Let me answer that by saying this:
I've read several books on written by trauma surgeons.
I wanted to know what it felt like to have life or death before me, at my hands, where a person's next breath, maybe the last, depends on your decision in the next 15 seconds.
I advise everyone here to read a book written by a trauma surgeon (several are on amazon), with the ultimate poise, skill, and stability, and ability being displayed by those practicing pediatric trauma.
Many times, these surgeons work 80 hour shifts (it used to be 120 hour shifts) and perform surgery on children in the last 10 hours of that shift.
Do you know what it takes to do such a thing? To have such a mind and courage and stability and skill to save a life and perform a surgery beyond our wildest dreams?
They explain it as the body going into overdrive. There is no fatigue. There is no fear. There is simply a job to do, a life to save. You get the job done, period.
The Cavs are no surgeons and only bounce a ball to play a game.
But in their own unique way, after a dismal season, they have done something they haven't done all year, come together, perform their duty with confidence and get the job done.
The Knicks win was a road game after a back to back with Houston. They won by 6 in front of Phil Jackson, kicking the leg out from under the horse he had his chariot pull him into the Garden with.
Then on a 3rd in 4 against the division leading raptors, they won by 2 and held the raptors to a single field goal in the last 6:44, an amazing defensive first for this ragtag group.
Then in a 4th jn 5th, they went to Michigan and beat the Pistons on a last second shot, making a 10-0 run to end it.
Now it's a 5th in 7.
Why doubt their effort, why doubt their endurance when they just won outright on a back to back, a 3rd in 4, a 4th in 5th: all games that make bettors shiver?
Tonight they face the Nets and just like the operating table, it's a do or die. They are not looking to compete.
They are looking to win. There is no fatigue tonight. There certainly wasn't in the last three wins.
And the books are giving us nine points. Ok, thanks. Are they expecting them to roll over and die? Nine points says so but their play of late most certainly hasn't.
Tonight, I wear a Craig Eloh jersey and take those nine points.
Tonight, the Cavs survive the trauma they have experienced all year.
Next patient in the ER?..the Brooklyn Nets...
