AND It sets up Tank-A-Palooza Part Deux: Pistons @ Cavs tomorrow. In Part 1 the Pistons were not tanking. In part 2, they should tank to keep their lottery pick.

If the Pistons win that game, they are in real trouble of losing their lottery pick, after all this losing and a horrendous season. All this, and they may get NOTHING for it.

But players do not tank, coaches and management simply direct/manipulate such a thing.

So it'll be real interesting how the Pistons players handle that game. I can assure you, whoever manages/owns the team (Dumars  in/out?), does not want the Pistons to win that game.



Cleveland has already opened at -6.5. That is almost same line that closed for the Pistons Bucks in which the Pistons had to win, did win, but didn't cover by a single point.

Very tough line. Wish the game was in Detroit so all the Cavs would need to do is win...

It'll be fun. I'll have my eye on that one.

Detroit will truly f*** themselves if they win it.

It opened for me at 5, Scal but I did not grab it! Anyway, great call LC, but I just couldn't pull the trigger on the Pistons after all they put me through:) Scal, as I mentioned in this thread, I don't think the Hawks still tanking is out of the realm of possibility. Let's see what happens the rest of the way. Still hoping for a Miami win here so we can go big on the Grizz. 

BTW, LC, what do you think of Chicago V Wolves now that the Wolves won? Does that change things? Of course, Chicago might be getting points now, while I thought I was clever taking them at -1.5:)

It is true but unfortunately for me (as a Knicks fan) LC's point about it being a bad spot for the Hawks turned out to be true. But was their some tank in there to help too? Hard to say. It was the right side regardless. We'll find out next game. If they lose to the Celtics who are next up and have lost 8 Ina row, tank mode it officially back in effect in ATL!

Come on Heat. set us up for this Grizz game. Good lord, the heat are I. Danger of going 0-4 against Brooklyn! Whodathinkit!

Goaltending on Plumblee not called there.

Thornton hits a 3 on the other end. 5 point swing in favor of the Nets.

Sketchy ref call there. You HAVE to give the edge to the shooter in that spot.

Heat are gonna have to beat the Nets and the refs to win this one...

BB  there goes the Grizz play.

Lebron stayed to watch the video board...sneered when he saw the replay.

Plumlee did get ball first there. Good call (but really the refs couldn't have really been able to determine whether that was ball first, another call that typically goes to the shooter in that spot).

Not to keep making excuses for the Heat, but I did want that Grizz play and now it is out the window...

Hey Scal, check this out... I didn't know this but Josh Smith did not play tonight and may not play tomorrow. Maybe the management kept him out, thinking it would give them a better chance of losing but the guy is such bonehead/selfish player that the Pistons were better off without him.

THAT WAS AN AMAZING PICK AND ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY CAPPED.  I listened to most of the game.  And the Atlanta announcer from three minutes into the first quarter kept saying the Hawks haven't shown up.  This could be a bad night for Atlanta.  Wow.

I saw that. And if he's out last night with tendinitis, you have to think he'll be out tonight in a back to back.

Perhaps Det. management/coaches didn't want him going off against his ex-team (as he had a poor showing the first game against ATL but 17-10 the next), the one time where you get a sloppy, disgruntled, unmotivated player to become motivated, especially on his old home court.

Of course, removing a disruptive player like this actually improves offensive flow. And ex-Louisville product Siva scored 10 big ones late (he averages 1 point) showing that players cannot and will not tank.

Another way for coaches to subtlety sabatoge their teams is to go minutes heavy on the starters, especially on a back to back like tonight. 

Stuckey and Monroe went almost 40 minutes each which is on the high side. More interestingly, they went only 8 deep and didn't play Charlie V (I know he's awful but he played on the Det/Bucks game to help them and erase the stain of the Sixers win believe it or not and he is an NBA body).

Now it's about "talent evaluation" for Pistons coaches and it should be really.

But talent evaluation is an excuse to juggle lineups and lose in some cases too.


More nice wrinkles:

Cavs had had FOUR days off (forget trends in this spot: they are home and rested and still haven't won since that Hawks debacle)
Cavs are NOT OFFICIALLY out of the 8th spot as they are 3.5 out with 4 to play.
Cavs may still believe they have a shot at 8th as the quotes I'm seeing say "it ain't over till ...l" but of course that could just be lip service and doesn't mean all that much.

If the Pistons win this, they move within ONE game of the Cavs with three to play and losing their draft pick.

Another nice wrinkle:

The Cavs game starts at 7 while Hawks Celtics starts at 7:30. A hawks win eliminates the Cavs but there is no way for the Hawks game to end first, potentially deflating the team during the game knowing theirs no longer matters.

This makes the Cavs ML a ultra-strong play and the line is ever so slightly outside of where I would have like (BB - your 5 I would have liked) at 6.5 so it's almost the same situation as Pistons Bucks here, trying to get over a spread hump with a bad team. That is why I just can't post this play in my own thread (so I'll take LC's glory and clog up his)  On the other side though, there is potential for a Cavs blowout here and there really wasn't one in the pistons bucks game IMO.

Interesting stuff going on here in Tanka A Palooza Part Deux but I could never post it for what the Cavs did to me.

ML parlay will be played all over the place and ultimately, I'm gonna have some action on a Cavs side here and maybe the line goes down a bit (ok, line is dropping and is 6 in some places now).
