I can personally speak for South Florida as I live in downtown Miami - it's wild down here but at the same time people have been cooped up for over a year and don't want to stay in anymore... people need to live and not be pinned down. We are all adults here, if someone feels like it's to risky for them to go to the supermarket it should be up to the individual to make that decision for themselves, rather than shutting everything down and scaring everyone consistently.
Clearly not the same category but with what is going on in the MLB with voter rights.. They pulled the Allstar game out over a law that basically states you need signature/id verification for your vote to count but the MLB says that is voter suppression.... It makes NO SENSE, next time you go to the will call at MLB can I not show ID and still get tickets? Can I order a beer without showing ID? The world we live in now is bizzare.

also read that in the states hospitals have a slight incentive to record a death as a covid death, which could skew numbers that they got paid more by insurance if it was a covid-related death. may have depended if the person went on the ventilator...read the article like 8-9 months ago now and also read that pneumonia deaths are down by a massive number, maybe someone on here has info on that
No evidence that doctors are committing widespread fraud by incorrectly claiming covid deaths. In writing death certificates, doctors follow guidelines from US center for disease control. They don't put things in that have nothing to do with the death. Covid deaths are far more likely to be under counted instead of being over counted. Many infected people who die are never tested. Decrease in flu deaths prove that mask wearing and social distancing work.

My friend is only 35 and he is from Texas and passed away last year cause of Covid. I also have a friend in Florida that passed cause of Covid also. They were both healthy and never smoked. This shit is real.
Bet the right way and never chase!

I agree with everything you said. To add to that as mentioned above are the side affects people are getting after having covid. Definitely not the same as a common flu like some seem to think.

So sorry to hear that Julie. It should be interesting watching the Jay's game in Texas today with 48,000 fans packed into the stadium. Their numbers are on the rise again with close to 50,000 deaths in just over a year.

So, if the Border is closed, HOW DOES THIS FRIGGING "BRAZILIAN" VARIANT GET INTO THE COUNTRY ? WTF ?
Thanks to our government they were allowing tons of flights from all over the world land here in Canada without even being screened. Just recently they now, need to prove a negative test before entering but from what I hear that is a complete shitttshow? There are people using fraudulent test results to try to get back into the country which is beyond comprehendable.

First of all...this is a terrible situation. I do not want to underscore that fact at all. I have the good fortune of having corresponded with both Polar Bear and huntman for a long period of time on Covers and I respect both of them and their points of views. huntman is not exaggerating anything. Those are his experiences and need to be respected. As is the same with Polar. Those are his experiences and they need to be respected equally. Now I am going to give you my experiences as a 53 year old who finds myself scratching my head a lot over the past year and saying " What the fukk is going on ?? "
If you feel that this virus is fake then I don't agree with you. This virus can kill you straight away and we know if you are elderly...overweight with pre-existing conditions you really elevate your risk.
The problem I have is that political leaders and media have weaponized this virus in an attempt to control the population. And what do I mean by that. I mean that they distort the truth and use the narrative to scare people because when a person is in fear they are able to be totally controlled.
A great trick of the media is to take a healthy 35 or 40 year old person with no known previous conditions who dies from COVID and use it to tell you you need to pay attention...follow the lockdown...keep masked up...don't eat at restaurants and wait " just a little while longer " for this to pass. The problem is they don't tell you that you are far more likely to be killed in your car as a 35 or 40 year old then to die from COVID. Those are facts. The chances of a healthy 35 or 40 year old dieng from COVID is something like 0.05 percent or something like that. But fear is a strong motivator and if they hammer it into you over and over again...you end up buying into it.
I know Canada is Socialist to some extent especially with their health care system but the U.S. is rapidly moving that way.
In a free society...the people need to weigh the risks of their behaviour and act accordingly. If I want to take the risk to go to a restaurant or ball game...that is my decision not the government's. They are using the virus as a weapon to take away everyone's freedom. And if you think it is going to go away...I have some news for you. You have undoubtably heard the term " New Normal ". That is the governments way of telling you to shut up and accept the fact that this is how it is going to be.
I can not go along with any type of regime that dictates thought on me and surpresses my right as a free citizen. It will destroy democracy in the long run and already has. IMO...this is only the beginning so get ready for a long and very uncomfortable ride.
As far as vaccines go...I think Trudeau made big mistakes. He was relying on the World economy to quickly develop and supply the vaccines to Canada. In opposite fashion...the U.S. mobilized companies to research and develop vaccines in record time. I believe that the U.S. approach was much smarter because we didn't wait for others to solve our problems.
I think U.S. has more cases and deaths because we are an greatly overweight nation full of obesity...which this virus takes advantage of. Even me myself...a former athlete...is probably classified as obese now because of the sh1tty food we consume.
Whatever you get out of this diatribe...maybe nothing...is to make your OWN risk based decisions and not let other people make them for you.
Godspeed everyone.

Birdman, where on EARTH are you getting your 3500 car death daily numbers from? You said 3500 but it's right around 100 deaths per day in US. COVID deaths per day on average in the US the past year are at 1400.
For those of you don't believe the COVID deaths are accurate, I used to be one of you. I did some research myself found raw data from previous years for TOTAL deaths (all causes). I compared 2020 to 2019, 2018, 2017. 2020 deaths were much higher and the difference pretty closely matched COVID deaths. It's possible that TOTAL deaths were being manipulated but that's much harder to do than just classify a real death with a different cause. Also the data was compiled from every state, so each state had to be in on it.
I also didn't think masks did much, but at work we're all "forced" to wear them. Someone died recently after catching COVID at work and infected some other people. The ones that were around him without masks for an extended period of time tested positive 5 days later, the ones who kept their masks on tested negative. Pretty clean split.
I'm not someone who's washing my hands every 10 minutes or walking around scared, but I was a skeptic who gradually started to believe this virus was legit and effects people differently. My grandmother was barely sick when she tested positive but my mother who is much healthier felt like crap for about a week.
I'm not really sure how much I trust that the asymptomatic positive cases are not mostly false positives though.

Thanks for your thoughts AJ much appreciated. They just implemented that we all wear eye protection at all times when within 6 feet of anyone but not just patients. That is for all the Lakeridge Health hospitals. I was hoping it was getting better but these variants are proving to be a lot more dangerous.

Ok so it's been 23 days since Vancouver has played a game and it was just announced a few minutes ago their game tomorrow against Edmonton has been cancelled as well, big surprise huh? Over 3 weeks later and this team is still a mess from what some call just a flu, yeah ok.
They might have to cancel their two games with the Leafs who are next up as well. There are some players saying no way can they play hockey now or in a week or maybe not in a month that is how drained they feel.
It will be interesting what the league is going to come up with? As of now its 19 games in 29 days if they even play the Leafs on Saturday Night?
Oh and Ontario broke a record today with over 4,700 cases.....hmmmm I wonder how many of those were just made up to scare people?
