So the Bullets have released Jermaine Beal from this contract. Surprising but at the same time not really a massive issue seeing how poor they have been at times throughout the season. Just hope this franchise doesn't fold again like it did before hand...
We have a game tomorrow night in the WNBL which is good because it extends the B'ball weekend..
So we have the "nothing to play for" Melbourne up against the Rangers who have this game followed by a trip to Perth to take on the Lynx. Boomers head to Bendigo where they will be hungry for a win to try and get back into the playoff spot. I don't usually like playing team/games where one team has no motivation at all but might make a play on the total.

Books had their original total at 158.5 or 159.5 and it went over slightly.
Next match-up, they books only adjusted their lines slightly and gave out 160.5 because of the last meeting. This game hit 171 and went over.
3rd meeting had a total of 168.5 and went horribly under, final score was 65-63. An ugly match in Cairns.
So now the 4th meeting between the two. Books drop their lines by a huge 7 points because of the 3rd meeting but you know what, I will play the OVER in this game as Cairns D on the road is giving up so many points this season. Their home court advantage is huge compared to their road record. NZ hitting their offensive stride as well to sit into 3rd spot now. I think we see a close game though with plenty of body contact, 3 point plays and the refs being very whistle happy.

Cairns Taipans @ NZ Breakers: Over 161.5
Ok so these 2 teams have met 3 times this season.

Would play the same if I could still get that number - up to 164 while I was busy sweating out a 'push' with the Flames in the WNBL game
Whats your thoughts on the Flames to win it Jive? I do like their chances but Fire always are so strong come playoff time with Suzy. I see the Flames kind of choking in the playoffs and same with Rangers. If Perth can somehow get a home final, I think they can do some damage. I know your not a fan of Perth but their starting 5 is decent and I expect them and all other starting 5's to play big mins come playoff time.

Nice write ups ADU, been following you a while. Appreciate your work . Any lean on a side at all?
Cheers Soursausage, nice to see someone appreciate write-ups these days mate because Covers doesn't really offer much. Just like to do write-ups so people that choose to follow can see why I am playing a certain play.. As for the game itself, the line is tricky. I would most likely take NZ though because Cairns are poor on the road and NZ is a tough place to win. But Cairns have been there before this season and upset NZ but I think NZ might get some revenge. Tough call, hence why I went with a totals plays tonight

Leilani Mitchell is a massive trump card for the Flames at PG as is Asia Taylor.. then you've got Snell capable of games like today, Wilson, Tupea, Hamson the list goes on.. they've got all the pieces for sure and importantly can match up with the size of Townsville & Dandenong..
They've got everyone healthy now too and they certainly look to have that hunger to bring it consistently that teams which go on and win championships just have.. so yeah, they're the favourites imo at this point in time with Dandenong next, then Townsville and Perth close behind..

Yeah I'm by no means not a Perth fan, if that makes sense, I think they're shallow in the bigs dept and on the bench but they've also got some serious weapons who can get hot at the O end .. I backed them pretty heavily a couple of weeks ago when they ripped Bendigo apart by 40 in what was just a weapons-grade A1 spot for them that night but also showed they have a sense of those types of occasions when they really need to stand up.. so wouldn't write them off although the change to 3-game series in the finals matches this season probably works against them imo with their lack of depth and options..
Dandenong are a sleeper, they're scary good when they want to be and hopefully for their sake they're switched on all finals series because they're a side that's capable of beating anyone and losing to anyone when they decide to switch off ..
Townsville is Townsville but it's all mental with them imo.. if they can somehow talk themselves into wanting it as much as they did the last two years they'll be right there..
Sydney
Dandenong
Perth
Townsville
Would be an epic finals series !

Awesome Jive.. I am just trying to weigh up a play before the finals start to get better odds.. As I understand, nothing as changed from last year's format?
Your points are great points, I forgot how much Sydney were depleted with injuries this season and now they have their core players + their bench back. Ebzery used to be the beauty queen of this team but never had the supporting cast. With her gone, the Flames have done very well with recruitment and I really hope Mitchell gets a starting gig in the WNBA this season or at least a decent bench spot at a team that recognises her potential.
Perth seem to be one of those teams that once their down by double digits, they just quit. Rangers haven't been impressive at all and I will look forward to watching their game this weekend vs Lynx to see how they go. You are absolutely right about Fire, it is a mental thing and they really need to shake off their road woes because previous seasons they were awesome on the road, this season not so much.
I think you could be right about Flames especially if they can somehow claim top spot over Rangers. They just need Dandy to lose vs Perth and this 1st spot because very interesting.

Not an option for me unfortunately Aus.. only one Aust based book where I'm not limited / banned
WOW, now thats impressive Jive...
Gotta ask you, your previous avatar was, im assuming you, doing a bodybuilder pose. Do you still compete now? Im a strongman but unfortunately age and niggling injuries and the competitors using "street supplements" which I refuse to use just made the competition unfair so I have decided to stop with the strongman and work more on bodybuilding now which I am really enjoying..

Wow, strongman? That's awesome! Did you compete?
Yeah that was / is me in the 'Bondi bronze', I've done a couple of competitions and yeah, I share you sentiments exactly regarding the games people play with drugs and then turning up to compete in natural shows..
Bodybuilding is a great thing to get into imo because if you know how to structure your training to manage fatigue ect it's something you can do injury free for life ..
I'm right into the science of training especially (diet / nutrition is actually a lot more straight forward imo) and there's only a very select few people out there who I follow for info - and they're all science based practitioners as opposed to 'bro scientists' ... if you want to dive into a discussion on this stuff, I'm up for it but clear your schedule !

