Minutes before the start of the gold medal game, I put up an offer at Matchbook on Team USA +208 risking $6,000. I waited a couple minutes and then decided to improve my offer. So I put up another offer at +206 for $6,000. But before I could cancel my first offer, BOTH of my offers were accepted for the full $12,000. Oops. I didn't want $12,000 on Team USA to win $24,840, but suddenly that's exactly what I had.
With the game about to face off, I logged into Pinnacle and reluctantly threw back $8,560 to win $4,000 on Team Canada -214. So now I had $8,000 risked on Team USA instead of $12,000.
I then watched the whole game, suffering when Canada scoreed their second period goals, rejoicing when Parise miraculously tied it with 24 seconds left, and ultimately taking the punch to the stomach courtesy of the great Sid the Kid.
Darn it. I lost eight grand. Oh well.
But hold on. More than an hour after the game ended, I logged into my Matchbook account and noticed that my balance was the same as it was before the game. I reviewed my play and saw I'd been credited with a refund. No way! Was I too inexperienced with betting on hockey to realize that my $12,000 bet was for regulation play only? Evidently, yes!
Great news, right? But then it got better. I logged into Pinnacle and saw that my bet on Team Canada -214 had been graded as a $4,000 winner.
Imagine what could have happened. Team USA could have scored that OT winner and I'd have been celebrating - for about an hour. And then.......

I can't think of anything more demoralizing than losing the respect of a chump with a bad attitude. Even this $12,000 I found on the ground today can't make up for it.
Well, actually, I guess it can.
