Yeah they might have just taken a knee, but the injury happened which caused the clock too stop and ATL had 1 timeout left, so that was two stoppage's, thats why they needed the first down
didn't need it before the injury. i think they kept running the ball a few years ago when philly came to town and lost.

So Peyton called 3 plays up the gut with Bell and he thought he could get a first down that way? With Atlanta stuffing the box, playing the run? Ya know what, just those play calls alone says alot.

Unless you're really trying to get a first down, what's the difference, if you take a knee or run into the pile? It looked like the Saints were just going through the motions and Atlanta was stacked at the line waiting for the run. They weren't going to completely run out the clock either way and it may of ended up getting one of the Saints linemen hurt! Why take a chance with the ball and injuries when the results are the same? I had the Saints +11.5, so I was already getting the big

If the Saints were so determined to get a first down, why were they just running the ball up the gut with Bell? They were clearly just trying to just burn the time up, at which point proves that a knee for 3 straight attempts in this situation is much safer then 3 runs up the gut. If N.O. was so determined to get a first down to end the game then they should have thrown the ball, which they did with ease all game long.
its awesome to see somebody that actually understands the game Saints were not trying to get a first down off those play calls.
If the saints take a knee, the player more then likely doesnt get hurt and then they would have been able to run the clock all the way down to 9 seconds. There would have been no risk of a fumble and giving the ball back to the falcons with time on the clock and a chance to tie the game, which almost could have happened last night.
That would have been my play calling, because if the other team could score 2 times in 9 seconds, then my team deserves to lose.
You saw corruption at work in the nfl last night, no doubt about it.
All the coaches on the sidelines and nobody can figure oyt taking a knee is the safest route and best way to use up the clock? No way

Yeah, that pick 6 was blatantly obvious the LB ran over the WR before the ball got into that area, and then the phantom Def Holding on 3rd & 5 to extend the final TD drive of the game.

I had Atlanta +11.5, so I didn't really care what happened at the end there, unless there was a pick 6 or something like that. I was just stating what a smart coach would have done in this situation. Sometimes common sense is better then your x's and o's logic.

yeah sucks for NO backers, it was kinda right at that point in the game where it could go either way. I had ATL +18 under 63 and won the bet, but wow it took like a half hour to watch the last 60seconds of the game and I was nervous the whole time.....Love it

I agree with you cd329. I was surprised to see them run instead of taking the knee. Teams DO take a knee even if it doesn't run out the clock.
Sean Peyton will take the knee the next time in those situations. So will some other "smart" coaches who watched that game.
And what about the situation where you are tied and have no timeouts left and letting a team score a TD is the smart thing to do so that you at least have a chance to come back and tie it and send it into OT rather than letting them run the clock down to kick a FG at the last second?
Maybe it looks bad, but it is really your only chance if it is just a chip shot FG. Sure you can try and strip it once, but you have a better chance trying to match their TD if there is a minute and a half left and you have no timeouts.
Yeah, 4th and short on your opponents 35-40 and you punt is not good value either.

If the Saints were playing for a 1st down they would fucking pass, that's what they do best. Payton knows he should of kneeled and punted, what a fucking joke to say he was running for a 1st down ! No starting center now, I might have lost my bet, but at least this team won't win HF through the playoffs now ! Fuck you Sean Payton !

jdm- 27-35. Lots of saints backers got moosed by Bell's fumble with less than 2 min to go, thus....argument ensues about clock management.
bling is right. No team kneels 3 times unless it winds the clock to :00. cd329- Find me an instance where a team has knelt 3 times and punted and I will admit I am wrong, but I don't think you can.
Sorry you got moosed and had NO at -10, I'd be pissed too, but running the ball in that situation is the industry standard