Nice start to the weekend.. High scoring 1Q and 4Q gets the job done. Mitchell with a horiffic eye injury..
I did 3 competitions mate. I really enjoy doing it because its a lot of compound movements along with endurance such as the farmers walk. Probably my most fav event. Unfortunately, there aren't too many strongman gyms in Sydney so it was really hard to train for the events as well. I go to just a regular gym where I was trying to improvise some of the events. The looks I would get from some people when I was walking down the gym floor carrying heavy dumbbells to try and replicate the farmers walk was pretty funny..
So basically making the transition from strongman to bodybuilding I think is going to be very hard in regards to diet because as you know, strongman need to down so many calories and I love my food but don't get me wrong, what I ate was good clean food not high sugar, high GI foods. Good proteins, low GI carbs, good fats so it was struggle trying to eat around 6000 calories per day. The body just cannot do that for a long period of time.
Would love to hear your thoughts about nutrition and I listen and follow a few American guys such as Layne Norton because like you said, they are educated and not some guy at the gym teaching you bro science. Layne Norton is a powerlifting beast plus he also does natural bodybuilding so he is one guy I definitely follow.

Tomorrow's game is a tough on in the NBL.. Brisbane vs Sydney and Sydney is -1.5 right now in Brisbane. Bullets let Beal go early on his contract. Sydney falling apart at the wrong time of the year and the WNBL game puts up a huge mismatch with Adelaide vs Perth but maybe Perth is in a look-a-head spot to playing Dandenong on Sunday..

This line is ridiculous. Yes the Lynx thrashed this team in Perth around a month ago but Adelaide were on a B2B that game and don't have the depth to play B2B games especially with travel involved. Purely believe that the Lynx are in a bad spot tonight with the Rangers on deck on Sunday. I think Perth will get the win but to be -14.5 favs on the road to a team that has played well of late (apart from last game). The Rangers were only -6.5 last week in Adelaide and they are coming first, so why would the books give an extra 8 points to the Lynx when they are currently 3rd? I know the Lightning have nothing to play for but they have had nothing to play for since week 10 pretty much and they have won 2 out of their last 4 and their young talent I believe can keep this within the very high number.

Perth Lynx @ Adelaide Lightning: Lightning +14.5

Aus I think you'll find your background in strongman building up such a solid strength base in the big compound movements will serve you extremely well in bodybuilding.. The main difference in your approach to training for hypertrophy will be training with more overall volume and obviously less intensity (ie not as close to your 1 RM ) than you did previously.. Of course, throwing in more of those accessory type movements bodybuilders typically do will help increase training volume as well..
Nutrition wise you're actually in an awesome place having such a high calorie base.. Obviously 6000 cals isn't likely to get you looking like a bodybuilder but it's a fantastic place to start cutting back from.. So if you were maintaining say 120kg at 25% bodyfat on 6k cals, you could slowly bring that down to 4000 and be significantly leaner and still have a tonne of room to pull more calories from and get even leaner.. The problem a lot of people have, particularly small figure competitors on really low calories and a tonne of cardio is that they have nowhere to go when they hit fat loss sticking points..
Yeah, Layne Norton is a great guy to follow, he's been a real pioneer for natural bodybuilding, bringing new concepts like flexible dieting and higher frequency training into vogue over the last decade or so..
Do yourself a favour and read up / listen to all things Eric Helms.. He's another guy currently doing a PhD in strength and conditioning and while his views are very similar to Laynes, I find him just that little bit easier to follow given Layne tends to get a bit sidetracked by personal battles with trolls online ect.
Dr Mike Israetel is another guy I'm right into at the moment.. Read up on his stuff regarding periodising training around minimum effective volume / minimum adaptive volume & maximum recoverable volume - it's terrific stuff.. Basically it's all about how to structure training mesocycles to go from slightly under-training to short periods of over-reaching and then deloading, dropping fatigue and starting again ect ect ...

Jive, thank you so much for all the interesting info. I had a brief look at both Eric Helms and Mike Israetel. Will spend more time over the weekend reading their info.
Will add you as a friend on here so we can chat more about it..

Ok so once again, similar to last nights game but the other way this time + Newley missing for this game (possible return against NZ) and Beal now not playing for the Bullets.
Game 1 = 8th October. Total closed around 166.5
Newley and Beal had 17 points. The game hit just 150.
Game 2 = 30th October. Total dropped by the books to 164.5
Newley and Beal together scored 37 points.
Game hit 165.
Game 3 = 10th November. Total dropped to 162.5, game hit 159.
Beal and Newley combined scored 43.
Tonights total hovering around 162.5. Newley and Beal missing for this game is a massive loss for both teams as the NBL is unlike the NBA where a young guy from the NBA can step up for a missing player and score some points. The talent isn't there for most NBL sides especially the Bullets. Yes the Bullets put up 88 vs Melbourne on the back of Kickert scoring 24 and Craig 24 but I don't see both these guys scoring that much again. Will take the UNDER is a massive game for both teams in regards to their push for playoffs.
