Saints might have an edge in special teams, but they don't have an edge anywhere else... this line is where it is because the AFC is completely dominant over the NFC this year, and because the Colts are quite a bit better than the Saints... in fact, it is lower than it should be, because most people buy into the Saints, and think this game should be close to a pick em...

think about it... from a purely capping standpoint... don't you think the books would have made the line (-3) or kept it at (-3.5) if they really believed this was close to a pick'em, knowing that the majority of people buy into the Saints hype, and don't realize there is that big of a disparity between the conferences?

if the books posted the line higher than you think it should be... then the real line should be EVEN HIGHER...

Colts have faced only three good QBs all year:

Matt Schaub - 31/42 284 yards 2/2  87.8 rating

 

Considering Mat Schaub is still only considered above average, the Colts shouldn't be laying -6 to a 15-3 team with a great QB in Brees.  The Saints will not play it conservative against the Colts.

 

Besides the other douchebaggery statements, what info do you have that says the AFC was stronger than the NFC in 2009?  It seems to me, the AFC definetly had a down year this year.  Just compare the playoff teams of both conferences.  Was like night and day.  Seems defintely the year that marked a return of NFC supremacy.  I think the Super Bowl will prove this to be the case.

Saints were 4-0 against the AFC this year.

Watched the Vikings-Saints for the second time....Saints looked brutal.  They are normally beasts at home.  Cannot see N.O on the road in their white away jerseys winning this game....they just will not be able to stop that indy train...Balt and Jets could not rattle Manning...u think N.O. can?...please!!!....N.O. won their superbowl...Horses 34-20 victors!

If those stats are correct, the only thing jumping out is the fact they all went a combine 8/7 TD to INT ratio...
Also, just checked and Matt Schaub made the pro bowl this year, so unless making it to the pro bowl is just above average....

Perhaps you missed the point, but all of the decent to great Qbs I listed had decent to great days against the Colts except Warner. Brady smoked them.

I like NO but in no way is this a great game to bet on other than this is the SB. I am absolutely going to put a below average wager on this. Indy looks great and Peyton is going to be elected President, so I am also influenced by all this. I do think we get another great game like the Giants two years ago and the Cards last year and I think I will have some more fun on props.

I thought Brees played his worst game of the season... I think he felt a lot of pressure (aside from the Vikings D) trying to deliver the Saints to a point they have never been. I think the pressure is clearly off of the Saints and on Peyton Manning to cement his legacy among the all time great QB's. Besides being a homer and wanting to see the Saints win I like playing the team who can play loose in this situation. 

I think the offenses will make plays against each others defense and it will come down to turnovers and special teams. Still not sure if I am going to make a play to hedge my Saints future... starting to warm up to idea of letting it ride again.

Simon- I like Manning a lot and believe he has placed himself in a very elite class of QB's in NFL history  But if you look at the big picture aside from the 4-0 run to the Superbowl he has had his fair share of woes in the big spots.

BUSTIN---not too many woes since he's had a complete team behind him.  I'm not a big Peyton fan, he cost me a ton at TENN...one of those guys that kill ya if ya bet against him, and one of those guys that throws a late INT when you're on him!  But point blank, he's in a class of his own.  I'd like to see a tight game, but honestly... I can see him dissecting this defense...controlling the tempo anyway he wants...I just don't see many match-ups favoring N.O.

And Brees...great year, yep.  But the guy's never shown up for a BIG game.  This is his shot to prove himself.  You and I both know that stats are for losers...we'll see what he does here.  Maybe I'm wrong, but just don't think he's quite ready to be compared with the great ones...and think one day (if not already!), Manning's one of 'em...

This has to the dumbest thread I've read in awhile. Not once did anyone produce any real facts.

First, comparing a QB over his previous achievements is just stupid. Every year you have to reset the playing field. There are just too many factors that go into winning games to do anything else. With that said......

Manning passed for 4500 yards and 33 touchdowns and an average of 281 yards per game. This gave him a QB rating of 99.9

Brees passed for 4388 and 34 touchdowns and an average of 292 yards per game. That gives him a QB rating of 109.6.

What does this mean. Simple, they are a close match.

Both of these teams had controversial losses late in the year which might raise some red flags for some, but for me all it says it that both teams were tired and were riddled with injuries.

All the way around both teams match up well. Colts have the edge on defense, but its slight.

This game is going to be close Saints can stay with Colts and they could surprise them which is why I like the 1st QTR.

I expect to see the line favor the Colts -3 maybe 2. I will take the Saints. If you have watched the Colts this year like I have, you would have noticed that Manning wants to see the blitz. He knows he has talented TE and RECEIVERS and will keep pace in the first half and hope the Saints show there blitz, they will adjust and Manning will step into the pocket and find targets to pull ahead in late in the game. SOUND FAMILIAR? It should, he has done it all year long. When you find something that works......stick with it!

Most SuperBowls I don't bet because its so hard to find the edge, but this year it's simple. Sean Peyton is the X factor. He likes to shake things up and you can bet he will have some surprise plays.

Lastly, I have no emotion on either side. I like both teams and both QB's. I like both D's and both coaches. THIS IS A GOOD MATCHUP. It's been awhile since we've had the 2 best teams in the league play for the title.

if this year has taught u anything  its that trends and what has happened in the past means nothing.  Saying no team coveres 6 points in SB s is a reason to take the Saints is totally ridiculas.

This year they told us how Coboys dont in in DEc, (they had the best Dec. in years) they told us they couldnt win a big game ,(they beat NO at home,they one a playoff game,) They told us no teams gonna beat the Eagles 3 times in 1 year ,(that was proven wrong) They told us the Pats never lose in playoffs at home 8-0( remember they were on the golf course before anyone) They said the Jets at 7-7 will never make the playoffs( they only played for the AFC championship)

If you want to compare the 2 teams honestly u ould pick the colts by 10.Last week everyone said how the Colts wouldnt cover 8.5 and the did. Jets D is better than the Saints ,Colts O line is been the key to peyton staying healthy all theses years . MR.Saturday might be the best center in the league for  years. Do the Saints have anyone better the Clark? in that position. ?  And what about there underated Def. take a look hat they have done last few weeks, If Reggie Kardashian  drops the ball like he did last week  The Colts will win by 20

Since when has Sean peyton nad Drew Brees become  elite people in the NFL ,they have done nothing  yet.If they can beat the Colts (tall order) than they can start to be in the conversation Dont forget Saints fans  your not in the sacred Dome this week .

Like Ariz did with GB they left to much on the feild after there big win,I suspect Saints superbowl was last week ,The Vikings besides giving the game to them, (and still the Saints  almost lost that game ) they also took alot out of them .. Any other QB but Farve would of ran the 4 or 5 yards in OT instead of forcing a pass ,which  handed the Saints the game .

Go ask Brett Farve who's ass got beaten in that game. I was there and witnessed a full out assult on Farve and he got his ass handed to him and don't thin that didn't come into play late in the game when he refused to run for the 5 yards he needed and instead threw one of his patented Farve mistakes. SimonSezSo, yes I'am a SAINTS fan and a football fan. If you know anything about football, especially playoff football, one of the main stats that counts the most is TURNOVERS !! SAINTS 5-1 and missed 2 other oppertunities. If you think the SAINTS are gonna get there asses handed to them, then thats your opinion, I just hope after the game is played and the SAINTS win, that your man enough to come back and admit you were wrong, cause I'll be around either way.
