Now that the immediate ire and disgust has faded slightly, and a clearer head is available, I reckon this game will go down as a watershed moment in the history of the League. No matter how hard the NFL and Goodell will try to fade it from our memories.
People have cried "FIX!" or "RIGGED!" for decades and while some believe, a lot of people roll their eyes and shake their head.
Now we have a game in which "MANIPULATION" was clear and evident beyond any shadow of a doubt.
Inarguable. As plain as day. Clear as the sun.
I did have any money on this game. Just hoped for a good, clean game. But now we know, even those of us who knew of the "manipulation" of games beforehand, that this NFL of today is willing to do anything, in any way, even if that means a blatant and obvious manipulation on live national television to influence outcomes.
This makes today's game unforgettable.
A game like none other in NFL history.
And one none of us who saw it will ever forget.
And even though it is just a petty sporting event, a petty sporting league, is is sad and disappointing that the most popular sport in America has fallen to this.

The year after the Ravens won the Super Bowl, the Lions got robbed at Carolina. This was before instant replay. The Lions TE got a TD pass in the back corner of the endzone at the end of the game and was clearly IN.
The refs ruled him out of bounds. It wasn't even close to being out of bounds.
That Tuesday night, I got a call from one of my friends who worked as a clerk in the NY NFL Office. He said the office was abuzz after the Tuesday referee meetings. He said bet the Lions this week. I told him they are playing against the Super Bowl Ravens as 13-point dogs! He said, screw the points, take them straight-up.
I laughed at him and did not follow his advice.
He told me that the refs has been instructed to make it up to the Lions by flagging every ticky-tack penalty on the Ravens. He said the Ravens will be badgered all game.
I didn't believe him.
Well, not only did the Lions WIN the game versus the Ravens, but the Ravens set the NFL record for most penalties/penalty yards!!!
It was from then I believed in manipulation.

What about the " Tuck rule " that nobody ever heard of to put the N.E. Patties in Super Bowl instead of the dreaded Al Davis Raiders . That's gotta rate close if not even more blatant .

The talking heads on espn ,fox nflnetwork, etc. know full well better than to fan the flames. Bad enough the commentators and mike pereria made it known they have never seen a flag like that picked up. Hope the packers destroy the cowpossys

Let's just "say" the games are manipulated, as you say. They aren't, but for the sake of argument, let's just say you're correct.
Unless you know which team each game is fixed towards, it doesn't make any bit of difference now does it? Sometimes the "fix" will go your way and sometimes it will go the other way. It will all even out in the end.
You conspiracy theory guys kill me. You really do. You see a bad call and you immediately say, "FIX!"

Exactly, before the tuck play, there was no such thing word in football as a tuck.If your arm was moving forward,it was an imcomplete pass,if your arm wasnt moving forward,it was a fumble, plain and simple, nothing on rule book about if ball is tucked back into your body.If you have to change the rulebook the next year,to accomadate for a call, that was made the year before, then you aint playing by the rules, that are in the rule book.Thats like when you were a kid playing a game, and the other guy is making up the rules,as you go along. You can never win one of those games, cause the rules keep changing in his favor, and basically that's fixing the outcome of the completion, which is the definition of something being rigged.

I am not one of them.
I didn't say the games are fixed, I said they are manipulated.
The NFL meets with every referee and crew on Tuesday on game week and tells them how to officiate the game and each team for the game that they are covering.
Hence by Ravens v. Lions story years ago.
It was clear that the referees took over in the 4th Quarter when it became apparent that the Lions were close to going up two scores late.
Not fixed. No outcome is predetermined. Manipulated. Coerced. Pushed along. If the Lions would have come back and driven for a GW-TD, then it would have happened. But the odds were purposely stacked against them.

SB50 between Steelers and Seahawks another great example of manipulation.

Can someone outline what happened for us who didn't see the game?
Dallas tackled Brandon Pettigrew late in the 4th Q with detroit up 3 on the Dal 25 and the refs called the obvious PI. Dez then ran on the field with his helmet off (another 15 yarder) screaming at the ref. They announced PI 1st down Detroit, then proceeded to walk back 25 yards, say its 4th down no penalty and gave no explanation what was happening.

People wouldn't gamble on something that somebody else rigged,do you bet on professional wrestling,go ahead bet on it,cause like you said, sometimes the fix will go your way and sometimes it wont.

At least now those who believe in game manipulation will have the smoking gun example to point to.
This didn't exist before today.
Did you not Catch Monday Night Packers vs Seahawks Fail Mary Game in 2012 with the replacement refs. No way Cowboys/Lions Game was more offensive the calls made in that game.

I never talk about bad call or good call because refs are human.
Human will makes mistake but to change the call after announcement PI that is not right.
Can you explain that?
Remember I never believe the games are fixed but until today.

And with this gb-sea game,if I remember correctly, this play at the end of the game, directly affected the spread and the over/under,all on that last play. And I know exactly what your talking about headover, every time seattle made a good play in that superbowl with pittsburgh, their was a penalty called on them.Especiailly on a td pass ,to I believe Jeremy stephens, there was a late sudden holding call to negate the td.Just a brutally officiated game.I also think pitts got a couple questionable calls in the divisional game that year vs the colts,a troy palamleu interception.

A "bad call" is not at all what happened there. With what you typed it is no shock that's all you were able to grasp from everything that went on in that unfathomable and nonsensical sequence of events that favoured the Cowboys. I bet on the Under for the game so what happened only helped me, but if you can't see anything wrong with all of that, I feel for you, I sincerely do. Enjoy the bubble you live in.

Football would be a dead sport if it wasn't for gambling. This includes the thousands of pools that take place every week.Millions of people participate in these pools including woman. These are the people who watch these games.Since tv advertising pays the big bucks these pools are what is important.Without people watching the money won't come in.I'm in a few pools myself and make personal bets.I had Detroit but that's not the point.Next week or next year I may get screwed. The state of Michigan's economy is in the toilet. If they won maybe it would give the state a little financial shot in the arm and give people up there some fun in their life. This was taken away by the owners who wanted Dallas to win so they could make a few more bucks. This is typical huge corporation greed which destroyed this country. I'm seriously considering not watching football next year. What does this mean? Well,I won't be watching the advertising on tv,or reading the advertising in the papers or on the internet, etc. As I'm writing this I see an adverisement on the bottom of this page.So if I don't bet next year or particpate in the pools I won't be on this site ,etc. The greed will slowly destroy this sport.

As for gambling on fixed contests it happens every day . W.C. Fields famous quote about a sucker being born every day . Try betting on Horse racing . How do you think the bettors would react if they found out the horse that won the race failed the piss test an hour after the race but all pari-mutuels were already paid out to , as Michael Irvin calls them , criminal enterprises . The poor trainer has to take the hit or get hit .

Of course he don't see anything wrong with it,this way you don't have to waste time handicapping games, all you gotta do is pick a team, and just hope your on the right side of the fix.Im sure when he hits the casino,he plays the slots, cause he don't want to try and figure out the best way to win,hes gonna sit and wait till the gambling gods, let him have a little back, of the money he lost. And he is ok with that.Hey Mr. Collins,i want to gamble with you, pick a number from 1 to 10,and I promise if you get it right I will tell you, eventually I will let you win a couple,i promise.
