One could argue that the running back position and offensive line is more valuable than the qb position in Jacksonville. You could prolly argue that in Dallas too. It’s different with every team. When you mention New England, they don’t run the type of system that relies on the running back as much as some other teams do. So they don’t pay that position. Just because they’ve been successful doesn’t mean the running back position as a whole reduces in value. There just isn’t a direct correlation in my opinion. The system there calls for quicker passes that substitute actual runs. So to make blanket statements that because it’s the “running back” position? That can’t be done.
Lastly, what I don’t understand is how a 26 year old, all pro running back who blocks, catches and runs isn’t a priority. Some people think Conner is the real deal but I can tell you already in two games, his missed assignments on blocking have cost the Steelers big time. Didn’t he fumble late in the Browns game when they were leading? What if the Steelers miss the playoffs by a game? Bell doesn’t fumble there and he probably makes the block on the guy who caused Ben to fumble as well. We can pick and choose what we want that determines games but these two situations are huge for me. Bell is missed and for those who don’t see that, you’ve never played nor have you coached. It’s clear when you turn on the tape, Bell, not anybody else on that team is the best player. What allows AB room to make all those catches? The running game. What do you hear every check say in playoff games. Are we able to run and are we able to stop the run. Teams have to stop the run FIRST and in doing so, safeties creep up thus giving AB his room. In my opinion, guys who touch the ball 5-10 times a game (receivers) shouldn’t be getting paid more than guys who not only can catch the ball like receivers, run and control the clock and protect the assets (q.b.) in the blocking schemes. I’m a die hard Pittsburgh fan but what they’ve done with Bell is a joke. He’s 26 and has prolly 4 or 5 good years ahead of him in that system. If I were Bell, I’d sit too. He owes that team nothing at this point and my hope is that he gets what he’s earned and that’s what he’s worth. A 5/70 million contract with basically 24 million guaranteed is not his worth. One could argue that the running back position and offensive line is more valuable than the qb position in Jacksonville. You could prolly argue that in Dallas too. It’s different with every team. When you mention New England, they don’t run the type of system that relies on the running back as much as some other teams do. So they don’t pay that position. Just because they’ve been successful doesn’t mean the running back position as a whole reduces in value. There just isn’t a direct correlation in my opinion. The system there calls for quicker passes that substitute actual runs. So to make blanket statements that because it’s the “running back” position? That can’t be done.
Lastly, what I don’t understand is how a 26 year old, all pro running back who blocks, catches and runs isn’t a priority. Some people think Conner is the real deal but I can tell you already in two games, his missed assignments on blocking have cost the Steelers big time. Didn’t he fumble late in the Browns game when they were leading? What if the Steelers miss the playoffs by a game? Bell doesn’t fumble there and he probably makes the block on the guy who caused Ben to fumble as well. We can pick and choose what we want that determines games but these two situations are huge for me. Bell is missed and for those who don’t see that, you’ve never played nor have you coached. It’s clear when you turn on the tape, Bell, not anybody else on that team is the best player. What allows AB room to make all those catches? The running game. What do you hear every check say in playoff games. Are we able to run and are we able to stop the run. Teams have to stop the run FIRST and in doing so, safeties creep up thus giving AB his room. In my opinion, guys who touch the ball 5-10 times a game (receivers) shouldn’t be getting paid more than guys who not only can catch the ball like receivers, run and control the clock and protect the assets (q.b.) in the blocking schemes. I’m a die hard Pittsburgh fan but what they’ve done with Bell is a joke. He’s 26 and has prolly 4 or 5 good years ahead of him in that system. If I were Bell, I’d sit too. He owes that team nothing at this point and my hope is that he gets what he’s earned and that’s what he’s worth. A 5/70 million contract with basically 24 million guaranteed is not his worth. People here really comparing this to letting Khalil Mack go No one is questioning Bells talent, its the position that is irrelevent. Do you think the Cowboys wish they drafted Jalen Ramsy over Elliot? Look what they have done tring to build there team around Zeke, nada. Romo should still be playing. You guys are acting as if the Steelers offense has been struggling when theyve put up 30 points twice, and the defense blew a two TD lead with 7 min left in the 4th.
That would be me.
My point is when you have the best player at a certain position who is a future HOF'er, you pay him.
As for the Cowboys, maybe someone who could play wr would help. I think they went 13 - 3 Zeke's first year but I could be wrong.....again.
As for the 30 points the Steelers put up twice let's remember that was against KC and TB, not defensive powerhouses. Also, the Steel Curtain just isn't the same without Shazier. The Steelers will win now now by putting up points and not by playing D this year. Maybe the best rb who is also a top 10 wr would help. Maybe.
As for the D letting Cleveland back, do you think Bell could've helped prevent that debacle?

Lev Bell is easily the best running back in the nfl... the Steelers are looking at the pats struggle and bens age and see their last opp here...they will pay him and they will go deep this year (imo of course)
