I think the weight of the world has been lifted off the Caps shoulders after finally beating Pittsburgh. I think they ride the momentum and bring home the Cup this year. Tampa is a great team but they played a young Devils team and an overrated Bruins team to get here. Let's see what they do against a real team. If they get to the finals there's no way they lose.

There's no way they will lose to Vegas, Jets or the Preds? Interesting.

At this point I wouldn't bet against them. They just beat the defending champs so to say they don't have a chance to win it all is ignorant. If they get by Tampa I can see them beating any team the west has to offer.

The Penguins would have gotten dismantled by TBL .. PIT clearly looked gassed from the past 2 Cup runs

I don't think they stand a chance against Tampa and even less of a chance against whoever comes out of the West, imo.

Tampa Bay wins > horrible city to represent NHL >bad marketing strategy> Possible tv ratings drop > lowers league revenue.
Caps win> all about winning one for Ovi > OVI jersey sales> creates marketing opportunities.
Golden Knights/Caps
Preds/Caps
....it’s what’s good for the league that will matter. Prop play for either to win is very attractive.
This is wrong. The focus of the league since Bettman took over has been very simple and obvious, success for Southern based teams....California...Florida...Texas....Carolina...Tennessee and now Nevada....al hockey hotbeds LOLOL...have seen massive success and many championships under his dictatorship and it remains the main focus...

A combined 15 stanley cup final appearances and 6 stanley cup championships from teams from those southern states named above since bettman took over in 1993 and MANY more to come, probably 3 of the 4 semi finalists this year will be southern...nevada...tennessee and florida...great hockey states lol....only Washington is there and I do agree they would love to give Ovechkin his day in the sun finally and they have made that very obvious with their calls and non calls in both of their first two series....
What a fukkin joke

Agree with States mentioned above...Although I think Tampa has already had an impressive hockey fan base no? top 10? ‘18 All star game sign it’s a good city to generate revenue. Other cities in Fla. need to catch up though...
But yeah, you’re right, who cares if the nations capital gets the Cup. Professional sports in DC has been brutal for 3 decades...Redskins>SB 1991, Bullets>Wizards> 0 , Nationals> 0, Capitals>0
Will championship games in DC generate revenue within the city? Most likely not. Nationally though? I think so..Hell, I just put in an order for an Ovechkin Jersey and I’m from Southern Cali.

So the Cup has to go to a traditional hockey town ? Yes lets fire up the 8-Tracks and watch replays of Gordie Howe and Bobby Orr. Nonsense, spread the beauty of pucks everywhere.
Also the revenue is just fine, the league is oozing money. Once again this isn't your fathers or grandfathers NHL. It's all about that TV revenue, attendance doesn't make a squat anymore. It's money and the number of possible eyes the game can go to.
Fair to the hardcore fans....no.....but they know those fans will stay no matter what. Kind of like Leaf fans.

To the guy who commented about the caps D the reason they beat Pittsburgh was because of the D, they shut down Crosby and malkin for basically the whole series.
And about the part where the NHL wants certain teams in the finals I don't buy that either...coming out of the full year lockout we had Carolina vs Edmonton and the year after Anaheim vs Ottawa. Hardly the premier matchups.

The Caps did not shut down Crosby .. the Penguins got nothing 5on5 from anyone not named Crosby or Guentzel

Only thing Tampa has over the pens is a better D core. CAPS shut down the entire roster of the pens outside of the top line, which the CAPS top line matched in production. Everyone on here saying CAPS are done are the same one's saying it against CBJ and then PITT. PITT is obvious because of history and their current teams talent in general. Pitt is one of the deepest teams down the middle. When you have bassard on your third line I think it speaks for itself. That should tell you with a healthy backstrom the CAPS are damn good down the middle as well. Not to mention CAPS beat the pens as we all know in a elimination game with No wilson (top line right wing) and no backstrom (2nd line center) also no burky! Good chance they have all three back for game 2 if not game 1 (except wilson 1 game left on suspension) I believe this CAPS team is just as deep as tampa and it will come down to goal-tending. My $ is on CAPS going the distance and bringing DC its first CUP!
