality tail on the show.
Believe it or not there is something in between “ugly as sin” and “super hot.”
Also wanting the main character’s wife to be a decent actress that is at least decent looking doesn’t mean you are only interested in watching hot women.

At that age you can generally tell if someone used to look good. I doubt she ever did.
As for her acting: it was so bad that I couldn’t figure out how she made it on the show. Then I found out she is the wife of the series creator and it all made sense.
There is a reason she did nothing before The Shield and nothing after it.

I would strongly recommend you stop reading this or any other thread/board about the show until you finish it. You really don’t want to have some of the surprises ruined for you.

You make good points, Shooter San. That said, she never bugged me, acting or looks wise. I think she was pregnant (and then post-pregnant) for the first couple seasons. Still, she'd probably need a decent nose job just to be a 5.
