Just curious who votes for who. I think age plays a big part in how players are ranked all time.
I'm a die hard Celtics fan, and I think Kareem is one of the most underrated players ever. If Shaq had worked as hard as Kareem, he could have been regarded as the best big man to play. Kareem played in 95% of his teams regular season games and shot 72% for his career from FT line. Everybody kisses Shaq's ass. Shaq underplayed his hand. Shaq only appeared in 77% of his teams games. He never played 82 games even once! 52% career FT shooter made him irrelevant late in close game. Poll 100 20-30 year olds and I bet they would say Shaq was better. How quickly people forget.

i agree with you 100%, kareem is massively underrated, he won 3 college titles, and i think 6 nba titles, and made like 16 or something crazy amount of allstar games and like you said he was a warrior and rarely missed games in his long long long career.

You nailed it with this. Shaq coulda been probably the greatest basketball player ever if he had half the work ethic and desire as the other greats. If he had half Kobe's will the guy would still be dominating today.
In LA when kobe and Shaq used to fued so many people took Shaq's side and made excuses for his laziness cuz he was "a cool guy." You know how frustrating it was for Kobe to work his ass off all off season and then see Shaq come in first day of camp and its obvious he did NOTHING but sit on his ass all off season and eat.
He singlehandedly destroyed the Celtics this year as the put all their stock (questionable decision for sure) in him being healthy and the dude just did nothing. All he does now is just talk about how awesome he is, he never actually does shit anymore.
He is who he is because of how big he was, plain and simple. If he was 6 inches shorter dude woulda neer sniffed the NBA, he'd be lying in a bed somwhere 500 lbs overweight on the verge of death. Wait till you see this guy in 10 years after hes done playing, its gonna be real sad, but he'll still have his millions so he'll still be talking about how awesome he is.
I know I just ripped him pretty hard but Im not really even a Shaq "hater" by any means. But he coulda been so much more (even tho he still had a HOF career) had he put any effort into it. Just the way he refused to work on his free throws (he did eventually) for years shows how selfish he is. The Lakers made the right choice in dumping him for Kobe

I think in their prime Shaq was the more dominant force offense/defense. Don't get me wrong Kareem was an amazing player as well. I just think shaqs size and force on the court was a huge factor to his play as well. He was unstoppable when he stepped in, but as with most players in their late 30's their body falls apart. But yeah his laziness did play a part of his useless now. I hate shaq btw hes a loser

And i remeber when i was a kid i would play by myself in backyard i would be lakers and i would say Kareem with the Sky hook i never missed lol
I'm 41 and pulled out the "sky hook" call playing with my 10 year old in the driveway last week. He said "what did you say?". I pulled up some youtube clips for him to see. He said Kareem was better at the sky hook than me. I said "That's because he invented the shot!"

its not even close. for all the idiots who said Kareem, did you watch Shaq when he played in Orlando before he ate all the hamburgers? he was lightning quick and nobody could stop him down low (Hakeem '95 finals did NOT shut him down) Or do you know that Phil Jackson called Shaq in his prime the "MDE"- most dominant ever. He also coached that Michael Jordan guy. Quite a compliment if you ask me.

I'd have Shaq just on the basis of his impact to the league from the day he got drafted to when he won a ring with the Heat in 2006. Don't think we will ever see another big man as explosive as he was in our lifetime.
Kareem's longevity is remarkable

Shaq's prime was a short run. Kareems was his whole career.

But what is the basis here? I mean are you going to look only at the stats here or other intangibles?
And of course if you poll people in the 20-30 bracket you are going to get the response in favor of Shaq.

Almost anything I look at, Kareem was better. Only thing Shaq had over him was more of a physical style of play. But get Shaq away from the basket more than 5 feet he was cooked. As soon as he went to the Lakers he was more worried about Hollywood than playing baskets.
