Is it because you now have one of the best big 3's in NBA history??
Or
Because nothing short of a championship will suffice (even for next year too?) and even if you do win, people will say, "Well look, it was like Durant took his talents to the Bay"?

Well, I have mixed feelings about all this. In general, I don't like the league getting watered down. It's nice to have at least 3-4 teams that can actually contend for a title. This Warrior team was home-grown for the most part, with their best players being complete overachievers, and that's what made them special (which is what I expressed in my initial write-up here). I really wanted to see them win back to back titles and shut all the critics up and live forever in basketball lore, instead of basketball infamy. Winning back to back titles with that team would have meant more to me as a fan than winning 2-3 more with Durant. In fact, if they had won, I'd be content to never see them win another game. That would have been one of the greatest NBA seasons of all time, not to mention one of the most exciting, with the Warriors going through the gauntlet and surviving.
That's why their loss ( or choke job) in the finals was so devastating. But, ironically enough, without that loss (not to mention coming back on OKC after being down 1-3) they would not have gotten in Durant. Here is a great article about all the things that had to happen for them to land Durant:
Objectively speaking, the Warriors had no choice but to go after Durant and break up the team that won 73 games. Paying Barnes over 20 mil a year (especially after his awful performance in the Finals) would have really tested that locker room, as he would have been the highest paid player on the team! Hence, offering Durant 25-27 mil to replace Barnes was a no brainer. Considering the crazy money that was being thrown around for 3rd rate players, this was an unbelievable deal. Of course, I'd like to see the team win and succeed, but I won't be as invested nor that impressed (if/when they win). The magic is gone, at least for me.

That article is amazing. I read Tim Kawakami often but that is his best work by far. It shows a deep intimate association with the Warriors that results in reporting that mainstream networks like ESPN couldn't even begin to sniff.
