Look for a few basic things:
- Matchups - it was clear to me very early in the piece that spin was going to be a HUGE factor in south africa which is against the trend of how pitches generally play in Sth Africa as they usually assist the fast bowlers. But if you think about all the matches that are being played on each of the pictches it was inevitable that they will take turn. So it's a matter of looking through which teams are better stocked in the spin department.
- Scheduling - because of the nature of the competition a lot of teams may find themselves having to play back to back matches (see Hyderabad last night, having to play the night game on Saturday and then back up and play the Sunday day game which is just plain absurd)
- Captaincy  - very underrated aspect of T20 IMO, captains play a huge role as decision making is probably even more important given the game goes so quickly. Fading Mumbai on this alone has been very profitable for me as Sachin has to be one of the worst going around in the competition even though he has one of the more talented teams. The way they continually changed their batting order was ridiculous.

That's just a few factors I consider.

However there is a lot of luck involved in betting T20 as we have seen over the past few weeks. It's just a matter of being on the right side of them.

That's why in game betting is extremely profitable in T20 cricket, the number of times there are "flip flops" in the price during a game is staggering.

Another rule I set myself is not to back a team that is less than $1.60. Long term you are not going to make money in T20 if you continue to back short priced favs because as you say Oz, the talent levels across the teams are actually quite level. It's just the way management uses that talent is the key. KKR are a blinding example of mismanagement, completely clueless team.

Looking past the obvious motivation factor in that Rajasthan needs to win to stay in the hunt for the semi-finals, KKR pretty much played the "grand final" IMO last game against Chennai when they finally won after so many near misses. Royals batting top of the order has been a problem all tournament but not only do they now play the weakest bowling lineup in the tournament, if you look at KKR it's basically McMullum, Hodge and a couple of cameos from Hussey that has propped up their batting. So I don't see a clear advantage for them there whereas other teams do when playing against Rajasthan.
