The NBA is bleeding support or it's just two teams no one cares that much about. Just 4 years ago the Finals averaged over 20 million a game. And there's zero chance the NBA lost half its viewers in 4 years because of chord cutters. I just personally can't stand the "popular" players. Hard to support them. If it wasn't for how fun gambling on basketball games is I wouldn't watch it. That's just my opinion.

"All 11 of the least-watched NBA Finals games of the past 14 years have taken place over the past two years. In fact, we have to go back to the 2007 NBA Finals to see numbers that compare to the past two matchups. Even then, seven of the past 11 games in the championship round have drawn less viewers than the least-watched game of 2007 when the San Antonio Spurs swept the Cleveland Cavaliers. Before that, we have to go back two decades to find similar numbers. Ouch!
To make matters even more severe when it comes to NBA TV ratings, Game 2 on ABC Thursday evening drew 6.97 million viewers. That represents the third least-watched game since ratings became available back in 1974.
To be clear, this is a dramatic drop off from the height of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors run of four consecutive NBA Finals matchups. How dramatic? Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals drew 31.02 million viewers.""

the nba is a global monster. I always get a kick out of these posts and when people from the usa try to say things like nfl and ncaaf are bigger than nba.
Don't get it twisted, I'm not saying the nba doesn't care about its USA viewers, it does. But the nba has markets in Asia and Europe that that far exceed any other sport besides soccer. The amount of money the nba takes in from around the globe compared to nfl and ncaaf is not even close.

Agree with this. I think people underestimate the impact of the NBA going political. It's the main reason my friends stopped watching or caring about it. It's the main reason I can't stand many of the players and the NBA as a whole. I used to be a big fan of people like Lebron and Pop before they became political. I think the NFL did a great job of rebounding from Kaep, but them starting this black national anthem nonsense is a move I can't even begin to understand as to why they think it's a good idea and what the fans want. Oh well, I think the NFL players are far more likeable and fantasy football is a ton of fun, so I'll probably watch the NFL this year whether I'm betting or not. The NBA is dead to me unless I have money on the game.

The NBA finals have never bled into July...most people dont watch Tv and sports nearly as much as they do before July...theres your real reason plain and simple.
Plus the world has shifted its attention span and what they choose to do with their free time due to this covid era...comparing thens and nows isnt going to work much...too much has changed.
If they have the finals in June like usual next year, regardless of the teams the ratings will be better.

I think post covid, people just don't care about sports as much. Everything has been put in perspective. I watched a lot less sports the this season and during the bubble. Plus for many people, watching sports was a social thing. Watching the game at a bar after work or at a buddy's house, etc. That has been affected as well. Last summer I was getting reacquainted with the mrs. Going on hikes and shit. I didn't really give a damn about sports.

It's all about Yannis, Chris, and Drew. Hope they win, would at least be a good story, even though no one is watching.
Everybody is rooting for CP3 because he's old. Middleton and Uncle Jrue aren't spring chickens either though. And they are high character guys. Jrue married to his college sweetheart. A high level athlete herself. I remember when he took time off because she had cancer or some shit. It was a heartwarming story.

@StumpTownStu ca$h could care less about the home team, but if my money is on it these guys are incredible. truly honorable citizens
Yeah, I watch football when I have money on it because there is always something to be learned. I really don't have to watch basketball when my money is on it. College, yes, but NBA basketball is such a shit show. You aren't learning anything from it. When you watch your football wager, if you lose, you can say, "Ok, I see where my mistake was." or, "I didn't make a mistake. My capping was sound. There was just some fluke shit." In NBA basketball, these guys never play true to form anyway. The shit becomes somewhat of a crapshoot. There's very little to nothing to be gleaned.
