An unnamed Champions League fixture in England is one of 380 matches across the continent investigators believe was fixed by an Asia-based crime syndicate, along with World Cup and European Championship qualifiers and "several top football matches in European leagues".
Rob Wainwright, director of Europol - the European Union's law enforcement agency, said at a press conference in The Hague: "This is the work of a suspected organised crime syndicate based in Asia and operated with criminal networks around Europe.
"It is clear to us this is the biggest-ever investigation into suspected match-fixing in Europe. It has yielded major results which we think have uncovered a big problem for the integrity of football in Europe.
"We have uncovered an extensive criminal network."
Wainwright revealed the scale of the corruption in Germany where £13.8 million was wagered on matches in the country with payments of £1.73m believed to have paid to those involved.
Overall, Europol claim match-fixing had taken place in 15 countries with 50 people arrested to date.
Wainwright would not reveal the identity of the Champions League match staged in the UK under suspicion due to "ongoing judicial proceedings" - he did confirm it had taken place in the last three to four years - and admitted it was not a country under particular scrutiny.
He added: "The focus has been on other countries, not the United Kingdom. However we were surprised by the scale generally of the criminal enterprise and just how widespread it was.
"It would be naive and complacent of those in the UK to think such a criminal conspiracy does not involve the English game and all the football in Europe."
A UEFA spokesman confirmed they would co-operate with the investigation.
"UEFA is aware of the statements made by Europol regarding the alleged match-fixing that has taken place in various football competitions and expects to receive further information in the coming days," the organisation said.
"As part of the fight against the manipulation of matches, UEFA is already co-operating with the authorities on these serious matters as part of its zero-tolerance policy towards match-fixing in our sport.
"Once the details of these investigations are in UEFA's hands, then they will be reviewed by the appropriate disciplinary bodies in order that the necessary measures are taken."

Man listen. The nfl is not a sport like we think. It is a business and that business is entertainment. It is 100% legal for them to fix their own games. Its no different than WWE as far as laws and regulations. The players get paid the same weather they win or lose. Their salaries depend on the league success. In superbowl 49 both teams were seen practicing the final interception on the 1. Malcolm butler said "I had a vision about that play" I bet he did. Pete carrol passing on the 1, cam not going for the fumble, atlanta running shotguns not once but twice to lose 22 yards and out of fg range. No coaches are that dumb. The teams dont practice together but they both practice the plays. All coaches and refs have headsets and whatever is called is what is ran. I personally dont want people to wake up because it will hurt the sports betting market. Big ben throws 5 picks so all the sheep bet big on KC and what do you know. In fact the casinos won 12 of 13 games this week. And for dr asking about cracking a code, do you think the WWE is real? Well then you must know whos going to win the royal rumble since you cracked the code of it being fake. 5 dimes has wrestling lines so send me those pics asap thx

One must look at the big picture..........First their is no way the players are following a "script"...........Loose ips would have sunk that ship a long time ago.......
Next, rarely does anybody cry fixed in a 31-10 type game without an emotional ending...........If that N.O. safety missedthat tackle in the 1st QTR and MINNY still wins by 6 you would not hear nearly as much about the game being rigged.
Look at risk vs reward - why would the NFL and Vegas risk plotting a fixed outcome when they already make 100's of millions of $$$..........If it came out games were fixed than you would see a huge drop in wagering and viwership.
If there is a fixed NFL game it would be a lone crooked ref and they could not develop a pattern so it would not be a regular occurence.
Most people who think games are fixed cannot how......You never get a well thought out arguement.
I hear you and respect you D.U. but if word is getting out to the streets and locals about upcoming "fixed" games then their are a lot of people who are involved and I just dont see it.
