I dunno man, the Over/Under on the Niners-Jets game was 40.5, the final score was 34-0. But Colin Kaepernick did a baseball slide on the 3 yard line instead of walking in for a touchdown which with the 99.9% chance of making the extra point would have gotten the over. 

But then again, I understand why he would decline the penalty as well.

Niners win either way.  Declining the safety limits the physical contact your players have to make.  Healthy teams win games.

Post # 10 has it right.... it was more about avoiding an injury on the return than anything. no point in playing another play when you can just take a knee and go home

Idiot TS. You can't onside the punt after a safety.  Niners get the ball back if they just let the ball drop from that punt and not have anyone near it.  They go up 2 scores, hence eliminating a botched kneel down hurting them.  That move was idiotic, no genius at all.

for the guy who made the original post... i agree 100%... this is understanding game management!


for the guy who made the second post... you recover an onside punt when the other team fumbles it... and if i'm not mistaken, even though it is a safety kickoff, it is still like a kickoff, in the sense that the receiving team has to field it... you can't just let the other team down it like a punt...

i might be wrong there, but i don't think so...

None of this shit matters.. the replay showed the reciever got the first down.. They didn't reverse it.. Notice nobody knew about the penalty until 30 secs later.. they were like dude why did you throw that flag?

listen, not saying you are wrong, but there is always a chance of fumbling the snap its not .0001 to 0%. I agree with what you're saying. there is minimal risk in both scenarios. the game just ends quicker and is slightly safer in declining the penalty.

Again, decline, take a knee, and win.  Done.
Accept, and you give Seattle a chance to recover and gain possession of the ball again.

It's a no-brainer gentleman.

I had parlay 3 and waiting for SF-7.  I did not like it but he did the smart thing not taking a safety.

I didnt bet Niners but all these "injury prevention" talks are also BS because guess what, you can fair catch the safety punt. I would much rather go into victory formation with 9 points compared to 7 points just in case a fumble DOES indeed happen. GG for the fixed game

Why do you guys even post here if you don't know the basic rules of the game?

Of course after a safety you kick from the 20 and the kick can either be punted, drop kicked or kicked normally without the benefit of a tee.

Yes, you can onside a kick after a safety.

They measured the original spot on the field.. then they replayed it but never remeasured.. they knew the game was over either way so they didn't take it seriously

I think the last play clearly resulted in a first down.

SF should have easily covered this game, but other than 1 drive Smith is reverting back to his old form. I hope by not taking the 2 points bites SF in the ass in some tie breaker scenario at the end of the year.
