Well... Big Ben wont get his 3rd ring this year.
Reading the comments made in this thread make me laugh. The year has ended, and my team is not even in the playoffs. It's the 13th time a SB champion has not made the playoffs the following year. So it happens 30.2% of the time to date. Roughly a third of the time.
The Steelers D had it's problems this year, as did their special teams. If Burnett catches the interception (the one that my 2 year old niece could have caught) late in the Raiders game, the Steelers probably go to the playoffs. If, if, if...
In this thread Ben has been called good, average, respectable... However, it is no fault of his that they went 9-7 and missed the playoffs. His 288.5 yds/game is third in the NFL. His 66.6% completion percentage was 5th. His 100.5 passer rating was 5th in the league. His interception percentage was 2.37. And that's pretty damn good. He threw for more yards than Favre, Rivers, and Warner. He threw for just 60 less yards than Brees. Seventy less than Brady. His numbers compare with Brady and Manning this year, and by that I mean they are every bit as impressive. Not in the neighborhood or in the ballpark. They are every bit as good, and in some catagories, better.
So he again proved this year that he is not good or average, but far better. To say he is average is equivalent to saying Brady is average. It's equivalent to saying Manning is average.
Of course the Steelers' five game losing skid had alot to do with their not making the playoffs. The losses came by 3, 3, 3, 6, and 7 points. My point is they could have easily made the playoffs had things gone just a little different. Again, as his numbers this year indicate, is was no fault of Ben's. He was voted their team MVP, but with any good quarterback, you need support. Their defense on paper looks pretty good, but in the 4th quarter they were horrid, and I believe they LED THE LEAGUE in points allowed in that quarter. The Chargers won the AFC West last year going 8-8. The Steelers weren't that lucky this year.
So has he been carried by the defense in the past? No. His numbers this year are as strong as nearly anyone in the league. They're not competing for a SB title because their team wasn't quite good enough to win 10 games. There may not be another QB in the league that could have carried this team to the playoffs. But next year, I'm sure they'll be back.
So the whole point of this rant is merely to say that calling Ben "average" or "respectable" is simply ridiculous. And this will be the last time I post anything on this subject. Because in all reality (and I mean no disrespect to anyone by saying this), you can only tell a child so many times that 2 x 3 is not 5.
Take a look at the list of the all time leaders in QB rating. You'll never, and I mean never, guess who is number 1. Keep in mind this wont change for another 8 months or so.

Good luck to all. I hope you make a ton of money off these playoff games. As always, they'll be fun to watch.

He should be glad he won 2. With Tomlin as Head Coach he won't win another one.

beg to differ his defense gave up a 50 yard go ahead td with less tha 3 minutes left in the game -- he then went out from his own 20 and threw for a 1st down only to have it called back on a penalty marked off halfway back to his own goal line where he then extended a play running parallel to the line of scrimmage completed a pass for another 1st down and as they say the rest is History -- Super Bowl History
