I'm on the avs, and I don't know how in the hell that play was not offsides. Whether it's goalie interference, offsides, hand pass, or kicking the puck in the net, I'm on the opposite side of the ref most of the time. Jesus.

as someone who had avs 1st period I went from the thrill of victory to the agony of defeat to the thrill of victory to the agony of defeat again thinking it was offside. they explained it. delayed offsides was the call

So, they are saying Makar "didn't have CONTROL" of the puck. I have watched the video over and over. Makar brought the puck into the zone but it was not on his stick at the time in question, so that is determining control now? Go look at the video. He was about 5 feet outside of the blue line, actually took 2 strides with the puck (no it wasn't on his stick the entire time but he was controlling the puck). You can bring the puck down the ice but if it's not on your stick, you don't have control. Hmmmmm....the only thing I ask is consistency and regular season, that is offsides. League can do better.

I was on 1st period Avs as well as the game puckline, and that bs offsides call plus the empty netter with 21 seconds left saved my ass. Crazy shit.

First to say I am not terribly bright but all I want to know is how can Makar enter the Oil zone after he advanced the puck into it with one of his teammates already in there? Regardless if he had control once the puck enters the zone and one player is already in it you have to wait till he tags up to go in. I would have been happier 35 years ago being that they missed it but when you have replay and still fuck it up it is a mind blow.

Rule 630 | Offside
(a) Offside occurs when s of an attacking team precede the puck into the attacking zone. The position of the ’s skates and the position of the puck relative to the blue line are determining factors for an “offside” violation.
The position of the ’s stick shall not be considered in all instances deciding offside. A is considered “offside” when the does not have skate contact with any part of the Neutral Zone or the blue line when the puck crosses the determining edge of the blue line.
(Note) The blue line is always considered to be part of the zone in which the puck is in. Therefore, when the puck is entering the attacking zone, the “determining edge” of the blue line shall be the edge closest to the attacking goal. Therefore, the determination as to whether an “offside” has occurred will only take place at the moment the puck has completely crossed the determining edge into the attacking zone. A only needs to have skate contact with one skate with the blue line to be considered “onside.”
(b) A who is actually in control of the puck prior to entering the attacking zone and precedes the puck into the zone is not considered “offside.

My opinion:
It looks like obvious offsides, and why it was not called right away is baffling to me. The linesman has a clear shot of Nichushkin skating back to the blue line, and Makar moves puck in across blue line b4 Nichushkin is clear. I used to ref high school games when I was working part time and going for my Master's degree, and I wouldv'e called that play dead as Makar came in real time 99/100 times.
In today's world of super slo-mo, I just saw an angle where Nichushkin has a skate on the blue line at same time Makar has a skate on the blueline. Also in super slo-mo, makar's stick and puck appear to separate right at the edge of the attacking side of the blue line. Those technically meet the criteria in Section (a) of Rule 630.
So in the new world of super slo-mo, it can be justified that no offsides by a fraction of a second.
