NHL Tuesday Preview and Discussion

DET @ OTT. Expected Goalies: Husso v. Sogaard.

A back-to-back game against each other for these teams. Giroux had a goal and three assists for the Ottawa Senators in a 6-2 win against the Red Wings yesterdat. The Senators, who are fifth in the NHL on the power play at 25.2 percent, finished 2-for-6 on the man-advantage. Red Wings coach said "That team will lose to nobody in the League if you give them six power plays." That's twice this year the Sens have scored 6 against Detroit. Sens are 7-3-0 O/U in their L10. Not sure if the stats back this up but in a b2b with 2 teams, if the first game goes over, doesn't it feel like the 2nd game is a low scoring close game?

FLA @ TB. Expected Goalies: Bobrovsky v. Vasilevskiy

TB leads the season series 2-1 but Florida slapped them last game 7-1 in Florida earlier this month. Vasi started that game and faced 49 shots. TB also coming off a rough 7-3 loss to the Pens the other night in Pittsburgh. Under is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings in Tampa Bay. Panthers are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings. Home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings. TB is in a 4-in-6 situation. Over is 4-1-1 in Lightning last 6 in the third game of a 3-in-4 days situation. Over is 4-1 in Lightning last 5 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 days situation. Over is 12-3-1 in Panthers last 16 overall. Over is 5-0 in Panthers last 5 Tuesday games. Barkov and Bennett are still out for Florida. The total opened up at 7. Bob has given up 3 goals or more in his last 4 starts. Florida is down a few guys as well. 

CBJ @ BUF. Expected Goalies: Korpisalo v. Luukkonen.

Sabres destroyed the BJs 9-4 back in December and that game was in Columbus. This is a 4-in-6 situation for both teams. CBJ is 3-7-0 O/U in their L10. Sabres have won 5 of their L6 including winning impressively against the Caps despite being down Tuch and Dahlin. Blue Jackets are 1-8 in their last 9 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 situation. Under is 6-1 in Blue Jackets last 7 overall. Under is 6-0 in Sabres last 6 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game. Over is 4-0 in Sabres last 4 games playing on 1 days rest. Over is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings. Favorite is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings. I know the Sabres have been hot but the odds seem a bit steep considering CBJ just took Minnesota to OT and beat Edmonton the game before that going against a Sabres team who isn't great at home.

LAK @ WPG. Expected Goalies: Copley v. Hellebuyck.

Kings still have a -1 goal differential. WPG beat the Kings 6-4 in LA back in October. WPG is 0-8-2 O/U in their L10. Is this finally the game where they go over? Total 6. Kings are in a 4-in-6 situation and have lost 3 of their L4. Over is 10-1-1 in Kings last 12 games playing on 1 days rest. Under is 5-0-1 in Jets last 6 following a loss of 3 or more goals. Jets are coming off a bad 4-0 loss to the Isles at home. Jets are 0-4 in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest. Jets have lost their last 3 scoring only 1 goal at most in 2 of the 3 losses. Under is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings. Kings are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings. Will the Jets show some life tonight?

NYI @ MINN. Expected Goalies: Sorokin v. MAF. 

Wild beat the Isles 3-1 back in January. Total opened up at 5.5 as you might expect. Despite some injuries the Isles have won 3 of their last 4. Sorokin has been a monster his last 3 games. MAF has had 2 good games after a small shaky patch. Wild are 2-8-0 O/U in their L10. Under is 9-1 in Islanders last 10 vs. Western Conference. Under is 3-0-1 in Islanders last 4 games playing on 1 days rest. Under is 8-0 in Wild last 8 vs. Eastern Conference. Wild are 5-0 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest. Wild are in a 4-in-6 situaiton. Under is 11-1 in Wild last 12 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 days situation. Road team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings. Favorite is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. 

PITT @ NASH. Expected Goalies: Jarry v. Saros.

This is a 4-in-6 situation for the Pens. Home team is 13-4 in the last 17 meetings. Favorite is 11-4 in the last 15 meetings. Over is 5-0 in Predators last 5 overall. Over is 6-0-1 in Predators last 7 games playing on 1 days rest. Under is 5-0 in Penguins last 5 vs. Central. Pitt is coming off a big 7-3 win against the Lightning. Are they going on a win streak after snapping their long losing streak against the Blues 2 games ago? Nashville has won 4 of its last 5 but has faced weaker opposition.

SEA @ STL. Expected Goalies: Jones v. Binnington. 

They've played 2 games in Seattle with each team taking one. Both teams have been skidding of late. Seattle is 3-6-0-1 in their L10. Seattle has lost 3 straight. STL has lost 5 straight with their last 2 games going to OT. After such a great start on the road, Kraken are 1-6 in their last 7 road games. Kraken are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. Western Conference. Under is 12-3-1 in Kraken last 16 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game. Under is 3-0-1 in Blues last 4 home games. Favorite is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings. Kraken are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings.

BOS @ CGY. Expected Goalies: Ullmark v. Vladar.

Bruins beat Flames 3-1 back in November in Boston. Bruins are in a 4-in-6 situation tonight and coming off a nice 3-2 win in Edmonton last night with Swayman in net. Bruins have won 7 straight. Under is 6-1 in Bruins last 7 vs. Western Conference. Bruins are 6-1 in their last 7 games playing on 0 days rest. Flames are 4-0 in their last 4 games following a loss of 3 or more goals. Over is 4-1 in Flames last 5 vs. Eastern Conference. Over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings in Calgary. Road team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings. Bruins are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Calgary. Can the Bruins continue their dominance or will the bi-polar Flames show up tonight at home? Ullmark has only given up 1 goal in each of his last 2 games. Vladar gave up 4 against VGK in his last outing.

