We can probably all agree that $70 million is a lot of money, but apparently, it wasn't enough to get to sign a new deal in Pittsburgh.
According , the made one final offer to Bell on Monday, just hours before the 's 4 p.m. ET deadline for teams to negotiate a new contract with their franchise player. The offer from the Steelers was worth a total of $70 million over five years (or $14 million per season). Although the offer would have given Bell the largest multi-year contract of any running back in the NFL, he turned it down, and one reason he likely did that, is because it was nowhere near his asking price, which was .
One other reason Bell might have turned the deal down is because it apparently wasn't loaded with any substantial guarantees. According 's Ian Rapoport, the contract included $33 million in guaranteed money, which was going to be paid out over the first two years.Rapoport also noted that the first three years of the deal would pay out $45 million (or $15 million per season), but didn't note if all of that money was guaranteed. As for the final two years of the deal, it seems that Bell had no guaranteed money. Of course, none of this matters now, since Bell didn't take the offer.
I would say 70 million was more than fair to pay a talented but selfish toxic presence on any team and the bum turned it down...this was an act from God on high. If he played for Belichik, he would have been gone years ago, probably after the second drug suspension.

The $70m was a team freindly deal because after year 2 nothing was guarenteed. It was in essence a 2 year, +/- $30m deal after which the team holds all the marlbles.
You said Belichik would've ditched him after the 2nd suspension but then takes on Josh Gordon and his baggage? Maybe you should rethink that statement....... just say'n

youre right for the most part achilles cant argue with you there. maybe steelers should have upped the guarantee money a little bit more(maybe 40 mil?) i know it wasnt as much as Gurley's but didnt know the exact figures but still there is a risk. we have already seen it with Garopolo and McKinnon and David Johnson last season.. they sign that big contract and boom a major injury happens, one year of wasted production and probably wont be the same player again next year. happens 70% of the time.
i know its a dickk move by the Steelers but it seems it may not be as much about the guaranteed money as it is Bell wanting upwards of 80 to 90 mil and be paid like reciever. in a perfect world he should its a shame but unfortunate because i think he does deserve a little more money than what Gurley is making based on seniority. if you are talking about production-wise Gurley will probably outproduce Bell by his 5th year compared to Bell in his 5th year.
with Bell's injury history though and the heavy usage over the years(i know he's only 26) it just wouldnt make sense financially for Steelers to sign him for the longterm. its hard to keep 3 superstars on a roster for as long as they have. in the end, Steelers will suffer but thats the chance they are willing to take to go with an unproven in James Connor.
its unfortunate for Bell, he played for the wrong team at the wrong time. if he were drafted by the Rams he wouldve had thr massive contract that he wanted.
Sip on that plus money honey!

Guys that know football understands RB isn’t important in today’s NFL
You make me laugh daily. Thanks.
clown - have New England even pay a RB 5 million a year in there 5 super bowl Run? Smart teams invest money into O-line and pass rusher - not pay a RB 14 million a year

Bell is the nfls version of isiah thomas...another back up the brink truck fool...amazing how these guys arrogantly say no to millions of dollars when a decade ago god only knows what they would have done for 1% of this type of money...sure hes good and theres value precedent for the guy, but what team would now want to sign up for a guy whos clearly looking for a payday based on past performance? Its not a given, but whatever foolish owner that brings this guy into their teams lockerroom will be getting another Marshon Lynch cancer whos best days are behind him...also, what Bell doesnt understand (and most of the sheep too), is that his #s are completely inflated due to the team, qb, oc, and general offensive structure of play Pittsburgh employs...the moment he finds himself on any other team not qbd by Big Ben along with a slew of talented wrs, his #s will be mediocre at best.
I personally love seeing holdouts missout on millions...every passing paycheck he scoffs at makes him closer to being Allen Iverson broke.

Belichik signed Gordon for peanuts like he does for all of these troubled prima donnas. He and his staff told Gordon about the Patriot way and what they expect from him. You can bet that if Josh Gordon strays and pulls any crap at all, he will be sent packing.
Bell's situation is a bit different though what both have in common is an utter disregard for the team concept. Besides, Bell even with his baggage was offered a lucrative 70 million dollar contract and he turned it down...so be it. I bet that whatever dumbhead owner decides to sign him will end up regretting it. It won't be New England til he hits the skids like Gordon.

Did Bell really reject 70 million as a running back in the nfl where your always just one play away from a career ending injury? Dear lord
I enjoy seeing Bell pass on 800 K+ for each and every game too. Partying on South Beach is not the kind of activity other owners appreciate. There must be one knucklehead owner out there though that will kiss his patooty.

Only takes 1 team to pay bell - he knows it? And he doesn’t care if that team goes 1-15 - - all about the money -
I know...and thats why i would have new found respect for this league and their owners if they all decided to blacklist him and no one makes him an offer...that would be something worthy of sports talk radio...could you just see it? Stephen A Smith would completely lose his mind and go throw eggs at the white house and find a way to blame trump...thats what im talking about

PB I think packers should trade for him- take some pressure off Rodgers- not sure how he can learn the playbook in a short time tho ? of course it will be a rental for this season - packers rarely pay RB

The draft is littered with potential players year after year at the running back position...theres absolutely no need to ever trade for one unless his name was Barry Sanders

PB not many RB can RUN/Catch/block - IMO- he’s worth a 4th and 5th round pick or just a 2nd round pick - definitely not a 1st round- Most likely he would play 1/2 a season

A couple mill more guarenteed and the Steelers have another HOF'er inducted. I wonder what colors Le'Veon will be wearing?
Same would've held true for the Raiders. Now it's just another Bear linebacker going in.
To me, that's ownership cheaping out at the detrament of the loyal fan base that deserves these type of players for most/all of the careers and the HOF ceremony.

I love how guys never give credit to the O-Line and the guy throwing the ball - there’s a reason successful teams like New England and Pittsburgh don’t overpaid for RB

See how stupid that sounds? I never said Bell does this on his own. Of course coaching, other players, game script always plays a role in anyone's success. Would he be successful playing for the Jets, Colts or fill-in-the-blanks? Not at current levels with those dogs . What about the Pats or Pack, not 2 of the best o-lines in the league? KC?
You just won't consider he is the top dog with everything he brings to the table. 400 touches, top rb, top 10 wr, can pass protect, etc.

I have already said Bell is the best RB in the NFL-
let’s see he plays with 3 pro bowl on the O-line and one of the most fear passing attack in the nfl? Something that I mention 1000x-he would not have this kinda success on over 20 plus teams in the NFL -
