Bb, added value to the thread with regard to the officiating angle (and the out of bounds call wasn't even 50/50 obviously).
Melos, I agree completely. Where Hibbert goes, so goes the pacers.
Let me just say this about the pacers:
I doubted them against the Hawks: it cost me.
I doubted them against the Wiz: it cost me.
I will doubt them no more.
Something has to be said for a team suffering an internal crises and surviving, and here they are with the home court Miami handed to them.
I hope it goes 7 and I hope the pacers win. I may even sprinkle on the series line and if gets to 2-2, I'll have more than enough to know the pacers can pull something out of their a** in a game 7 at home and I'll take them with an adjusted line (which will still be quite high).

It goes without saying, but of course I agree with your opinion that the Pacers shouldn't be overlooked. I'm really surprised that this many people are giving them no shot. Not saying they are going to win...but they do have the firepower to make it a close series.

I agree with kingcover20, home court here is no advantage.
I would agree with kingcover as well..especially since he was so eloquent with his point and backed it up with evidence. The evidence being that he attended a game, and that he's from New York. What more evidence do we need...
It really seems like home court advantage hasn't been a factor in this years playoffs. Lots of strange things in this post-season, but the lack of home court wins has been the biggest surprise.
I don't have any plays as far as the series plays go, but I was thinking that the best play may be to just take a series bet on whoever loses game 1. I don't think home court is that big of a deal in this series, but the home court is put into the series prices. If the Pacers lose, I would imagine the series price would go to +550 or more...and that would be a decent value play. If Miami loses game 1, their price would go down to -200 or maybe lower, and that would be more value than what you're getting now.
I don't have any specific plays for game 1...I want to see what the Pacers do defensively against Lebron in the first half...and I want to see how effective the Heat are at limiting the Pacers bigs. If I notice something I like or don't like I may make a 2h play.
GL to everyone who's in play today

i do believe that miami brings out the best in indiana, but miami especially is not phased at all in any road games and arenas like OKC and san antonio are much more difficult to win in...conversely, i don't think miami has much of a home court advantage either, they just have the best player in the world

alan...where the heck was this for the last 3 mos??? maybe the pacers were playing possum. i have a large futures position on pacers to win conf & championship and SA/Ind finals. hedged a ton on wash series, i just cannot figure this team out. what now? i really need some advice going forward. heat are still -180 to win series. should i wait til after game 2? if heat win game 2, the price will be back around -400. the plan is to take a little bit now and if pacers win game 2, i will hit miami hard on ml game 3. if pacers go up 3-0, obviously it is over. if miami wins game 3 i would win that be but still be in decent position on my futures with pacers up 2-1. the difference between nets and pacers is that pacers have no fear (although they are quite dysfunctional or maybe just bored for the last 3 mos?). nets had heat on the ropes in 2 games and completely folded or that series could have gone much deeper.

