Cool story
As good as Darnold has been this season, if he has another showing in LA like the one last night in Detroit, will they be thinking about moving on from him? They might make the mistake of counting on JJ McCarthy in 2025.
Or might Aaron Rodgers want to make a stop in Minnie like his state defrauding predecessor Brett Favre? That's another trap. Rodgers is basically a corpse at this point.

JJ is extremely talented and has a high football IQ.
As a Lions fan I would just love to see Minnesota roll with Darnold & trade JJ somewhere else.
The Lions D isn’t as good as Darnold made them look, Darnold is just a bad QB on a very good offensive team. The number of wide open throws he missed last night is comical.
I would/will be all over Vikes 2025 futures when the decision is made to move on from Darnold and give the keys to JJ.

The obvious play is to trade Darnold while his stock is at a peak. Minny drafted JJ for a reason, could be a blessing he was "forced" to sit out his rookie year and watch how a winning team operates.
I agree though, Franchise Tag Darnold and trade him at the deadline. By then, he'll revert to the mean and the Vikes may not get more than a mid to low rounder for him but it would keep the fan base from going berserk in the offseason.
When the Vikes start 2-5 next season, they'll support a trade.

Idea mich didn’t need him to be the prototypical qb but I also have to think if he was that guy then he wouldn’t have been held back. harbaugh isn’t holding herbert back

I disagree but I do appreciate your conviction. I'm guessing you've seen a lot more of McCarthy than me. But from what I saw off him at Michigan, I didn't think he elevated that team - but that's based on a small sample. We'll see if you're correct.
Talking about Darnold's performance last night, what was even worse than missing high on those passes were the throws he didn't make. He missed wide open receivers on at least three key plays that I saw. It's likely there were a few more. But personally I still wouldn't call him a "bad QB" at this point