CHI @ ARI. Expected Goalies: Stalok v. Vejmelka.

Blackhawks are 16-5-3 (66.7%) vs. the Arizona Coyotes over their last 24 games. Blackhawks have won both games against the Yotes this year with both taking place in Chicago. Hawks finally dropped one last night to the Ducks after winning 5 straight. Might this be the start of a losing streak for them (kind of like what happened to STL after they put together some wins and then traded pieces)? This is a 3-in-4 spot for Chicago. Over is 4-0-1 in Blackhawks last 5 road games. Under is 3-0-1 in Coyotes last 4 games playing on 1 days rest. Over is 5-0-1 in Coyotes last 6 vs. Western Conference. Under is 7-1 in Coyotes last 8 following a loss of 3 or more goals. Yotes just lost 2 straight home teams, getting blown out by Nashville 6-2 the other night. Over is 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings in Arizona. Favorite is 15-7 in the last 22 meetings. If Stalock is in, he last played on the 14th giving up 4 goals against Seattle. Vejmelka has had 2 rough outings giving up 6 and 5 goals. I look for him to bounce back and Arizona to take this one. 

MONT @ SJ. Expected Goalies: Allen v. Kahkonen. 

Sharks are 8-1 (88.9%) vs. the Canadiens over their last 9 games. Sharks beat Habs 4-0 in Montreal back in November. Line opened up at SJ -144 and jumped to -164.  SJ has lost 5 of their L6. Over is 6-0-1 in Canadiens last 7 games playing on 2 days rest. Canadiens are 4-0 in their last 4 games following a home loss of 3 or more goals. Over is 7-2 in Canadiens last 9 vs. a team with a losing record. Under is 4-0-1 in Sharks last 5 vs. Eastern Conference. Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings. Road team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings. Canadiens are 1-12 in the last 13 meetings in San Jose.

This Isles/Wild Under 5.5 is intriguing as when I capped it this am I got some numbers I baent seen in a long time..ie 3,4.5….the juice tho!!

Really like the over in StLoo , hoping Seattle can regain some of that road prowess they had earlier and the Blues are a mess!

The under in Minny just seems natural doesn't it? and then throw Sorokin in there for the Ilses and ya gotta like it even more. But the juice!!!

I normally do not gravitate toward totals but I'll include a few I like today with other plays so far:

Under in Red Wings/Sens game makes a lot of sense. If sens win, they create a 4-way tie at 64 points (assuming florida doesn't win) and only 3 out of the last Wildcard spot. OT candidate?

TB should knock the blocks off Florida. The only thing I don't like is the 4-in-6 spot for TB, an older team.

I kind of like the BJs to get some revenge on a soaring Sabres team who might not be as up for this game after 3 big wins. But I might be overthinking it and the over could be the better play.

It's either Winnipeg or nothing for me in this game. If they no-show again, I'd be surprised.

It's probably the under in the Minn/Isles game as obvious as that sounds. Low scoring affair which means either team could steal it in OT. 

Pitt/Nash should be a much closer line, in my opinion but I guess the Pens get the nod here.

Seattle could use a win but I like the over in this game more than anything.

Boston/Cgy game is interesting. How do you bet against Boston or Ullmark at this moment? Calgary is in the right spot but they are so untrustworthy. 

Yotes are in the right spot after 2 consecutive home losses and having lost to a Chicago team twice this year that looks a little different now. Think I love the Yotes tonight.

When a total is high for a game I like checking on the FD parlay option for some value.

TB in reg & Over 5.5 is +150 for that game. If it goes to OT it blows this up but I love the total here. The only concern is Vasi was lights out against the Wings and if he shuts the door again, Florida may only net a goal so you'd need TB to score 5 (entirely possible but they could also be content with shutting things down if they got a big lead early). 

 Love Tampa Bay to get it done at home 

Still in time out. Nice hit on Stars tt last night Omega. I do like my Flightless Fowl tonight for several reasons. First, veteran team that knows what needs to be done and can't screw around and second, just feel the atmosphere in the Preds locker room has to have taken a hit with all the selling and management basically "throwing" in the towel. I also like the Yotes tonight. Hawks on b2b and depleted.

 I was looking for a reason to like the Pens, that works for me. Just think they string together several wins. Could see Jarry heating up and this game going under.

Could definitley see that Tampa & over 5.5 Omega ,I'm coming up with close to 7's for that matchup and Tampa is chasing the Leafs, as well as being lights out at home. That's probably enough for me to put some on it.!

Gustavsson or MAF , not much difference there IMO.

Merzlikins in for CBJ.

Goals saved above expected, Merzlikins ranks 69th out of 69 goalies this season. Joonas Korpisalo is 17th. 

Merz has given up 3 goals exactly in his last 5 games! And a minimum of 3 goals in his last 9 games.

Craig Anderson in for the Sabres. Anderson coming off a 51 save performance against the Panthers on the 24th. Should that concern me? Maybe but Dahlin looks to be out again and eventually when you have Owen Power in your top D pairing, it catches up to you! 

I like the U7 in the CBJ-Buff game 

Seems like a trap game for BUF potentially. Beat the Caps on Sunday 6-3, with a tilt at BOS on Thurs.

But even with Duclair back in the lineup, the Panthers will still be undermanned against the Lightning as both Aleksander Barkov and Sam Bennett are expected to sit out with injuries. This will be the fifth straight game that Bennett has missed and the second for Barkov.

"When you have those two guys out of your offense, you probably will not have the puck as much in the offensive zone and you will have to battle harder in your own end," Panthers head coach Paul Maruice said. "We're just going to look different, and that's OK. It doesn't have to be as dynamic. We have to be considerably smarter with what we do with the puck.''