Ok...here are my thoughts on what happened yesterday...both from a series betting, game betting, and basketball in-game perspective.
I will refer back to some things I wrote in the series matchup as well to try and help explain everything...obviously this is from my point of view.
Go back and read my "Word of caution to Bettors". It's a big lesson I've learned in sports betting over the years, and I really, truly hope people get something out of it.
Big picture: People pay attention to the extreme lows of a team, and not the overall potential of their ceiling. What the Pacers have done the last 3 months is have these unexplainable performances losing in bad fashion that make everyone's radar. They talk about it on First Take, Steven A Smith says stuff like the Pacers don't deserve to be here, twitter goes nuts, people on Covers say clever and extreme things about how terrible the Pacers are…and people focus on that instead of looking at the big picture of a team. People in general, but especially bettors, are more influenced by emotion rather than facts, stats and history. When they are at their best, this team is an elite team in the league. The bottom line is over the course of 82 games this team had the best record in the East…earned the number 1 seed, and homecourt advantage. They advanced in the first round, advanced in the second round, and are now up 1-0 on the defending champs.
Matchups: For some mystifying reason, people bring up matchups in all these series this post-season except this one. What did everyone say against the Hawks…Pacers don't matchup well. What did people say against the Wizards…Pacers don't matchup well. They were right…and the reason the Pacers don't matchup against those teams is because they were built to beat the Heat. However, when they play the Heat nobody has been saying, "Hey, the Pacers now have the matchup advantage". It's a lot more sexy to say, "Lebron and Wade are going to kill the Pacers, the Pacers don't have a chance" instead of saying, "Yes the Pacers have struggled, but now they play the team they are built to beat".
The Pacers Defense: The Pacers did what I hoped they would do on defense. Lebron had 25, Wade had 27 (not many in the second half), and that was about it. They held the three other starters to a combined 18 points, Bosh did his disappearing act, and they only had 2 bench players score. I've said it a million times: To beat the Heat, you have to limit the role players. The Pacers did that, and the ripple effect is that the role players don't get active on the defensive end. The Pacers are turnover prone, and Miami only forced 12 TO's. That limits them getting out in space, dunking, getting momentum, etc. They got outrebounded by 9…Ray Allen had more rebounds than Bosh and Battier combined…limit the role players, and that's your best chance.
Lineups:
I mentioned in the series writeup about the advantages of the Bigs for Indiana and the perimeter for Miami:
It's clear the Heat are struggling to matchup against a couple of guys, and I don't see the answer on their bench. They started Battier, I guess for defense and open 3's, but he was worthless. They tried to go small, but West and Hibbert ate them alive. When Bosh is your center, you're going to have inside problems. Scola played 14 minutes, and had more than twice as many rebounds as Bosh…even though he played twice as many minutes as Scola. They are probably going to have to insert Andersen into the starting lineup. He's the only guy who can bang with those two guys, and he's good at rebounding and putbacks. I'm guessing he plays Center, and Bosh is at power forward. But now David West is posting up a guy who has the post-up defense of Gumby, so that's a problem.
Perimeter: In what was supposed to be an advantage for Miami, the Pacers perimeter not only matched the Heat, but actually outplayed them. Wade was great early, but it felt like the Pacers matched him, and then in the second half he started to fade. Chalmers was non-existent, and I was really disappointed in Norris Cole. He's better than this. Allen only went 2-6 from 3 point range, and the three guards for the Pacers totaled 43 points, and ONLY 5 TURNOVERS! That's huge. George Hill was aggressive, and even though he didn't shoot particularly well, he was active on defense, and Lance played fantastic. He was unpredictable, but he's unpredictable to both teams, and when he's playing well, it's tough to guard him.
Coaching: I thought it very interesting that the Pacers went to a 7 man rotation, and the Heat went to a 9 man rotation. I think the Pacers and Vogel know that Scola, and Watson are the only guys coming off the bench that should get big minutes. Mahinmi is basically 6 fouls walking, and only plays to spell Roy and West. I will give Vogel this…I've criticized him for not developing his bench, but at least he's sticking to his strategy and not getting cute messing with lineups. It kind of looked like Spoelstra was trying to find matchups where he has advantages, and yesterday he couldn't find it.
Overall thoughts: It's amazing how good a team can look when their shots are falling. The Pacers shot 51% from the field, 42% from 3 points, and 78% from the line. I don't think they will do that every game, but now they only need to do that three more games. The Pacers D had a great strategy, and I think it's going to give Miami problems every game. Miami looked either tired, or uninterested at times. I couldn't put my finger on it, but Lebron had the quietest 25 points I think he's ever had, and I really think it was because of the lack of fast break transition dunks. Miami is at their best when it's that organized chaos in the open court coming from their defense, and they just didn't get into that yesterday. They are going to have to figure out how to do that moving forward.
What would I do if I was Miami: I would start Anderson at Center, Bosh at PF, Lebron at SF, Allen at SG, and Wade at PG. Yes, I said Wade at PG. I would let Lebron, Wade and Allen take turns bringing the ball up court, and see if you can get Allen going behind the arc. I would sub in Cole for Wade throughout the game to take turns guarding Lance, and sub Chalmers for Allen. At this point, the Heat need to take a chance, and they may need to play Wade into the ground to pull out this series. I would let Andersen play lots of minutes, and hope he can clog the middle and make life difficult for West and Hibbert. Chris Bosh should try and stretch West out to the arc, but that means he needs to make that long jump shot. If he hits those, it opens up the lane for Lebron and Wade, but if he's not hitting those shots it will be a long game.

Betting strategy: I said earlier I would think about a series bet on who lost game 1, but I don't think -200 is a good price for Miami. The Heat have some big matchup problems to overcome, and let's not forget the burden Lebron has had to carry this season, and what he has to do this series. It may not be enough. I also don't think an overreaction is warranted here to proclaim the Pacers the best team ever. Right now, I would pass on the series prices. If you have futures on either team, and are looking to hedge, it really depends on what numbers you're holding, and how confident you are.
Look at bets other than the spreads and series prices. Yesterday we hit a winner with the 2h over 44 points for the Pacers. Yesterdays game flew over the total, and I think there's still some value for some over bets right now. Both offenses looked solid, but when the Pacers need baskets, they are able to go inside and get short shots from Hibbert and West. Those are great opportunities for bettors to get some value in numbers. For example, I will probably take the Pacers team total over 91. Yes the Pacers have been inconsistent, but their offense looked great, and I believe they can keep it up. What I try and do when betting the post season is just try and turn a profit over the course of a series, not just game to game. I lost a little overall on the Atlanta series, but did very good in the Washington series. Started off with a nice win on game 1 in this series.
As a Pacers fan, I'm happy with the performance…and as a basketball fan I look at the Heat and I think Lebron is going to have to be superman and then some to win this series if their role players aren't playing better than what they did yesterday. It's not a bad thing to depend on a player like Lebron, but he's going to have to get help at some point over the next 6 games.

