I got a question I’d be interested in hearing y’all’s thoughts on. Is Darnold the starting QB next year? Has he established that without any doubt? Curious what others think as on this for my fantasy football future
I wouldn't see why he wouldn't be. JJ Mcarthy would have to put out "Patrick Mahomes" type vibes in practice to supplant him.

The Vikings have an extremely healthy cap situation going into next season. I'm not sure who else is up for re-signing, but they can afford Darnold. And I'm sure Darnold wants to come back. He's played for, what, 3 teams before signing with the Vikings? This is where he's finally found success. The Vikings will probably approach it somewhat similarly to what the Chargers did with Brees and Rivers. Keep the insurance (especially with McCarthy, like Rivers, being on a rookie contract). Another year of Darnold success, and the Vikings could scope the marked out for a McCarthy trade. If Jesse Minter (Chargers DC) gets a head coaching gig, and where he signs on is to a team with a hole at QB, that's where McCarthy could head to.
All of this speculation, of course, but it's fun to speculate.

61% of the tickets and 69% of the money on the Vikings. The perception of this Vikings team has finally turned. Looks like it just took a good ass beating of the Packers, now people finally believe. I won't bet em this Sunday, ya'll zig and I will zag. But not necessarily betting the Lions either. Maybe I'll just watch this game, it's going to be good. It has to be. Maybe put 25 bucks on overtime or something for fun.
This might be the shortest line you get with the Lions all playoffs if they win. I imagine they will be bigger favorites as they get healthier on defense with some guys returning in a week or two. IMO, this will either be a game that goes down to the wire or the Lions run them out of the gym, even with a makeshift defense. Remember, as good as Darnold has been, this is, for all intents and purposes, a playoff game for him. Therefore, because I think the second scenario is just as likely as the first, I think it is a good spot to bet the Lions.

QB has never played in a game close to Sunday night contest. Always played with trash and was thought to be as well. Hell, Carolina let him walk. He's playing great, no doubt about it.
Lions have way more recent experience than the Vikings and it should show Sunday night, lay the 3 pts. and agree BB, they may not be this cheap again for some time if they get their defensive guys back.

The Vikings have run cover 2 man more than any other team in the nfl this year. As a matter of fact, at the highest rate in next gen stats database history.
Since 2020, Jared Goff is 30th in dropback success rate vs cover 2 man. Scrambling quarterbacks have success vs this defense as 5 defenders are manned up and don't have their eyes in the backfield. Jared Goff has only 1 scramble vs this coverage since 2020.
On the flip side, Sam Darnold has the 2nd most ypa on play action passes, 2nd best passer rating, and more td's than anyone.
Since week 15, the Lions have allowed 67.7% dropback success rate vs play action. 2nd highest in the league.
When it comes to more passing stuff, I've mentioned before how good Sam Darnold and Jared Goff are vs the blitz. #1 and #2 give or take, depending what metrics you're looking at. In their first matchup Brian Flores blitzed the Lions on 1st and 2nd down more than he ever did to any team. Goff torched them. Will he change this strategy? He certainly has to.
The Lions have increased their blitz rate since defenders have been getting hurt. They've generated pressure by sending 2 or more often. Will they change up this strategy vs Darnold? They certainly have to. Darnold has been near perfect when targeting slot receivers, and as mentioned 100 times, the best qb vs the blitz this year.
Looking at everything I could in this matchup, it all points me to the Vikings. It's just something about the resilience of the Lions. Some how, some way they always find a way to win.
It'll be the first time in nfl history that 2 teams with 13 wins or more will face off in the regular season.

I personally love the over in this one. Indoors on a cold Sunday. 2 great offenses. Banged up defenses. Both teams will be slinging the ball like practice.
