CD Newsletter: Playoffs??? Edition

I can see Philly running game being the difference, doctor of my eyes.

Looks like the futures column will shake out in the plus $ range after the smoke clears. Can't complain. Only regret was adding the Bills hedge I guess. 

The SB matchup is going to be weird. As much as I want to see fireworks, I don't see it happening.

Philly should run, and run often. Especially to the edges away from those big DT's. But they are always in single back/spread just itching to pass. I wouldn't put too much on Hurts plate if I were the coach. If they do what they should they will control the clock.

Does KC want to go into the teeth of the Eagles secondary, and let their pass rush work? This is a game where KC should want to run often. Use multiple formations, TE's and a fullback. But it's Andy Reid, he probably can't wait to draw up gadgets and new passing plays.

Whatever these coaches choose to do, I can't see it going over 50, this # is insane. How is it not 47?

And chiefs have mahomes who can lead a TD drive at any time

Do you see both teams scoring 20? Just need another fg each to be pushing 50

Also is it indoor stadium? Makes fg easier

That 31 spot on the scoreboard wasn't because of the Eagles offensive execution imo. Every game has a different flow to it. We watched what happened, did you feel like at any time the Eagles were cutting up the Niners D yesterday?

They averaged 3.8 ypp. But, 3 SF turnovers, a 4th string qb for them, the Eagles winning t.o.p. 37:26 to 22:34, winning penalties 4 to 11 where 7 Eagles first downs were via penalty!

I just can't get it out of my mind that Jalen Hurts got benched during the National Championship by Saban. Then yesterday, I was screaming at the TV that Hurts should be benched. I wasn't joking, I think he was terrible yesterday. He was timid running the ball until late in the game, when SF was gassed and the game was out of reach. Missed 2 wide open wr's, maybe a couple others. And made the wrong read to handoff or keep at least 4 times. And that's the simplest thing to ask of a qb.

I did commend the Eagles in one area, and that was the persistence to run the ball, and run the playclock down on every snap. They only averaged 3.4 per carry, but did so 44 fuckin times. Nick Sirianni did what he had to in that kind of game, they controlled the game.

Now we know that the Eagles first td was fugazi. Maybe they only deserved 24 points on the scoreboard?

Just my thoughts. I'm not great on totals, so a 31-33 final wouldn't surprise me either.

I think they won in spite of Hurts.  Not to mention a lot of that game was handed to them by missed calls, a 4th string QB and a ridiculous amount of mental breakdown penalties by SF.   Honestly, this Super Bowl is gonna suck

 Suck as in KC wins handily? Or suck as in the defenses dictate a low scoring game? I'm leaning the later obviously.

Let's not forget that KC had injuries to Mecole Hardman and Kadarius Toney last night. Mahomes ankle is bothering him, but doesn't seem like a traditional high ankle sprain. And I don't know how the fuck Kelce was a game time decision, he looked fine. I gotta think both guys were shot up.

Bengals taking shot plays on 2nd & 3 and 3rd & 3 with 7 minutes left still killing me.  The 3rd down play ended up with the tipped INT but if they just focused on getting 1st downs it would have been a different story.

Replay of the 'do-over' play...   After respotting the ball the Ref said "Game clock and play clock will start on my signal".  It was his fuck up, but not caught for nearly 10 seconds once the play had already started, and it was not that loud for a whistle to not be heard.  Every player played the play out all the way to punt teams coming out.

 Any total over 47 you gotta ask yourself...do I see both teams getting 20....20 easily??? Barely 20???... thats usually first thing I do with anything over 46.5....if you say maybe 1 team only gets 17....well now u need 30 from the other team....

Regarding sf/eagles....I think you/someone in here said 49ers D was the best in league last 5 seasons

It makes sense that the eagles O didn't look amazing....they really weren't supposed to against that elite D....hurts did look shook the entire 1st half...the 9ers secondary gave him tough looks and they have an elite run D...you could tell the eagles initially wanted to pass but eventually resorted back to the run after the first 2 drives

Now they go up against a mediocre/good defense that has a strong DL

Keep eye on Dickerson injury for eagles and Willie gayjr injury for chiefs

Willie gayjr. Great tackler and eagles will run the ball

It a great game to cap. My initial gut is chiefs +2.0...even as a die-hard eagles fan

Andy Reid has crazy record with 2 weeks to prepare...but his playoff record and game management ain't great....

Mahomes has 2 more weeks to get even more mobile...kelce can rest his back

As in I find Philly boring and KC (as BigD mentioned) is reaching that annoying stage of being good.  And I'm still bitter from last night

Dickerson looked like he messed up his elbow pretty good. He's a pro bowler. If out or compromised, another reason to bet the under...

Fwiw, I think Jason Kelce will hold his own vs Chris Jones. Kelce has won vs nearly anyone he has lined up against all year.

I'm seeing every KC WR questionable as of now...

Truth.   Seems the entire NFC was just boring this year.  Except the Lions, we'll all be on them to win the SB next year!  Detroit is the official team of the CD Newsletter for 2023  

I was listening to the guys from VISN on the radio while driving home yesterday afternoon. One of them said "The current score of 31-7 is 100% the result of the 49ers gross incompetence. The Eagles have really done nothing to deserve such a gift."

Coaching stuff. The Cardinals will interview both of Cinci's coordinators for their head coaching vacancy this week. Kellen Moore to SD as OC (great hire IMO). DeMeco Ryans expected to get HC gig with the Texans (where black coaches go to die). And for the 50th year in a row Eric Bienemy will get 10 interviews and still be back in KC next year.

I think this will be a great game...

I can be a lions fan next year in the nfc. I'm just wondering if there will be any value in their spreads early on(kind of doubt it), as most will be privy to how good they can be.

I have one team in mind in the afc where we could get early value...and that's the Patriots. I think Bill Obrien will upgrade that offense. Going from Matt Patricia to him is a leap. And I can trust Belichick to draft well and have a solid squad. They'll cover for us in the first few weeks.

No one will trust or like Mac Jones, I'll trust the coaching and system.

 Penciling in NE as a "play on" team next year is sharp thinking and very representative of yourself and the CD Newsletter. The talking heads will babble on incessantly over every other team in the division and the Patriots will just be left alone as a carcass for buzzards to feast on.

and the last punt.  You can't let it be returnable.  Kick should have been to the sideline.   What a disaster finish.

I thought the same thing. Drill the punt to the sideline not right down the middle of the field. But did you see the blatant block in the back on KC just as the returner caught the ball? Egregious. Officiating was so bad last night. So very bad.

 About the officiating. 

It still baffles me that the nfl doesn't make the refs a full time gig. All these guys have either a full time job or are lawyers, business men, whatever. They are in fact part timers. You can go to zebras.com I believe and look up all their bios.

You'd think the league would pony up better $, health-care, profit sharing etc...

Then these guys could have one job, have job security, train and study in the off season...maybe then they'd be a better unit overall. Because too many times they look confused about what they're doing in the game.