agree 100%. the pacers do match up well with the heat, i was just questioning their grit and determination. i really believe that if they want it, they can go get it. to me, it all comes down to the perimeter players for the heat. you cannot stop lebron, but when you triple team him, he kicks it out to the 3pt shooters. (battier, miller, allen last yr). that is what killed the spurs. every game, one of their shooters got hot. heat have nothing inside. the pacers should dominate there. also, their guards (george, stephensen) can defend when they want to. they have to prove it to me for more than one game that they really want it. i don't want to hedge yet but i have been burned so many times betting against the heat (huge futures on spurs in finals last yr, was 27 seconds away).

what makes me laugh is indianas home court "advantage" I'm from NY and i was at game 3 of the ECF in indy last year and miami embarrassed you guys, straight up steamrolled you-blue collar gold swagger my behind!...bankers life field house is a joke
The last 8 Games between Pacers/Heat the homes teams have won and they have alternated wins each
of the last 12 meetings that they have played. So the Heat in game two
might be good shot in game 2.

Going to make a play on tonights game...Pacers TT over 91. I know the Pacers shot at a very high percentage, and I don't expect that to happen, but I loved the movement and intensity when the Pacers were on offense. I do expect the Heat to play better defense, but I'm not sure they have the personnel to truly dominate on defense.

You are right about personnel... Larry Bird built this team to beat the Heat and that is by creating a match-up problem for the Heat. They brought in Oden just for Pacers and he is a bust. The Heat will not stop Pacers inside, they can still beat the Pacers but they need to outscore them. As long as Pacers pound it inside they will be close or win but they will score.

Going to do two things for the second half. Small play on Pacers pk 2h. The other thing I'm going to do is watch my Pacers TT play die and slow and painful death. Shooting slump killed that.
Both teams missing shots, but Lebron doesn't look engaged. and local journalist tweeted that Wade was grimacing towards the end of the half...looked like knee problems. Pacers also will get West back this half. If Pacers can limit the role players getting hot I like their chances.

So, there's a local sports guy...some of you probably know him...Dan Dakich...he's very respected and knowledgeable, does a really good radio show, and isn't a guy who looks for attention by being outlandish. He is saying that there is no doubt Dwayne Wade kneed Paul George in the head on purpose. The thought hadn't even occurred to me so I looked around, and he's not the only guy saying that. Here's the video:

Just curious what people's opinions are on this topic, as the thought never occurred to me that he tried to do it on purpose.

I thought the same thing when I saw it live during the game, but after watching a few replays, I doubt Wade planned to lose the ball down 4 pts and arrange him self in position to knee PG a couple of times in the head to knock him out of the game. Am I saying he didn't or did, NO but to say he did it on purpose is kind if calling Wase super man. Hard to plan all that then think react knee to head in that amount of time. Althooo given the oppurtunity I am sure he would have done something to affect even the smallest thing to give Heat the advantage.
Anyways after reading your comment, and thinking about it, reminds me if KoBE having his noise broken during an all star game by wade.

Yes, Alan, i thought the same thing when it happened. Been watching wade for along time. It reminded of the time he took Rondo down with a wrestling type move during the playoffs. Wade certainly has a history of pulling stuff like this and i would not put it past him.

in his formative years in the league wade was one of my absolute favourite players for both his style of play and his apparent good, humble character.......no longer.
he is a different guy entirely from the one that entered the league, embracing the posing,primping,chest-thumping style favoured by modern players ever since the time bosh and lebron joined up with him.i guess a feeling of invincibility and entitlement will do that to you.
he now has a very well-established record of being a cheap-shot artist of the worst kind built up over several years after incidents such as the rondo one that beginner-boy mentioned, the knee to the groin of ramon sessions earlier this season(or last??),the nasty playoff altercation with rip hamilton wen he was with the bulls a while back, the un-necessary foul to the face of kobe in the all-star game.and on and on and on.are we meant to seriously believe all this garbage is inadvertant??while guys with lesser reputations like bruce bowen got dragged over the coals 4 acts of such thuggery???.......and lets not forget the adolescent behaviour he instigated and engaged in with lebron mocking nowitzkis illness in the finals 2 years back, which also speaks to the mans true character and how petty he can be and how low he will stoop.
looking at the footage of george incident one cant say conclusively but i personally believe he neednt have driven the knee in that exact direction and fallen that way,but it was easy enuff to do so and have it come off as accidental.yes it happened at speed but i feel he definitely had time to avert the manner in which his leg was heading and a decent human beings natural instinct will normally take over wen they are about to put the skull of another person at risk with their own limbs.....and of course wade added the nice touch of clutching at his own "ailment" to draw the sympathy vote and deflect any blame for deliberate action.....of course he went on to be totally unaffected by the knock and played a stellar part the rest of the way whilst his victim struggled.
just my take on it,but thats wat ya get wen youve got form and history...no more benefit of the doubt for wade

I have no plays for tonight...couldn't find value. I guess the best "value" would be Pacers +240 ml since these tams seem to alternate wins, but I can't pull the trigger on anything...Paul George should be good to go and Wade should be rested which I think means it should be a fantastic game to watch.
I'm going to take the money I would bet tonight and put it on the Spurs. Shocked they are the underdog.
