Last weekend I thought Houston players would rise up to beat the Colts after DeAndre Hopkins donated money to a girl killed by a drive-by shooter. This week we get a Chargers player's daughter passing through natural causes. A teammate's daughter is much closer to the team than an ordinary resident, so maybe the Chargers players will play hard. I think Mebane should play. Grieving over his child's death is important, but he shouldn't abandon his teammates in an important game like this after missing one already. If he does, he will provide big boost to the defensive side of the ball. I am a little concerned with the Chargers. They made five field goals in their last game, and you know what that means.

And he covered the spread, don't forget that part.He went 3-0 ATS in the playoffs that year. Right but the title of the thread was 'has Rivers ever won a big title game'...big to me means meaningful as against a top drawer team or as in a conference championship game and the answer is no, he hasn't. I am not convinced he will this Sunday either. Rivers had a better team in the 2006 season with Tomlinson and a younger Antonio Gates, Michael Turner, Lorenzo Neal et. al. and lost in San Diego. He was 14 of 32 for 230 yards 1 interception, 1 fumble lost and 0 tds. Rivers is 0-7 against Brady so for you guys who believe in revenge, isn't this a worthy spot for it to happen? Yeah, good luck with that revenge theory...old Tom isn't ready for the glue factory just yet.
His first season as a starter (14-2). Where Marlon Mccree intercepted Brady on a 4th down only to be stripped to give it back to NE. Marty was fired after that season.
Yeah, I remember that game clearly (January of 2007)...the Charger DB only needed to bat the ball down on 4th down and the Chargers would have got the ball at midfield with the lead and only a few minutes left. Oh but no, he had to make the intercept on the sideline and run it back towards the middle of the field where it was stripped and recovered by the Pats. That was one of the toughest beats that a team can have.
Spanos did fire Schottenheimer because he and the GM A.J. Smith didn't get along. Marty in fact wanted to keep Brees in spite of the injury but Smith nixed the idea and pushed Rivers on him. Also, Spanos mentioned in his firing statement the loss of coaching staff as some sort of proof of instability, hell two of them were offered head coaching jobs (Cam Cameron and Wade Phillips). Spanos was/is a gutless worm and a liar.
Then the Chargers hired Norv Turner to replace Schottenheimer and he took the franchise down the toilet. Tomlinson's heart was ripped out when Marty left. Schottenheimer wanted to hire one of his sons to his coaching staff and A.J. Smith who polished Spanos' knob daily nixed that idea also.
Schottenheimer never got another head coaching job in the NFL again, I think Spanos blacklisted him...Marty might not have ever won the big one but he sure could game plan on defense and he was a great head coach IMO.

Norv got them 2 playoff wins the following season (losing to the undefeated Pats, see my other post about that game) Then 1 win the next year, then out in first game year after that, then no playoff appearances until McCoy took over. Declining every year under Norv.
McCoy's team got in his first year and they won on the road in Cincy. Then nothing until Lynn took over.
I just don't blame Rivers for the front office and poor coaching he has had to overcome.

Chargers had better teams and couldn’t beat New England - belichick ain’t losing 2 a QB he owns 7-0 with a week rest and at home - this is when the patriots turn up- in the playoffs

My friend Owen told me never ever bet on a team or quarterback who is owen seven vs their opponent. Brady 7 Rivers 0 patriots ml all night long. In fact all the home teams should win this weekend. GL
except I bet the Eagles ml and it only took me 1.75 hours to get through the line at Twin Rivers this time around!

All you ever hear is Big Ben has 2 rings, Eli has 2 and Rivers (the other Hall of Famer) so unlucky never to have won one but what's this guy ever done in the postseason to warrant Hall of Fame status?
