You have THE BEST running back in the NFL at the 1 .. you run it on ALL 3 downs, if you get stuffed from the 1 in that situation you live with it. Under NO circumstances do you even think about passing (especially a slant across the middle. Period.
If they ran after the TO they would need a hurry up and chances are something will go wrong. In that situation they had either 1 pass and 2 runs, or 1 run and 2 passes. There wasn't enough time to run it 3 straight.
The pass was a good call becasue everyone thought a run was coming. The pass was not thrown correctly. Like Kap throwing the fade short Wilson the the slant too high. if that ball is 2 or 3 feet lower and the WR is falling it's either caught or incomplete or the WR kicks the ball in th air (highly unlikely).
There was nothing wrong with the play call, it was the execution of the play. IMO I would have given Rus a play action boot leg to the far side. If the D catches him he can throw it away and save the TO. IMO that leaves the most possibilities open for that play and the following, if needed.
