One of the greatest myths of football betting is that snow will cause an under. The fact is, wind, and rain, especially cold and rainy conditions, will make scoring tougher. The Bills beat the Raiders 51-3 in the 1990-91 AFC champ game, and it was snowing.
I disagree that snow has no effect on scoring. Just because you can cite exeptions to the rule does not mean that snow games tend to score lower. I agree wind really can be a bigger factor, and it does not appear to be overly windy tonight.
There's also different types of snow. A dry snow can just add a visual element to the game and not change scoring at all. But a wet snow / rain mix can stop a game in its tracks, making it really hard to throw, catch, or hold on to the ball.
I agree that a kneejerk reaction of snow = under is not wise. But to say it is a myth is just as unwise. I use weather tracking as a great way to bet late in the year, and it works well if done wisely. Trick is getting the real deal before the lines dip too low. But often a point or two makes no difference for truly low scoring affairs.
I'm staying away from the under tonight, even though it is certainly possible. But it worked great yesterday for the Pitt-SD game.
