up  $12, 300 in combined total wagers


I was down roughly $3, 500 at the start of the season, and that was mainly due to undisciplined, ludicrous pre tip-off bets



I could quit right now and be considered to have had a fantastic year......mostly due to sound in game betting

I watch most of you poor bastids stressing over pre tip-off lines to the point of prematurely greying and developing ulcers when the best line WILL ALWAYS BE PROVIDED TO YOU IN GAME!!!


You've just gotta listen to your gut as to when to hop on that train

SMART MAN!!  I never stress an IN GAME bet because 90% of the time, I know that I've gotten an optimal line.


It is occasionally juice-fu/cked online as well. But you've just gotta sit tight for that line that SPEAKS TO YOU.

I was up roughly 30k last year on first 5 and live bets in  the MLB alone



pre kickoff losses in the NFL/NCAAF this year? -$5600.  In game earnings from those same sports? $4700

How can you take advantage of an in game wager that's on the board for a few seconds and then quickly taken off as soon as they return from commercials?

Excellent points made in that astute post....respect!!

Obviously, you must do your due diligence before hand and come to a sound conclusion as to what the optimal line in your head should be based on your research. If the home team is getting -6 and you feel that they're no more than a -1.5  fav, then you've gotta patiently wait for that to be provided to you in game.

If the refs are being stringent from the start and are calling a lot of ticky tacky calls, then I tend to pounce on the OVER with the likelihood 
both squads going into the bonus early on and easing off on their defensive intensity

I find myself re-examining and updating my pre tip-off beliefs and conclusions on just about every stoppage of play. And this I find, makes me a sharper, more finely tuned capper

90% of the time u will get a better line live (I am stating the obvious)

the only draw back is the juice 10-15% more but still worth it as you buying 1, 2 3 +pts

think of any game (as long as its not wire to wire win) and its much smarter to bet in game

there's no more helpless, hollow feeling than knowing that your wager is dead in the water after a quarter of play. At least if you in game it, you were able to get a feel for the refs and players for about a quarter, or perhaps even three and a half quarters.


There's been plenty of times when the most optimal line was provided to me in the last 4-6 minutes of a game.

Thanks for the input Capt. Those are very helpful points. My biggest problem with live wagering is the mind games I play with myself. Although my hunch is right more often than not, I fail to act on it. For instance, I know that the NBA is a game of runs. I see a team go up by double digits in the first half and their opponent is +350 or more. My gut says put 500 or a 1000 on the +350 and just wait for the odds to even out (which they almost always do, since the team that is behind makes a run) but I  can never pull the trigger, for fear of losing. Maybe I should start small and work my way up. What's funny is that I have no qualms about placing a large wager before tip off. I guess It takes a certain kind of temperament to do live wagering, and I'm not sure if I have it. Which is too bad since I, like you, believe that it is very lucrative.

I don't tilt or steam for a prolonged period of time after losing an in game wager like I might do over an arduously researched pre tip-off bet. I know that I was able to secure a true betting market number and that I was able to rethink and realign my pre-game guesswork

It's strenuous, it's tedious, it's a lot of revisiting of well informed research and rationales and having the mettle and daring to

it's always comical showing some rash, poor bastid at a sports bar your 12pt in game edge on his pre game bet of the same fixture and just sitting there chilling out like a stallion in a plush stable while his cortisol levels yo-yo with every play.

Capt, you have a wonderful way with words. You really captured the inner drama of live wagering. It is not for the faint of heart, that's for sure, and it requires a certain amount of flexibility and adaptability (not to mention a steel stomach). It's hard to set aside one's ego and admit one is wrong, in life as well as gambling, and yet that, among other things, is exactly what is required if one is to succeed in live wagering.

love this advice 

lots of people hit 60% over 100 bets, takes something else to hit 58% over 1000 

lots of people win 20 units a season, takes this something else to win 200 units per season

That's a gorgeous line you were able to buy. I mean, GSW went on an incredible shooting/execution run down the stretch and just kept pouring it on, but getting a 10pt edge on the pre tip-off line? You really be tilted by that.

Dwelling on the previous night's wagers and having your judgement clouded by it is probably the #1 hindrance for all bettors.

Today you can go into your betting site with a pristine and restful mind. Knowing full well that you exercised patience and got am optimal line.
