Jordan wasn't a great defender his first years in the NBA either... but he became a great defender... Lebron isn't the same kind of defender as Kobe (1 on 1)... he is a disrupter... but it still doesn't change the fact that, given a level playing field, Lebron is the better all around player... he doesn't just drive to the hoop, he is better in several phases of the game...

Kobe first team all nba defense the LAST 3 YEARS, and all of a sudden, he's lost his defense. You sound ridiculous.
you keep talking about past years... i was under the impression we were debating who is the best player RIGHT NOW... and you go on and on about all these statistical measures (free throw shooting, 3-pt shooting), even though you said earlier said people use statistics to make their decision are idiots...
none of this matters much, because based on the irrational and emotional manner in which you argue, its impossible to believe you have any objectivity in your decision... from the very beginning i got the impression you are just a Lakers homer...
anyway, to me the decision is simple... any GM who has to create a team for 1 year (this year), and can start with any player he wants... is a complete idiot if he picks anybody other than Lebron... no way anybody could convince me otherwise... and i base my opinion solely on 30 years worth of playing and watching basketball with an intense passion and knowledge of the game...

Didn't know u guys were redoing the count. LeBron definately is more athletic and has been wowing the crowd offensively. Theres almost no way u can stop him from driving to the hoop. But Kobe is pure clutch, and his intensity on defense is as equal to his offense. And when your asking for a final shot of the game, Kobe can drive it in, take the final shot, or get fouled and make his free throws. Lebron at the end of the game, will win you the game with a final drive to the hoop with most likely a dunk or lay in. If i needed a final shot or to get fouled and make the free throws, i just wouldn't have as much confidence in this guy as i do in Kobe.

I like Lebron more, but definately Kobe Bryant, proven winner, even though Shaq was a big part. Lebron may not win a ring for the next 5 years, they may not even win the east until Garnett and Allen retire.
