All true Hoop Heads that are objective and I don't want KOBE lovers or KOBE haters in this thread. I want true non bias hoop heads who call it like they see it weigh in and give your predictions/analysis/opinions ect ect Before the season starts and I reiterate Before the season starts what you think Kobe will avg/fg%/assts/rebs/turnovers

My initial views on watching Kobe thus far is that he looks okay. I understand that B-Scott has been running them like crazy in practice so I can understand why a lot of lakers have no legs as you can obviously see by them getting shalacked(not sure if that's a word) in the last 4 preseason games

In this thread I want to stay on course and focus on Kobe I don't want to deviate into Laker talk. I strictly want to focus on kobe the individual and his numbers. Recently espn ranked Kobe @ 40 on the list assessing every player in the NBA. I actually thought that wasn't a bad spot to put him based on the circumstances of him coming back from an ruptured Achilles and broken knee cap at the age of 36.

I will watch the remaining preseason Lakers games closely and rite before the First game at home vs Houston I will give my prediction on what numbers I think Kobe will put up. All covers members who are sensical and act like adults can do this also and opinions are WELCOMED and appreciated cause I love talking hoops with real hoop heads regardless whether I agree or disagree with you

"I've known for a long time [that] they're a bunch of idiots," Bryant said Thursday after the Lakers' 119-86 preseason loss to the Utah Jazz, hours after ESPN announced its ranking online.

Chris Broussard quoted 2 anonymous scouts telling him they think Kobe is done and will avg 16-17 ppg and shoot anywhere from 40-43% from the field. They told Chris that kobe cant get by defenders off the dribble and he will be mainly relying on post fadeaway jumpers

I cant wait for the season to start to see whether kobe will quiet the doubters and the haters who could possible be rite. Remember father time is undefeated and unblemished only 2 be given a run for his money by the Legendary Bernard the alien aka the executioner Hopkins

I agree with you motowner to a certain degree. I have noticed in preseason that Kobe is having problems getting by defenders and elevating over taller defenders, but you have to take in consideration training camp, dead legs, timing and he is coming off a major injury. I think we have to be patient before we can come to a conclusion on how Kobe will fair this season

I just think it will be fun to see who on this forum who will be the closest on accurately predicting Kobes numbers this year. I have an idea of the numbers I will predict but I still want to see a couple more preseason games before I place my numbers in for him.

Kobe will average over 20 with a low fg% solely because he'll take enough shots to reach the numbers he wants. They won't compete in the West and by him taking the amount of money he took its clear he is all about himself these last two years. He'll have high numbers because that's the objective clearly. I have mad respect for Kobe but like it or not he's a selfish player which at times is a good and bad thing. At 36 and the only good player on that team (Randle may be good) he's going to dominate the ball handling.
As for the ranking that is too low imo. They put wade at 36 and I would take Wade and Kobe above several players ranked ahead of them (DeAndre Jordan, Conley, etc.) I say both are Top 25 with a lot having to do with their killer instinct. Neither are as explosive or have as much lift but with a chip on their shoulder which both clearly have I wouldn't bet against them.
As a side note father time may be undefeated but Duncan is pushing the limits

Kobe tonite in preseason game vs Utah: 32 minutes/ 7-22 fg / 3-7 3pt / 9-11 ft / 4 rebs / 5 assts / 1 steal / no blocks / 4 turnovers/ +/- +21/ 26 pts # My Grade for Kobe was a C+ tonite. I liked the fact he went to the charity stripe 11 times and tonite I finally saw signs of him getting his first step back and getting by defenders. His shooting percentage stunk that's why I knocked him down to a C+. Kobe hasn't yet in preseason shown me the ability to be efficient. He would of gotten a B- but him getting crossed over and looking foolish I had to penalize him for that. His +/- was + 21 tonite so his energy was infectious and the team fed off his aggressiveness.
Overall Grade C+

Laker fan since the 60's. I'm surprised Kobe has done as well as he has so far. IT's pre season so its hard to put much stock in it. From what I've observed there is still talent and skills. However he doesn't seem to be jumping as high and the lateral movement on defense isn't all- pro level by any means at this point. Too much gambling on defense also. All this is o.k. for now. Conditioning is a factor at this time also. ppg 18.6 fg% 44.0 apg 3,4 tpg 4.2

Not gonna lie Kobe is my favourite player of all time, however I believe my view is still unbiased to comment on this. I watched today as well, he gambled a lot on defense because he knew he couldn't stay in front of burks. He can't go past defenders that well still but obviously that was expected with the injuries, that'll change some mid December. Once he has more offensive weapons on the floor in Nash/ Lin and believe it or not but Henry, his shooting percentage will be fine. He just needs to get to the lime

U make some good points the z bar but I feel your prediction of 18.6 ppg is not taking in consideration the Lakers lack of offensive firepower and kobes shot volume. As far as assts go Kobe has not avg less than 4 assts since 98-99 season. I expect kobe fga/g to be around 20 - 24 shots per game so I think 18 ppg for the Black Mamba is underestimating what he does the best and that is score. Kobe is easily one of the top 3 scorers of all time # my top 3 Micheal Jeffrey Jordan/Kobe Bean Bryant/Bernard Earl King

Kobe tonite in preseason game vs phoenix suns : 34 mins/10-20 fg / 27 pts / 0-1 3pt / 4rebs / 2 assts / 0 BLK / 5 TO's # Kobe looked awful in the first half going 1 for 7 with only 4 pts shooting all tough fadeaway jumpshots. In the second half he caught fire especially down the stretch making some tough shots over PJ tucker and continued his hot hand in OT until Byron took him out cause Kobe was at his minute limit for the nite. Grade B- # Kobe had a problem tonite getting by defenders and in the paint. All his shot was midrange jumpers and fadeaways all nite. I would of gave him a strong B if his assts to turnover ratio for the game wasn't so bad and he also stunk in the first half. Its still amazing that Kobe shot 50% from the field cause all his shots for the most part were contested and tough shots. Not sure if Kobe can live off jumpers all season and expect to be efficient.

Fair enough. The lakers will need some balanced scoring and that in part is the reason for the lower ppg prediction. Kobe ball won't work, He can average 26 per game but the team will suffer. My assists guess may ibe a tad low. I also factored the reduced minutes into the estimate. Tonight's box score was positive! I didn't see the game but the box score suggests there was some team work.

Was awesome seeing Kobe hit those tough shots but you're right, it's not what the lakers need. He definitely should've passed to Lin for that last tough contested basket in regular time. Doesn't seem like much trust is there, but Kobe's scored over 24 in his last 3 hey? That's something

Even though I want to see Kobe play as many preseason games as possible to evaluate him to make a educated guess prognosticating his numbers this year, im hoping Byron Scott sits him tonite vs the Blazers on the second of a back to back. # that would be the wise thing to do Kobe is extremely competitive and only knows how to play @ 1 speed so sometimes you have to save him from himself and in a meaningless preseason game Kobe needs to rest # father time # Achilles recovery
