Have you seen him bat recently? His footwork looks slow and reflexes are on the decline. His once feared cross bat shots are now his downfall. Age has caught up to him and he can not hold a place as a batsman in this team any longer.

hello rod......do u agree with me?   india smakks australia......sri lanka gives england the boot...........  and sud afrikkans  ez......i like west indies over a crooked paki tm but will not touch it,......any iopinions? im looking to go xtra large and hard on india -150.......sud afrika look s very sfe at -300   ? ty  bigpoo

I think Ricky has been given close to the same amount of time Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor got. So, he has to step up now, and the next series.

If he doesn't, he should walk. However, captain or not, I think he has the potential to add a lot to this transforming side, who without him lack any semblance of mongrel or fight.

Everyone carries on about the Steve Smith incident - what do you want your captain to do? Smile and slap each other on the arse? Alan Border would have done the same fucking thing.

It's this soft mentality that has led us to where we now find ourselves IMO.

Still having a think about it Poo. India's middle order is a big concern along with the fact their bowling relied heavily on Khan to get early wickets.

The Daily Mail claims Ponting will resign if Australia lose to India in tomorrow's quarter-final in Ahmedabad, or when Australia's campaign to defend the World Cup ends.

When it is all said and done he has been Australia's best batsman in the modern era

He is extremely lucky to be getting picked in the one day side never mind the test side and you want him captain!!? LOL

Next Test Captain will most likely be Tim Paine. Ponting will remain captain for a long time still though

Australia going to play 2 keepers? haddin isn't going anywhere

so do you wait until ponting retires, which will be before haddin (or around the same time) and you make Paine captain after he has played 10 tests? You want to annoint the next test captain before he is proven at test level?

You're not rostos in disguise are you?

ponting is 36 years old, how long do you expect him around for? He has one test century since july 2009 (37 innings). You don't get better at 36
