I don't like Kobe or the Lakers but I think they're a little better than Boston. LA had a tougher road: Denver, Utah, and San Antonio and they were never pushed past 6 games. Boston was pushed to 7 games by Atlanta and Cleveland. They were more impressive against Detroit.
I see a couple of x factors:
1) Phil Jackson. No question he will be a better coach in this series than Doc Rivers.
2) Kobe Bryant. He's a true go-to guy who can take control and close out games. He's the closest player to Jordan that I've seen since Michael retired. Garnett is a great player but not really the closer or game changer that Kobe is.
It will be a good series and has some interesting storylines. I see LA splitting in Boston then getting 2 of 3 in LA. Then I think LA will come up big in Game 6 not wanting to play a Game 7 on the road where anything can happen.

In probably 6 games.

The Celtics are going to need to have more than Pierce on Kobe to shut him down. I agree with you about Kobe being Jordan-like with being able to control games and take them over. Ah I miss Jordan, the 90's were the best for basketball, especially since I live in Chicago.

Boston is like San Antonio...they are old and can run out of gas, which will lead to them not closing out in the 4th like many of their other games....Lakers will burn them.....

Some good comments guys. Please don't turn this thread into a homer fan forum. I don't mind comments for the Celtics or from people from Boston as long as it's not just a rah rah comment.

I agree because I really can't see how Celtics can matchup with the Lakers. Honestly, I can't see Celtics winning at all - only if the Lakers let them.

no way is paul pierce able to stay in front of Kobe. That would be the dumbest thing that the Celtics could do. The lakers are actually a pretty bad matchup for the Celtics. Only advantage the Celtics will have is KG, but hes a mismatch against almost any team and Gasol and Odom might be able to keep him under control. Pierce won't be able to guard Odom or Kobe. Ray Allen can't guard Kobe and Kobe should lock him down. Rondo can't handle Fisher and no way will perkins be able to slow down Gasol if thats they way the matchups go.

LeBron shut himself down by clanging open jumper after jumper.
Last I checked Pierce isn't as good a defender as Bowen and Kobe had no problems in that series.
He'll have a lot of trouble in this series. First Pierce is playing excellent D and he gets help when he needs it. Pierce is also a lot stronger than Bowen which will cause problems for Kobe if he decides to post up. If the Lakers decide the way to go is to play an up-and-down game then look for Ray Allen to have a good series.
My vote for MVP is Kobe or KG. There should be a prop for this.

Celtics will break KOBE'S leg if need be, but they won't have to...C's have a tremendous amount of inside presence along with a will to prove to the world their age means cock...the lakers have one guy trying to erase a sodomy charge in colorado...he will be exposed and yes I am a female!

Go look at LeBron's FG% last series. Kobe will get points but the remainder of the team will struggle.

I don't like Boston in this matchup, if they have a shot they are going to need all 3 of their big guys to play huge and they are going to have to stifle Kobe. That's a lot of things to go right to win a series. I think the Lakers can be rattled though (especially Odom and Gasol) and if they keep Kobe from getting into that Jordanesque "time for me to take over the game" mode, they can win it.
Will be rooting for Boston to win, but the matchup seems to favor the Lakers way too much.
